I don't see what's wrong with the new calendar. It's easier to just tap-and-hold to make a new event, then drag the handles to change its duration. I found that to be freakin' great. Yeah, it's ugly as sin, and not made of fake cow skin, but it's probably Apple's way of increasing the sales of calendar apps, which increases their profits!

Like everyone else, I like being able to look at the month and see what is going on instead of having to open each day. I'd like to put iOS7 on my iPad 4 but that has the only good calendar that I have left.

Not too happy with it either.

At least the 3rd party apps are still the same.

Hitting the magnifying glass for list view has worked great for me....and it will stay in that mode even after you exit the app and go back in.

trouble with using search to get list view up on ios7 calendar versus the ios6 list view is:

a) the + sign to add entries is gone while in that view - you need to drop back out of search to get the add entry button

b) if you quit the app (or turn off the phone) it defaults to one of the other views next time you restart the calendar

I too miss the preview at the bottom of the month! It was the only view I used and I thought I was going mad searching for it. By the comments, I'm taking it that it's no longer available. Hopefully it will be reintroduced.

Seeing the text below in monthly view was one of the reasons I went back to iphone from android. The new calendar is a real step back I think. Really re-considering that now.

Thank you for posting this. I thought I was the only nut job that would come back to iOS based on one function of the calendar app. While iOS 7 has some perks this really has me questioning my loyalty again. That and the fact that if an artist in the music app has 11 albums I have to scroll through all of them!!

I haven't had it close on me yet after I have left the app. If that is the last view I used, I always opens back up to that view for me.

I agree with you as well with the music app, ridiculous that I have to scroll that much to pick a song however I really don't think Android is any better in my opinion.

OP
Another vote for preview at the bottom of the screen, without this events are like a guessing game.

Blown away that they botched the calendar. Sometimes you make things better and sometimes you make things different. With calendar, they simply made it worse. It's like a team of 2 made calendar at 3am one night back in April and they never bothered to revisit it.

Yep, if I leave the app whilst on list view and go back to home screen to launch other apps then return to it later, it'll stay on list view when next on screen.

But if I physically quit the app (double click home button to bring up the task manager and slide calendar up to quit it) or turn the phone off, then its starting fresh and doesn't default to list view on next launch.

Whereas the iOS6 Calendar did.

I agree that the iOS 7 Calendar app is a step back in terms of the monthly view. Although iOS 6 was like this as well, I wish that the monthly view would show what types of events you have on each day (similar to how Fantastical will show you color-coded dots on each day in the monthly view). And also, why isn't there any natural language processing for the Calendar app?! It's been there in iCal/Calendar on Mac OS X since Lion if I remember correctly.

Couldn't agree more. I want to have the view of the full 30 days with stuff in each box without having to go to a new window to view the day schedule.

Major fail here.

Fantastical is the best calendar app bar none. It's a bit iOS6-y at the moment, but hopefully an iOS7 update is in the works.

It's also $5

Calendar is one of the things that still sucks with this OS.
I don't know why they can't get this one right.

Till they do, I guess I am stuck using Fantastical..

YES this calendar sucks!!!! That's the only thing so far I didn't like about iOS7. Like many of people I really liked to see monthly view with info for every day, not it's impossible!!! CalenMob is good calendar that will do it for you, and it sinks with iOS calendar so for now it looks like a work around....

I can't believe how they screwed up the calendar. Someone needs to be punched in the face for this! I used the crap out of the calendar on iOS6, but now it sucks. I miss the month bar slider thing at the bottom of the monthly view. The old calendar was also easier on my eyes. I think I will go back to pen and notebook. How hard would it be for them to give you the choice between the old style and the new crap. I really mean it. Someone should get punched in the face with a fistful of rusty nails for this!

Week Calendar ftw!

I vote for this one too! It has 6 different views. My favorites are Agenda - shows a whole week's appointments with time in 8 boxes (doubles up Sundays) and Mini Month - shows the entire month's appointments - text in each box. You can change the size of the font so you can read it more easily.

The calendar is the worst part of iOS 7. I miss the old calendar. What a terrible decision by Apple... Who in their right minds approved this?! Pure trash!

I really like OS7, and I think I'm pretty tolerant of minor Apple issues, but the iPad calendar was so unusable to my eyes that I rushed to the App Store to buy Readdle's Calendars 5. Much better visibility and overall function, and integrates Tasks nicely. But can't invite attendees with it.

Btw...month view on iPad does show the events in each day like iOS 6....I think it is all about scale....

Everything is done for a reason...and not simply to f you over...

I think it's good on the iPad but looks awful on the iPhone.

I preferred the previous versions where you could click on a day in month view and see the list of the days events below. :(
