I like this concept myself, although I like the home button. Knowing Apple the home button may go away, especially with the additions to the multitouch gestures that were leaked in beta a few weeks ago.

Actually I just didnt bother to include the speakers / dock port / home button, I dont think Apple would ever simply ditch the home button, they would just have the option to use multitouch gestures. Doing otherwise would cause unwanted fragmentation and frustration for those who do use the home button.

It would have to be available immediately after announcement, otherwise they're shooting themselves in the foot and missing out on a month worth of iPad sales.

Not if the supply is running dry or if you cut the price on the current models.

Jeez you sure you haven't got an exaggerated sense of reality to actually what is possible? .. Dual core processor, more RAM, and camera's= "Nope not enough for me, I want this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, I want, I want, I want!
.... It's an iPad, not a spaceship!

For me, the most important thing will be how iOS is updated. The hardware specs are always going to get updated, its the name of the game. Software is really what drives things these days, and frankly both Android and iOS are doing great things, and it's looking like QNX and WebOS are as well. The mobile OS wars, imo, are bringing innovation to the OS arena that has been long lacking. I dunno about you guys, but I'm excited by all of it. lol

I have no opinion as to when the iPad 2 will be introduced, but I'm wondering why everything thinks there is going to be a huge sales bump around valentine's day and thus a potentially huge group of people that will be returning iPad 1's so as to get an iPad 2.

Who buys an iPad as a valentine's day gift? Maybe a few people, but I think this is just an advertising gimmick to keep sales from falling in February. I doubt if there will be a huge bump for the holiday. And, if there is a small bump, that doesn't necessarily mean that large numbers will be returning the device. Most people who enjoy using will want to continue to do so.

Having said that, I of course have no idea when an announcement will be made.

Haha, if someone's enough of a dope to buy an iPad as a Valentines gift, then they deserve to watch a new one be introduced on 15th of Feb. Oh look, it's a Tuesday!

"Buy her this expensive thing to show her how much you love her"

I'm not buying anything because of some stupid holiday made up by marketers.

Who wants to be with a woman that wants you to buy her **** to show her how much you love her?

Fingers crossed :)

I'll probably be buying one whatever spec it's got as I didn't get a first gen and I've played with an ipad1 enough to know I want one... But still hoping for as high a spec as possible, so the sooner they can put me out of my misery the better lol!

Like others have said... Credit card at the ready.... ;)

February.. March.. April.. ugh doesn't matter. Of course, the sooner the better as I've been waiting since last year for the second gen iPad (as I never really buy the 1st gen of any products).

Anyhow, I like these rumours, of course I hardly believe them, but its still exciting nevertheless

Really? For how much do you sold it?

I hope also for a soon release from the iPad 2, 15 - 17 Feb. or end of february...

I don't know, I want one, but if this update is just about more CPU speed, ram and cam's then I'll wait for next update, 2012 :\

I'll wait and see...

I am with you ... I have to order a new iPad, no matter if they update, minor update or major update, the rest of the family took control of mine. The only question is do I order one or two? :D

Can I pre-order the new one now? Don't care what's updated, I need additional iPads. The current iPad is great, the new update will be probably even better :)

enjoy and have fun - I will enjoy my iPad

Cannot agree more. Dont care what update I just need ipad 2

What's with the snarky commentary around here? Can people not use multiple platforms? I love my iPad and iPhone and iMac. I also have a work PC that I enjoy using, and will likely enjoy using a future Honeycomb tablet. And will likely enjoying using a future iOS device.

Competition = awesome :)

It comes down to that silly notion we lived with during numerous rounds of tech wars, there must be one winner for everyone to be compatible.

For physical formats like video tapes and discs then yes it applies, but only because the data needs a set format and transport means. As long as there is a way to move the data that many platforms understand then we can really have as many platforms as the market will support. Which is a lot more than one or two, now that everything lives within a common transport platform, the internet.

