You know... I just checked the resolution of my four year old MacBook Pro to compare it to the iPad and with the size difference it's about the same effective resolution. To me, it looks fine. Of course, the iPhone4 looks amazing... did the iPhone 4 just spoil us and we need "amazing" now to be happy?

I think you are right. Alot of these people refuse to buy the iPad unless it's 10" screen has almost the same resolution as an Apple Cinema Display. Reading these forums makes me feel ashamed for my 1680 X 1050 ACD.

I am looking forward to more RAM and a faster processor. The display is not such a big deal to me at this point. The current display is good enough. Its the performance I want to see improvement on. I also see that 64 GB did not give me much happiness. 32 GB would have been enough.

The day the iPad 2 is announced is the day my current 64 GB 3G model goes up for sale.

Some lucky Craigslist'er is getting a deal! :D

"but the resolution of the new iPad's display will be similar to the first iPad"

similar isn't very specific. it could be a little better right?

I'll be shocked if there's another tablet that comes out in 2011 with a res higher than 1280x960.

I think someone will use the 1600x1200 display that Hitachi announced 4 months ago. And that is only 6.6" in size. I expect more hi-res displays to be announced and used in 2011.

Nobody knew about the Retina Display before Apple announced it. They could certainly have one ready. I understand all the cost issues, but I doubt Apple will want to fall behind the competition on tablet resolution when they made so noise about the iPhone 4 Retina Display.

I was disappointed with the iPad resolution when I first saw it, even more after I got an iPhone 4.

Not surprised, it would be pretty expensive to get a 10" screen retina display, the resolution would be crazy high, especially considering Apple uses an IPS display.. I knew it wasn't possible in the beginning :p

It would be nice to see something like 1280x720 (720P).. because honestly for browsing website 1024x768 isn't the best choice, at least not in this day and age, there are a lot of websites that break the 1000 pixel width, which means a lot of the websites would not be able to be viewed correctly on an iPad.. I think 1200px width is the minimum..

Turn it sideways...ta da!

Thinner...lighter...I thought rev 1 was too heavy

Faster processor...I felt the processor on rev1 was sluggish

More memory...only 256mb was a deal breaker for me

Same display...no biggie

Front camera...should have been on rev 1

Glad I waited for iPad 2. :)

thats a great idea...enjoy...you will be experiencing the happiness and productivity I have for the past year owning two of them...(one stays home and one comes everywhere in my briefcase)

Sign me up if they can keep the same amazing battery life. I personally don't see the issue with the screen. It is as good as laptops and desktops, and I sit this on the same seat-back-tray as I did my laptop. Higher Res will be nice someday, when battery and processor specs are up to the task, but I don't want a tradeoff on the battery for screen res.

Really looking forward to comparing the new iPad to the Xoom which IMHO is the iPad killer with the best chance of success....

I was just checking out the Xoom for comparison to the rumors. Impressive hardware specs. But the projected price is $1000 or better. Not so sure that's going to kill the iPad.

Also... given there is so much talk of resolution here... the Xoom is 10.1 inches at 1280×800 resolution (150ppi) and the iPad 1.0 is 9.7 at 1024-by-768-pixel (132ppi). The iPhone4 is at 336ppi. The MBP is 110ppi.

So, the current iPad is not as good as the spec'd Xoom. But better than most laptops (most are about 100-130ppi). iPhone4 is off by itself.

I wish I didn't have to buy one but...

My iPad stayed behind in a NY taxicab in early January and I've been miserable without it ever since. Whatever they produce as the iPad2 is going to be mine on day 1 of the launch. I miss my iPad!

Yeaaa I agree. If this indeed is a controlled leak, this sort of ambiguity is what leads to the "one more thing" type of announcement. I think by them saying "similar" they mean it will be "higher quality" (closer to the glass, whatever else they can come up with) like the previous rumors said a week ago.

Really... no retina display. I better stick with the iPad mini, I mean the iPod touch. :)

Soon it will be the iPad 8 with a 55" retina display. You guys are kill'n me with the "how dare them" release a subpar device to your standards update.

All the negatives due to "No Retina" are seriously puzzling me. I mean, the display is equivalent to the best computer displays that Apple sells -- just about the ppi of the 11" MBA with the hi-resolution display.

iPad screeen is better than the 11" MBA in one sense - I think the MBA only has a TN display. All the Mac laptops are TN-based.

Yeah, the touch targets are always the same size, regardless of resolution on Android. And no, app developers have not had to develop icons with varying sizes for different handsets. Also, no aliasing ever occurs and apps on Android look as a great as on iOS.

How is it possible to not have aliasing and not have icons specific to different resolutions? Are they SVGs? That has a trade-off too, because it requires rendering to make it work.

Indeed. I swear some of these people must be looking at their iPads from ~7" away. B a c k A w a y F r o m T h e S c r e e n I t ' s N o t A P h o n e

The spacing is unnecessary.

People swore they used their phones at 18", which is implausible, I don't think anyone is doing 8" either. *But people seem to be using iPads at a similar or slightly farther distance than they use iPhones. The "complaints" weren't there because very few people knew what a higher density display looked like. People wouldn't put up with 100dpi text prints having gotten used to 200 or 300 dpi, but tolerate ~100ppi screens because they haven't seen better.

I wish people would remove "killer" from their tech vocabulary. More than one product can coexist in a market. That being said, nothing is going to "kill" the iPad in the next couple years anyway. We'll be lucky if we even see solid competition. Tech specs != worth.

One would assume "Find my iDevice" will be your new friend with iPad 2. ;)

A date, please.... A date. So tired of waiting, lame.

Just release it already so that I can either sell or give away my iPad 1 and buy it.:p

No Retina..... no big deal to me.

Thinner, lighter, and faster are all good things.

No better resolution. No thanks. I'll save my money for iPad 3. Looking at my iPhone 4 screen and then the current iPad, there's a huge difference in clarity.
They won't put 1080p on their "pro" laptops, why would this be any different?... doubt you'd even see it in ipad3,4,5.

Skipped the first gen, will definitely get this one

I also skipped the 1st gen. I felt it was too heavy to hold comfortably for long periods of time. I'm definitely getting this 2nd gen one. Got my cash ready. :)

1080p? Why do people want their computers to be TVs? I'd rather have 1600x1200 than 1920x1080.

Hit the gym, bro.;):p

But seriously, after the first couple of days, the weight of the iPad was unnoticeable. Lighter will still be good, but the current weight is just fine too.
