Don't forget that version one was a crap shoot and they could only GUESS at how the public would accept such a new type device or not. Well we all know what happened there and now Apple is ready to steamrole the competition! :D

True that.

The current iPad was just Apple trying to get people into the pool. Now thanks to the millions who did, v2 owners will have something really nice.

2 cores? With all the space available for the battery, they might just as well make it a quad-core :p

The article sound like it is saying that there will be 2 chip with each being dual core. So, it is pseudo quad core.

If Apple pulls this off, the next iPhone and iPad are going to be BEASTS. And a lot of Android OEMs are going to be very sad, sad, pandas.

I hear you...

A lot of the me-too copy cats will go back to the drawing board and delay their crapware by another year trying to catch up to iPad2. Then of course, iPad3 cometh... or even better, the next big thing from Apple cometh...

HP will bring a triple boot pad:

- webos
- android
- win7

That will be The standard for every one to copy, except for apple of course.

Geeks will have two pads: iPad for cool stuff and the other triple boot pad for work :)

Can all these rumors be true? That would be one heck of a device. To sum up:

1) CDMA and GSM "world" chip
2) Dual Core CPU
3) Dual Core GPU
4) Super high res
5) Two Cameras
6) SD Card
7) Vibrating Screen
8) Redesigned with no home button and a large speaker

Nothing said so far regarding ram and storage, but hey, while they are making this a dream machine to quash the competition before that competition even releases their "poser" tablets, let's throw in 1-2g of RAM and a 128gb drive shall we? Price: 1k for this "pro" model. Standard models have half the ram and only 1 core, and who knows what resolution, perhaps the ipad 1's resolution.

I don't think Apple will separate iPad models of the same generation by performance. Apple hasn't even announced how much RAM any iDevices have had, we only know because of the teardowns. So they aren't going to make the consumers wonder do I need 512MB or 1GB of RAM in my iPad?

It just doesn't go with the simplicity of the platform.

I wasn't aware of that triple boot HP pad coming. Interesting, well at least with android and win7.

I think that's just speculation on i.mac's part.

I would rather see a WebOs only tablet from HP. Web Os is far more interesting to me than Android.

A file system would be necessary to make iOS more enticing to some people.

Exactly, even though I already use iOS. How is there no way to save my game information separately from the rest of the backups? If the backups or phone get corrupt and you have to restore, you have to do everything all over from scratch. It's a bitch to start all over when you've beaten every level in Labryinth, Angry Birds, cut the rope and such.

Maybe gamecenter can be a way to do it?

links?

Me too, however I've been enjoying v1 for almost a year now as well. I hear v4 is going to be the bomb, I think you should wait for that. OTOH, v9 will be truly epic so perhaps it would make more sense to wait for that one? It has also been said that v11 will put all others in history to shame, that is until v12 arrives.

I think people should wait for v13. That way they have time to ogle the ones that are out and make up insane stories about what v13 might be.

I’m increasingly expecting the $499 iPad to remain largely unchanged, with the top model (or models) getting the new screen and graphics. If half these rumored specs are true, this thing is sounding expensive!

I’ll be saving up in case I’m right...

Can someone give me practical examples of what a dual core processor in a PHONE will accomplish? The iPad, I can somewhat understand, but not a phone.

I'd have to say it's more for bragging rights. Whether we can actually use all that power or not, it will be cool to say "my phone has a dual-core processor".
:)

Dual Core GPU?

Were there any whispers about dual-core GPU before this? If so - certainly not just me that missed it, looking at the other messages here...

I'm getting confused. Are we getting a dual core CPU (ARM-9) plus two 8-core GPUs or just one 8 or 16 core GPUs that can talk to both CPU cores at the same time?
