This makes no sense. Why would Apple not release the next gen iPad specs prior to the launch of the Motorola Xoom? Apple risks losing customers by not announcing the specs prior to the Feb. 17 availability of the Xoom.

I doubt thats many. Most people don´t care enough to know about it, and people that care enough to know also know that there is a new ipad comming soon.

i'm really curious to see if apple will do any ads tomorrow for the ipad 2 for the super bowl. obviously, millions will be watching, and they love the commercials, so i'm thinking maybe we'll see something tomorrow from them. who knows. honestly, i doubt it, but it'd be a very cool way to introduce it, or get some more hype going.

also, Best Buy currently has sales on the iPad 3G versions, at $30 off each one. so the 16 GB is $600, etc. and so on.

No offense, but you must be pretty new to Apple's world. When have they ever run commericial prior to their official announcements.

that's why i speculated. i never said they would, i even said i doubt they will..

did you even read the post?

What's with the snarky commentary around here? Can people not use multiple platforms? I love my iPad and iPhone and iMac. I also have a work PC that I enjoy using, and will likely enjoy using a future Honeycomb tablet. And will likely enjoying using a future iOS device.

Competition = awesome :)

Actually, they did this once back in 1984, but it's very unlikely they'd use a commercial today with the myriad of more cost effective methods they have on-hand to get the word out to the masses.

This is so reminiscent of the threads flying before the iPT4 was announced. We all speculated and held our breath and sometimes I think it's just part of the fun of getting a new upgrade on our beloved products!

Personally, I wasn't watching the calendar on this one - assumed I would wait another year to upgrade. But now my husband wants mine so I'll be picking up the iPad 2. So right along with most of you, I'm on the edge of my seat, checking every day to see if a keynote is scheduled.

End of February event, March event, which is it??? Apple insider has the same story and says it reports a March event with the iPad shipping later.

You guys wanna get things straight here?

A trusted Apple store employee has told me his entire store (one of the largest in the country) has to work on March 10th & 11th. Of course, they weren't told of the reason. My money is on March :)

Oh my! Hope it's true.

Can't wait. I usually skip Version 1's of Apple Products because Version 2's usually arrive cheaper, faster, better.

let's try to simmer down folks, it's all good...

There's absolutely zero incentive for Apple to put out an announcement in February when people can still return their Valentines day iPad's in that time frame which again, Apple is pushing.

I personally don't see Apple pre-announcing iPad 2 before it's ready to ship, which I believe won't be until sometime in April at the earliest. ... Sure, techies know that new hardware is coming, but not the general public. It would be stupid of Apple to halt the sales of a popular product by announcing the next generation.

I think your giving the public too much credit. I work for a large retailer that sells apple products among other high profile things and I could stand in front if them and tell them there device has a new version weeks away and an alarming percentage would still buy it if they were ready to get one that day. I know because one I've done it and my company has tracked sales after announcements and there isn't as big of a drop as you might think. The only thing that really stunts sales is lack of stock.

These are all reasonable points to take into consideration.

My bet is an announcement at the beginning of March, but whenever they do actually announce iPad2 I'd be very surprised if it wouldn't be ready to ship within a couple of week's time from the initial announcement, if not sooner.

I disagree with the general premise here. The iPad is the tablet gold standard at the moment. Unless you're anti-Apple then most likely you'd want to wait until iPad2 is ready to launch to get your hands on one of these gizmo's, regardless of any alternatives currently available. Also, Apple can take some of the air out of Motorola's tablet announcement by announcing the iPad2's launch date after the Xoom's initial jump into the arena. I'm not saying that Apple "will" or "won't" do this so much as I'm trying to point out the value of a potential strategy to announce iPad2 after some competitors announcements of their own tablet devices.

Either way of it, I suspect that if you're an Apple lover you're willing to wait for iPad2, and for everyone else it'll be more of a matter of which product they feel best fits their budget and overall user experience better before they decide on a device, regardless of how soon they are actually released from one another.

All the anticipation that's going into it is probably why everyone seems to be on edge here regarding the iPad2's official announcement. That's the effect on the user of crack at times :p

The Xoom will share the fate of the G Tab. Big production about sales and then admitting they sold small quantities to consumers.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be over the top. It was just too hard to resist. Like seeing that fast ball coming right at belt level.

The Galaxy tabs were DOA because they had a phone O/S and Google said that Android wasn't ready for a tab then. Now, there's Honeycomb and a more comparable tab in the Xoom. I want an iPad 2, but am getting a bit tired of waiting and may end up pulling the trigger on the Xoom once Best Buy gets it... as long as it lives up to the hype.

That, and there is a rumor that the Xoom will cost $700. A data base was leaked at a Best Buy.

At least Best Buy doesn't have restocking fee in case you want to return it for iPad 2. I think one of the biggest issue with upcoming android tablets is that there is no wifi only version. It seems they all want to start off with 3G version since they can make more profits from carrier subsidy. Most people prefer not to sign additional contracts especially if you already own a smartphone with hotspot functionality. Sure you can pay full price, but you pay more for 3G version whether you want it or not.

Thats why all of these other tablets fail. If its not made by a well known brand like Samsung, or Motorola or Dell, its crap and poorly made, and when it is, its either over priced or doesnt have the apps and developers to back it up.

Cant wait to see what Apple does.

Heres to a new design with a carbon fiber back and the beautiful design of the iPhone 4!!

The only way I am getting one is if it has some really cool new features and I see myself using it. If all they add is a dual core processor more RAM and some cameras then I don't see myself buying it.

Jeez you sure you haven't got an exaggerated sense of reality to actually what is possible? .. Dual core processor, more RAM, and camera's= "Nope not enough for me, I want this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, I want, I want, I want!
.... It's an iPad, not a spaceship!

It is SO OBVIOUS this is Liquidmetal

Follow these links for proof.

The first link shows the back of the new iPad 2 display. The second link is of the Omega watch made with a Liquidmetal bezel. Look at them both side by side. Do they look similar? That's because they ARE MADE OF THE SAME MATERIAL.

This isn't rocket science, but Liquidmetal is!

I like this concept myself, although I like the home button. Knowing Apple the home button may go away, especially with the additions to the multitouch gestures that were leaked in beta a few weeks ago.

So you all can choose to believe what you'd like. I know my friend isn't lying, but that doesn't mean that it's the iPad 2 launch. Maybe Sprint is getting the CDMA iphone too :) j/k. Maybe it's inventory, maybe it's something else, but given the title of the article, I know what I'm inclined to believe.
