Still dont believe that iPad 2 will sport 2048x1536 resolution or whatever. Just seems major overkill.

Though iPhone definitely will be due a graphics chip update.

Think about it though... Apple has NEVER been a performance/spec leader.
UI, user-friendliness, cohesiveness, design.. sure. But never in raw specs.
Why would they start now if it wasnt for the competition to their largest revenue earner???

Regardless expect Samsung Galaxy S 2 will undoubtedly have this GPU as well (at a higher clock ala Hummingbird) by the time iPhone 5 ships... in July 2011.

But yeah Apple is definitely feeling the heat.

Feeling the heat!?!? I'd agree except the competition is so far behind.

I played with the samsung tablet at best buy - what a piece of junk.

If anything, this is a preemptive strike by apple.

This is going to be one nice iPad. I'm glad I waited for v2.
Me too, however I've been enjoying v1 for almost a year now as well. I hear v4 is going to be the bomb, I think you should wait for that. OTOH, v9 will be truly epic so perhaps it would make more sense to wait for that one? It has also been said that v11 will put all others in history to shame, that is until v12 arrives.

If these spec rumours are true, then why would anyone buy a mac book air. They're cannibalizing their own higher model sales.

Apple probably believes that iOS is the future and traditional operating systems will become more of a niche segment in the coming years. Does it really matter where you get your money from as long as you get it.

Something tells me that either the entry level price will rise by $100, or that they are keeping the iPad 1 around for $499 (or maybe $449), similar to the iPhone 3GS.

Okay by me!
I'll sell my iPad 1 to make up the diff for this baby!
I'm salivating if all this is true!:D

Can all these rumors be true? That would be one heck of a device. To sum up:

1) CDMA and GSM "world" chip
2) Dual Core CPU
3) Dual Core GPU
4) Super high res
5) Two Cameras
6) SD Card
7) Vibrating Screen
8) Redesigned with no home button and a large speaker

Nothing said so far regarding ram and storage, but hey, while they are making this a dream machine to quash the competition before that competition even releases their "poser" tablets, let's throw in 1-2g of RAM and a 128gb drive shall we? Price: 1k for this "pro" model. Standard models have half the ram and only 1 core, and who knows what resolution, perhaps the ipad 1's resolution.

*drool* Dual-Core iPhone
Can someone give me practical examples of what a dual core processor in a PHONE will accomplish? The iPad, I can somewhat understand, but not a phone.
It makes little difference since dual-core ARM is going to be the standard for high-end phones and tablets this year. This has already been confirmed by the products that were introduced at CES.

History shows v2 of an Apple product is usually significantly better than v1. As for v12 of the iPad, who knows maybe it'll be called the Apple-Microsoft iPad.:p:D

If it has the new SD card slot, who needs a 128 GB drive, you can just plug in a 2 TB SD card.

Make it come with 32GB internal and include the SDXC slot, and I will buy it. :)

Though I still do not know what I will use it for, I am still going to buy it and find a use for it. :D

Well considering they don't make 2 TB SD cards yet, that's impossible. And I think if the iPad 2 does have an SDXC card slot it won't be for storage but for putting pictures from your digital camera on the device.

Good point. I didn't realize they made SD cards that big. Sure would be nice to have a SD card slot then. Can get enough storage to put the entire itunes library on it. No more syncing. Who needs cloud servie with that kind of storage.

Don't forget that version one was a crap shoot and they could only GUESS at how the public would accept such a new type device or not. Well we all know what happened there and now Apple is ready to steamrole the competition! :D

i'd be so disappointed if they release a pro version and a regular version of ipad 2. that would make the pro version pretty close to a grand in price. F that.

but honestly i don't think that will happen. digitimes reported three different versions of the ipad 2 that were being built: a CDMA, GSM and wifi.

here's hoping for no "pro" models.

They don't make sd cards that big. SDXC supports specs up to 2TB's. I wouldn't expect to see 2TB SDXC cards for 5-10 years.

If Apple doesn't allow it JBing will make that card storage space.

Quite possible. Apple probably wants you to spend more money on their higher capacity iPads if you need more storage.

3D games?
Flash? (in non-iPhones)
True real-time speech recognition?
Playing HD videos on a TV?

This is an actual smartphone, not some dumb Nokia crap.

I understand that's possible. That's not what I claimed was impossible. I claimed that 2 TB SDXC cards don't exist at the moment so it would be impossible to buy one.

Perhaps, but the point remains you wouldn't need too much internal space since those sdxcs will add a heck of a lot of additional space as ever bigger cards are released.