HOW IN THE WORLD are macrumors and all these apple fan sites not looking at APPLE'S OWN WEBSITE and putting 2 and 2 together that the ipad 2 WILL NOT be announced until at least march???

this has gotten pretty ridiculous at this point. every day a new article/rumor saying that ipad 2 will be released earlier and earlier and when those times come around and there's nothing to show for it, they just fall back on, "but april falls in line with their yearly refresh APPLE IS FAMOUSLY KNOWN FOR."

O RLY?

here's a new rumor for ya macrumors, THE IPAD 2 IS ALREADY OUT, BUT IT CAME OUT SECRETLY AND ONLY JEDI KNIGHTS KNOW ABOUT IT, HENCE THE DUDE AT THE DAILY ANNOUNCEMENT WEDNESDAY WITH ONE.

— here's what we know: the daily gave us 2 free weeks of the "subscription" to its app. so at least 2 weeks from wednesday when the Daily was announced is when we'll have iOS 4.3. it's not rocket science to figure that out, which points to Feb. 16 at the latest. makes sense, yes?

— apple is promoting the ipad 1 on its website for valentine's day, which is a week from monday. now why would any sensible company promote a product, then launch a brand new one days later? yes, i'm sure they'd love to get a ton of people in their stores with long "returns" lines. spectacular rumor there. are you still with me here?

— i'm not going to get really excited about anything ipad 2-related until these websites get their invites for an apple event. UNTIL THEN, everything is just bogus and these sites are probably loving the traffic to their articles of ********. very ethical. there's a line between rumors and just posting anything you hear without any type of checking at all, don't be ignorant.

right. and the verizon iphone won't be out until june of 2012, because thats when the contract expires and apple always launches in june, and there is no way apple would let the cdma iphone be announced at a verizon media event, because apple always announces things at their own media events.

furthermore, valentine's day is not really an expensive gift giving holiday, and if ipads are being gifted those people prolly won't care if a new one comes out later. Apple cannot doge every holiday! that would be ridiculous. they would never launch anything then.

also apple wants to announce their new ipad to combat android 3.0 which was just announced and will be launching soon

i'm not sure i'm following you here bud..

Thats why all of these other tablets fail. If its not made by a well known brand like Samsung, or Motorola or Dell, its crap and poorly made, and when it is, its either over priced or doesnt have the apps and developers to back it up.

Cant wait to see what Apple does.

Heres to a new design with a carbon fiber back and the beautiful design of the iPhone 4!!

ipad2iphone4dhybrid.png

Great job - I like the mock-up.

What's funny is I always thought Apple got it backwards with the designs of the iPhone and iPad. The iPhone 4's design lends itself to a tablet and the iPad (with its' curved back) seems better suited for a phone.

Can’t wait :D

But:
I don’t think that Apple will release the iPad 2 before February 9 ...
Maybe 17th ...

We will see

If they will release the iPad 2 on February 9, would they burn money and the customer would be scared away....

So let’s hope that Apple reads our comments and get under pressure (like gizmodo did last year)

March makes the most sense for a unified, iOS/iPad event. iOS is usually previewed in March (for release in June) and iPad debuted in April 2010. So March makes sense if they are aiming for an April launch ("available in two weeks" or whatever).

Assuming it's an hourlong event, they'll probably spend 5-10 minutes updating on iOS. iOS 4.3, App Store sales, etc. Then probably 25-30 minutes to preview iOS 5 and another 25 minutes or so to show off iPad 2.

this seems like the most logical/reasonable idea to me. it works perfect actually.

however, i'm curious if they even care to try and take some wind out of the Xoom/Honeycomb sails and have an event or announcement before or close to feb. 24 when the Xoom comes out in stores. my thought is they don't care and are cocky enough to take their time and wait until they feel comfortable announcing the ipad 2 and just do that in march for an april release.

of course i'd still love a late february announcement/march release. the sooner i can get my hands on this device the better!

What is there to do while waiting for the next iPad? I'm just sitting here.

I was seriously just feeling the same way. For real. I'm reading comments as if that will bring me any new information as to when I'll be getting my iPad 2. I really want my iPad 2... Huuuuuuurrrrryyyyyyy

I feel like I'm a kid waiting for Christmas morning!!!
