Doesn't matter if they're playing catch up to me. As long as I get the features. Now I don't have to switch to andriod

That right there is the killer feature. There is no reason for an iphone owner to switch to Android. Yes Apple took a few ques from Google, but then expanded on it. Its not like Google has ever copied Apple

There's nothing wrong with having a preference.

The problems start when people's preference completely overrides their objectivity and perceptions.

Two weeks ago the argument was whether other OS's had more features than iOS... and now the argument from the same people who denied iOS was a bit behind will be that "iOS has caught up now".

Some folks just don't like admitting that the horse they backed might not be in the best shape at the moment. Even so, its a poor excuse to twist reality

It's funny.

If the reverse were true, say the newest version of Android was just "catching up" to Apple, 90% of the people here would be yammering on about how Google can't come up with their own ideas, stealing from iOS, etc.

Personally (and as someone stated above), since I'm already ingrained in the iOS ecosystem, I thought today's update was "enough" to keep me there. I was hoping for more, but anything they didn't include wasn't really a dealbreaker anyway.

iOS 5 was indeed a catch up, and i said so myself since iOS 4 came out. Now without a doubt i can say that iOS > Android OS.
The next thing Apple will work on for iOS 6, is a revamped springboard and more customization.

They are still revising Honeycomb (3.x), but the features it added were resizable widgets, limited USB host for keyboards/mice/game controllers, enhanced Wifi profile settings.

They haven't disclosed what Ice-Cream will have (4.x?)... but Android has always offered all of the cloud stuff and cross-device messaging that apple is including.

The Air drop feature is something that Google doesn't currently offer.

nothing you posted is revolutionary. It's nice but it's not revolutionary.

Android? You mean the operating system that still has stability issues, viruses, and crashes every other app?

Apple may have some similar UI features, but at least I can trust that Apple's OS is stable.

On my rooted EVO 4G, I have NEVER once crashed or rebooted, this phone is smooth as hot butter. Not sure which Android phone you tried ?

Who cares about revolutionary or the wow factor. iOS has been out long enough not to be completely wowed anymore.

My take is ...... when it comes to iOS, Apple has proven to carefully implement it's features better than anyone else. Might be a longer wait but eventually they shut the critics up.

And before anyone throws the phrase fanboy at me. I'm not, just telling it like it is.

I didn't have those problems eithier when I had the EVO 4G. Maybe cause it was too busy being charged all the damn time. :p

Notification are cool and well integrated, though I was hoping for a more unique implementation. I'm far more excited for the sync features.

This release was more about maturing the system than adding lots of "wow". Frankly every release since 1.0 has done the same.

Well, honestly... most of the revolutionary stuff is already in there.

GMail push, Google maps and navigation and latitude, Voice control/dictation/translation, Google voice, google goggles, google earth & street view, google sky.

I know that iPhone fans like to talk about the app store, but Android has had some very powerful first party applications for a while now. All of the things I just mentioned are available without rooting your device.

With a good kernel, I am getting 24+ battery life on my EVO with heavy use. Just nerds a stable ROM installed to bring out the best of Android, and that is what I love about Android, the endless customization, and different ROM's to play around with.

But its cool that iOS has finally caught up to Android of 2009.

lol...wow 24+ with heavy use...on an Evo no less. If you're gonna lie outright at least make it more entertaining.

My iPhone 4 gets 6 months battery life with heavy usage thanks to the powers of the Yellow Sun

A phone isn't a psychiatrist.

I can easily make more battery time out of my Android phone than my iPhone 4, just need to do the right tweaks.
If you don't have the ability to tweak a smartphone to your usage, you probably should stay with iPhone forever. At least it works good enough out of the box

I would believe it on the note that Evo fanboy friend was getting similar battery life out of his after installing Cynogenmod 7 on it. I have no problems getting 40+ hours out of my G2. Even with hardcore usage I'm able to get a day out of my phone lol, and by hardcore I mean driving a few hours streaming internet radio with the navigation app open.

That said, iOS5 has a very pretty notification area but I also have to agree, practically everything Apple announced today has already been possible elsewhere and what's so significant about the messaging service? It's not as if it wasn't possible to use anything else before on either platform.

Besides, google navigation is pretty kickass :D

Don't believe that at all. I tried every trick in the book to keep my batt life up when I had the Evo. I would have to resort to the lowest setting on everything(brightness, signal, etc) to even come close to what your quoting.
And I refuse to compromise just to have good bat life. The EVO having garbage batt life is no secret either. If you Google and see what others have to do just to improve batt life ..... It's ridiculous. I don't have to worry about this at all on the IP4 nor did I worry with the 3GS.

Exactly .... That's over exaggerating at it's finest.

This is why apple needs the jailbreak community because it shows them what to put in the next iOS upgrade. Nothing reallly shocking other than imessage. And I'm glad they took a page out of googles book with the notifications

I've used devices from all the platforms and modded them beyond believe. NO DEVICE has churned out 24 hr battery life. Cyanogen or not. The closest one was BlackBerry and that was thanks to EDGE only use and the characteristics of OS 5.

Uh no lie, read this; There are guys getting a good 1-1/2 days of use, some two full days, I have never been that lucky. I do have a bigger battery in my phone, not stock.

Yea and they are still talking about turning mobile data off when on standby, underclocking, etc: This compromise is unacceptable for me.

I haven't tried the mod on that thread but I've tried others that claimed the same, and still batt life sucked.

Quote from that thread:

I agree with some other users on this thread. If you use your evo like it's supposed to be used (playing games, using high powered apps, and treating it like the entertainment powerhouse it is you won't have great battery life). Of course if I watch a few hours of sprint tv I won't have good battery life. I know there are things you can do, but I don't see how anyone can get more than 30 hours with moderate use.
Also you said to turn off enable always on mobile data. A lot of apps use this (especially radio apps like espn radio and A online radio) and you will notice them pausing and skipping a lot more with this turned off.

But apple continually knocks competitors and hi-lights how they innovate. This time they did not innovate but blatantly copied android.

And that is why everyone is being so hard on Apple right now. Apple is eating crow big time.

I can wirelessly sync music and bookmarks and documents to my Android device? Boy I had no idea that was possible...
