If Apple had done this way back in the day, made their products readily available in stores, maybe they would have won the PC wars. I certainly remember the days when you could only get an Apple product via mail order, and you could never play with them in a store. Anytime you can get max products into max hands, its a good thing.

Excellent Point - The iPhone 3Gs was the gateway drug to apple for me.

My diesel SUV will EAT your 95 MPG mini-mini. Hoooya. and when did this become the Auto blog?

:(

I think I got off on a tangent, 'cause to be honest if I had the means I'd probably own one too. Sorry for being a hypocrite.

It's just at 19 I'm limited as to what I can afford, so a scooter seemed like a good investment to save money while I go to school.

I don't mind Radio Shack for random overpriced cables in an emergency, but I would never buy anything else in there. The salespeople are just far too pushy and circle around you like vultures attracted to a rotting carcass.

iPad Supply

I stood in line last Friday morning at the Apple Store on the UWS of Manhattan. Arriving only around 8:45, maybe 150 in line. It was clear that about half the people intended to re-sell the iPad they received. I purchased a 16 gig Verizon. It's clear the reason why Apple kept to its Europe dates is to cut down on the re-sell. Since the iPad started in Europe (and elsewhere) the Ebay mark-up is down to $50 - $100 when it was as high as $300 and even higher. Some even sold this weekend at cost. With the re-sellers out of the way, new supplies arriving, etc it's not so crazy to start selling at Radio Shack. Again, in my neck of the world, I arrived at 8:45 AM and could purchase an iPad and it is clear that anyone who arrives at 7AM is guaranteed a choice of many the various models.

You are forgiven, iliketyla. Go forth and prosper. And scoot safe.

walmart

So Walmart is full of obese hillbillies?

I bought my iPad 2 at Walmart: 7 folks in line, 15 iPad 2's. Everyone was very nice. Im a 24yr old 6'2'', 190lb Systems engineer(with all my teeth)...and I shop there all the time. Dont hate...

I went to walmart on launch day at 4pm I was #5 in line and they had 6. Best Buy had 40 in line. I was out of there by 5:05 with my 64 gig wifi. I ordered one for my wife on line I got a 5 week date. They sent my cover right away, and took full payment from my debit card. Thats why they should send the ordered ones before they open to another chain.

Personally, why would anyone care WHERE it's sold as long as it's available. I'm glad it's available at these 500 locations -- the more, the merrier. If Apple's not there, the competition will be. Anyone saying this is "a low move" is ignorant.

Just called couple of radioshacks and 9/10 confirmed that they are in fact going to have them tomorrow. The stock is very limited though .. 1-3 pieces.

should I try my luck tomorrow? instead of waiting till April 26...

:) Thanks bud.

The closest apple store to my town (population 48k) is over a hour away - we have two radio shacks. How is this low? an elitist much? This is great! - Ipad 2's are the same price everywhere, except AAFES where its $10 cheaper and tax free. - Now many people can save their hard earned money as gas approaches $4 a gallon under this administration. Besides some people have radio shack credit cards -and earn rewards. They may prefer to buy from there.

Good point but with the gas argument, order online for free shipping :)

so what

apple supports products that come from anywhere so long as it is within warranty. So i don't care how grimy the store is, so long as its legal and the same price, I'll buy it from a grocery store next to the diet coke and raisins. I'll buy it from outback if they sell them. It's all the same. You could even buy them from a guy named dan on craigslist and they'll still support it; so...... awesome.

Great, another store that carries iPad 2 but won't ever have any in stock. LOL.

Unfortunately I think 80% of iPad 2 supply is going to scalpers and resellers, the moment Apple stores get them in stock they sell out and craigslist is then flooded with heavily marked up iPads. It's kind of ridiculous.

On a related note, isn't it a bit weird Apple hasn't announced any sales figures yet? They're usually quick to brag when devices hit a million sales in a short amount of time.

the more distribution points, the less the scalpers and resellers can cover.

The RadioShack in Owatonna MN now is supporting all the people who don't want to drive 50 miles to an Apple Store or Walmart.

As for the weirdness... yes... but again, when they announce a milestone like that... that gives analysts a tracking point to correllate their counts ("we tracked 30 stores in 6 metro areas... if they sold a million and we counted 1400... and now I'm counting 2800 that means they've sold 2 million...."), and those number cause stock fluctuations that are noise to them, and anti-noise ("Apple missed MY number.... They are going bankrupt next week... SELL SELL!") that is generated when people are predicting the health of the LARGEST TECH STOCK IN FRICKIN UNIVERSE. That's a lot of noise that Apple doesn't want to deal with.

If Apple can keep all the analysts less chatty until AAPL is good ready to release numbers when they are required (quarterly), then that's a good thing.

radio shack lol, do people still shop there?

for consumer devices like phones... yep.

It's no BBY, but comparitively it's doing pretty well most recently (RSH has a higher P/E and higher EV/R than BBY).

But they are no Apple store;-)

This is America, and that person DOES NOT NEED TO JUSTIFY HERSELF TO YOU! If that V10 Excursion ever gets in an accident with your "95+ MPG" car, it will illustrate one very good reason to drive an Excursion, and you will not survive. Even with a five star crash rating, these newer lighter cars are death traps when fitted against large SUVs, these crash ratings do not take into account the advantage created by additional weight. Also, if your considering CO2 as "pollution", are you aware of the fact that only 0.28% of all greenhouse gasses are from human activity ? Not 28%, but 0.28%, the rest is mainly water vapor. With all of the resources that the world is throwing at reducing CO2 emissions we could actually do something useful instead like end world hunger. What we are doing to reduce CO2 is kind of like pissing into the ocean to warm it up, maybe it makes you better but it will not work. Enjoy that "95MPG" golf cart you drive.

I guess if her main criteria for car choice is killing people in small cars then she has picked the right car.

Yep. Hear it all the time. "Protect my family", "Keep my family safe". In other words, kill the other party so that your offspring may live. The attitude needs to change. Yugo's for everyone.

They sent the cover right away, 5 weeks earley, it was on the same order, that way they could charge the card for the sale earley!

If you can't afford a $40 cover on your card for a few weeks you really shouldn't be trying to afford an iPad. Again, aapl.....doesn't......charge....the......card....until......the......specific......item...
.....ships. But nice try.

Thats why they filled 1/2 the order so they could process the cc order. Now I can sit and play with the cover untill 4/26, and I ordered it 3/18

They didn't. But if you didn't really order anything, you wouldn't know that.
