It's going to be a beast of a device and might be worth upgrading for.

If this is true, then crap, I need to get together the sales page for my current iPad!! This sounds too good to be true. I'd Apple really pulling out all the stops? A system like this could easily run OSX.

I wonder how much ram it will provide.

I will buy this iPad, if true.

Im quite glad that i sold my ipad about a month ago, before these huge rumors came out.

I'm seriously looking at getting this revision too.

With the claims of these high res screens makes me hope that they might introduce the higher res screens in the macbook pro line too :D

If Apple pulls this off, the next iPhone and iPad are going to be BEASTS. And a lot of Android OEMs are going to be very sad, sad, pandas.

I hope so too. I held off on the iPhone 4 and kept my 3GS. I like making huge jumps in hardware device performance. :D Like when I went from the iPhone "classic" to the 3GS... big difference.

i lol at the people who say they skipped gen one. just skip this one too while your at it. ill just get one every year if i think they put enough in it then sell the old one jaibroken.

On another note i wana see them put this tec to the mac.

I think there should also be a mini-dIsplayport in there somewhere too. I can see many people wanting to use this as an external display :d
Apple has always touted all kind of extra hardware using the dock connector (remember the blood sugar measurement device that plugged into the dock connector?).
If you run a Mac you can already use the iPad as an external display (albeit via slow WiFi).

"4 times as capable at video and grafic tasks"
Well how fast is that?
Like PSP/PS2/Wii or PS3?
Any one who knows?

What are they building? An iPad or a MBP tablet? Why a iPad needs such I high resolution screen is anybody's guess.

You should hold out for the iPad v3 then. It's gonna be WAAAYYYY better than the iPad v2.

I'll probably hold out for the v3, maybe even v4. Of course, I can't think of what I'd use an iPad for, other than an enormous remote for my TV. I love the Mobile Mouse app on my iPhone, but an iPad sized remote would be silly for me.

i'd like to see some dual-core games for this on a high-res screen, should be sweet:)

Can someone give me practical examples of what a dual core processor in a PHONE will accomplish? The iPad, I can somewhat understand, but not a phone.

Something tells me that either the entry level price will rise by $100, or that they are keeping the iPad 1 around for $499 (or maybe $449), similar to the iPhone 3GS.

Now just who said competition isnt good?

Still dont believe that iPad 2 will sport 2048x1536 resolution or whatever. Just seems major overkill.

Though iPhone definitely will be due a graphics chip update.

Think about it though... Apple has NEVER been a performance/spec leader.
UI, user-friendliness, cohesiveness, design.. sure. But never in raw specs.
Why would they start now if it wasnt for the competition to their largest revenue earner???

Regardless expect Samsung Galaxy S 2 will undoubtedly have this GPU as well (at a higher clock ala Hummingbird) by the time iPhone 5 ships... in July 2011.

But yeah Apple is definitely feeling the heat.

From a performance perspective iPad 2 will be WAAAYYYY better than the current one. Apple's bet on the iPad has paid off and now it's time to beef up the internals to give developers something to play with. Add the two cameras, SD slot, lighter weight & more and what you have is something that will make most current iPad owners jealous. The question is how much?;)

Interesting to say the least.

As to power don't sweat it guys, people have been reporting really outstanding power reductions for 32 & 22 nm nodes. In fact dependingon the node they could easily go for a quad core. This means a process shrink but that was going to happen anyway.

As to performance regressions that is always possible but the rumor is that Samsungs A9 based processor has about 4X the performance of the old chip in OpenGL. Given we are talking dual core or better here that won't be to bad. The big issue in my mind is RAM bandwidth and how they go about addressing that. It would really rock if the SoC had an onboard frame buffer or a very large cache.

In any event to all of those saying this isn't possible consider this, tech moves forward leaving Apple with little choice.

Ehm - the iPhone 4 retina display?!!?!

Why not the ipad V4......... probably worth waiting for.

Come on folks don't buy now, wait............ wait........... wait !

If these spec rumours are true, then why would anyone buy a mac book air. They're cannibalizing their own higher model sales.
