that's only part of the free market.

Remember, for someone to buy the device, the seller has to agree to the price too. :) it's a two way street.

those of you who used ebay instant sale, are you going to include your charger? it didn't ask for it. It does ask for it if you try to sell an iphone.

I'm going to include the charger and USB cable. I mean what am I going to do with them, the new iPad will come with both and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have 64/3g.

I also have an iphone 4 with put service. And I share the sim between the two.

I was really hoping the combo I have would satisfy. But surprisingly, Apple has made iPad 2 very attractive...and killed the value of the older gen all in one stroke.

So, a couple of questions...

I am assuming I keep my sim from iPad 1. Can I just take the sim out of the new one to sell on the old one?

I JUST went the process of starting from scratch on this iPad after upgrading from 3.2 to 4.2. I think I know what my mistake was. The question how can I best ensure to go from old pad to new pad with minimal formatting and app and data install, etc. Or is it just going to be another start from scratch experience?

I sold my iPad several weeks ago for a price you wouldn't believe :)

Then I had quite an experience, I hardly miss it. But what the heck, it's just a convenience anyway. Certainly not a "must have" for me.

If your usage of the thing is so minor as to hardly miss it when gone, then certainly selling well in advance will net you more money on resale.

On the other hand, as someone who makes regular use of my ipad, going without it would be a pretty big inconvenience. I also tend not to buy stuff on launch day, waiting instead for the secondary market to flesh out. To me, the value of having my ipad in hand over several weeks far exceeds the difference in resale.

IMHO the absolute worst time to sell is right now. Everyone including Apple is dumping their ipad1 into the used market; supply in excess of demand driving prices down. You'd be selling into a buyers market. I could always be wrong, but I expect used ipad prices will rebound towards the end of the month depending on how quickly Apple's clearance and refurb stock sells out. They won't be what they were two or three months ago, but they also won't be where they are today.

It's actually kind of fun watching all the ruckus. The enhancements the ipad2 bring to the table are nice, but not a big factor for the things I do. I'm not currently intending to upgrade anytime soon and may well wait for the next rendition. It depends on what features iOS5 brings and how they're implemented on ipad1; as well as if some killer app (for me) comes out for ipad2 but not ipad1.

But for $49 more you can get a refurb from Apple WITH A ONE YEAR WARRANTY.
Just sayin'

Plus tax. Add in a case with that and you are getting up there. Mine is up for sale for $350 shipped with a case which is 15% less than buying a refurb and a case from Apple. Not a stretch for someone who wants one.

Plus, like I said, I saw one go for $425 yesterday. You can buy a new one for $400. A lot of people are stupid and there is no reason not to take advantage of that stupidity.

You're going to have an angry buyer if you don't. It's stuff like this that always gives me hesitation about ebay.

Unfortunately, that's exactly right. I knew that if I put it on the market before the announcements hit that I could still get 90-100% of the value because someone would pay it. Which, if I didn't have one at all, I would purchase a refurb for $349 plus tax. In all likelihood, or at least in many cases, they are in better condition than the used ones people buy from Craigslist. I know that if I sell it (an Apple product) on Craigslist- timed right- it's like renting a product until the next generation comes out while paying next to nothing, knowing that I'll get my money back out of it. For that, I enjoy praying on someone's lack of knowledge.

If you choose to sell it on eBay, you must be cognizant of the fees and possible penalties associated with it. Paypal can be a bear in trying to recoup lost monies but if you are persistent you will prevail. Also, NEVER-- repeat NEVER, NEVER, NEVER ship with anyone but UPS. Get delivery confirmation and require a signature. And when you are packing it up take a short video of the product working and then you packing it up. Then you email it to the customer with the tracking number. And if you haven't sold much on eBay, be aware that if you sell items that cost more than a preset amount (for new users), you will have to wait for the customer to receive the item before the money is released to you.

Sorry, I get passionate about selling things on eBay because I know of people that have been burned.

Don't let anyone tell you that your 16GB wifi is worth less than $300.

As an owner of one I think $300 should be exactly what its worth. New is $399 and a refirb is $349. Mine is in pristine condition with all original packaging and includes Apple Care.

Apple is like the Mini Cooper or Jeep of vehicle resale values. It's one of the top and holds value extremely well.

Usually my timing is perfect. Apple caught me off guard by selling just two weeks after the announcement. Usually they wait at least a month. Maybe we won't have to wait so long with the iPhone 5 either later this summer.

just sold a 16gig 3G for $425 on craigslist, figure $200 for a year of use was worth it, plan on getting 64 gig wifi only as soon as they come out.

I just want to add a bit of stats to this thread. I just paid $300 for a 16gb wifi & Apple case. IMO a good deal considering a few days ago to buy this stuff new would have cost $587 at my local BestBuy. Granted this one isnt new but looks new and still on warranty for a few months.

I've seen prices on Craigslist going back up. I should've taken advantage when I saw a few up for about $250 early yesterday. Already have a 32G 3g, but figured my younger sister could use one. Now I don't see one below $340 for a 16g wifi.

16GB wifi for $275. prices are droping...

I've decided that the 16GB Wifi isn't worth selling right now.

I'll use it for another 8 months and sell it then, probably will still fetch around $300.

I missed the chance to sell it early, now it is too late. The market is flooded with them.

Fact is that the original iPad is still capable of doing everything the new one can do, other than the lack of cameras(which seem to be pretty crappy anyway, and I can already do video calls on my phone and my laptop).

Today I sold a 64gb wifi model with a case for $500 on eBay. After all the stupid fees I got $425. Not the greatest price, but oh well. I'm looking forward to iPad 2 for it's speed, not the cameras. I dont' even Facetime on my iPhone, so I know I won't bother with the Facetime on the iPad2.

Wow I feel pretty good about selling it last week Saturday.

64GB WiFi for $590 on craigslist.

Have you gotten burned by USPS? I use them all the time with signature required and insurance. Never an issue. I ALWAYS tell the buyer I have photos of the packing job. You may need them for an insurance claim. I like your idea of a video with the product working and will use that in the future!

If you take it to a UPS store and declare what the item is inside, they print that out for you on the receipt. One more thing you can use "IF" they say there was no iPad in the box.

Has something changed on eBay?
