Black is the absence of color. White is a mixture of all the colors of the rainbow. That is basic physics.

You're half right. White LIGHT consists of all the colors of the rainbow, whereas black has none. Black PIGMENT also consists of all the colors of the rainbow, whereas white has none.

I dont get why some iPad 1 owners seem to enjoy making fun of those who are waiting for iPad 2? I think many of those who are waiting for gen2 are just excited at thought of owning their first iPad that comes with features they have been wishing for. Why the negativity? Is it jealousy?

jealousy of already owing an ipad?

Use it every day, dont see any reason to wait.

Mix up some red paint, blue paint, green paint, etc and tell me if it gets closer to white or to black... Or try crayons or different color Sharpies. :D

Look up additive colors vs subtractive colors. Your statement is true for additive but ignores subtractive colors.

so the new iPad 2 will have:

front camera
back camera
HDMI
att and verizon
high res screen
vibration motor
sd card slot
usb connector
no home button
new gestures
a5 dual core cpu
dual core GPU
better speaker
smaller becel
flat back
512 MB ram or more
128GB
price goes down by $100

did I miss anything? sounds like a compilation of all wishlists on this forum:rolleyes:

Yes, I wanted a pico projector in it:)

Because, being a radio device (WiFi & 3G & whatever else...hey, I'll start the 4G rumor right here), they have to notify the FCC with 30 or 90 days notice for regulatory review - which, being a public process, means they go with the full-on announcement ending with "...and it will be available in 3 months." Remember when the iPad was first announced? drove us crazy waiting for actual release. They can't release it until it's approved, and they can't submit it for approval until it's ready-to-ship.
I don't believe you have to submit a unit off the final production line for testing, just a unit that is essentially identical to the final production hardware (obviously you get in a lot of trouble if you try to pull a fast one and make substantive changes between certification and release). In addition, when you do submit for testing you have the option of requesting that the results NOT be made public until a specific release date.

720p is one of the formal definitions of

Thus, while Apple can squeak by by claiming 720p as HD, and while Apple fans can justify it by various arguments/rationale because whatever Apple says is THE best way for everyone, it sure would be nice for Apple to deliver a relatively future proof hardware standard of (IMO) 1080p 60fps hardware. Then, let all the rest (national bandwidth issues, content for the iTunes store, blah, blah, blah) catch up to that capability over time. Apple can't fully crush the "bag of hurt" if their alternative is capped out at a limited incarnation of 720p. The quality-minded people won't accept the tradeoff.

Apple is known to out do their competitors and attach things like "The First.." or "Revolutionary..." to their devices. if they don't go 1080p its possible that another manufacturer may beat them to it.

Ha, white iPad. This will be fun.

Can't wait to see when Apple will announce iPad 2 and preview iOS 5.

Goodbye 1gb RAM, 5mp with 720p vr. At the price of that screen, the only new thing in the next gen iPad will be a retina display.

I'd rather have 1gb RAM, dual core CPU and GPU, 8mp camera, 1080p vr, USB, SD Card slot, iMovie for iPad and a 3D no glasses display, than a retina display

I think most of the negativity is going the other way. Folks are publicly justifying to themselves why they are holding off for iPad 2 by telling iPad 1 owners that they made the wrong choice by being an early adopter. I'll bet most iPad-1 "early adopters" are likely to upgrade to iPad-2 anyway and thus, I can't see them being "jealous" of anything. If I choose to upgrade my iPad, my old one will still get tons of use by the family or I may just sell it.

I personally held off on buying an iPhone until the 3Gs came out, but did not need to justify it telling iPhone owners "I'm sure glad I waited and didn't buy the iPhone you bought." -- not at all. Instead I recognized that iPhone was fantastic, but I personally needed turn-by-turn GPS which did not appear until just before the iPhone 3Gs was released. i'm sure there are PLENTY of folks who are holding off on iPad for these kind of reasons (i.e.: iPad is missing one or two key features that they need to justify the purchase).

But regardless of those "missing features", the iPad-1 is still an awesome device. My brother (who is very aware of the timeline for iPad-2) decided he could not wait any longer. So he bought the MiFi/iPad combo from Verizon in December with the intent of using the MiFi for his laptop occasionally and likely selling the iPad and upgrading when the new one comes out. Odds are he will get most of his money back given the track record with Apple products holding their value.

You do know making a 3D no glasses display would require a 2048x768 (Horizontal res is doubled) and it would cost fortunes more than the supposedly Retina display. You can't just ask for such a ridiculous amount of features and not expect them to charge you a lot of money for it. Look at the new 3DS. A 3.5'' display and the device is gonna cost $300. Now take that to 9.7''.

That's not what the iPad is. (In my opinion, feel free to disagree)

I was just trying to say that the cost of a 9.7 inch retina display is so much, that Apple will have to sacrifice other features:

Rear facing camera from 5mp to 1.3mp.
720p to VGA. Instead of the retina display, they could put a 1080p vr.

i think a vibrating motor would be silly. not until its a full-fledged gaming platform should they consider that. think it might make competitors take them a little less seriously maybe.

Anyone else agree that this would be one sexy iPad design?

Imagine it in black.

I read the white iPhone wasn't produced as Apple could not perfect a glass white version.

1) Apple has increasingly insisted on using recyclable materials such as aluminum and mercury/arsenic free glass. This is the case with the black iPhone, both front and back are glass. Producing a glass white product would show more inconsistencies.

2) As aluminum has become a staple in Apple products, I'm certain the next iPad will continue the design.

I don't see this as being too terribly far fetched. It appears that the part cost (for Apple) would be only about $50 more than the original display. It also seems reasonable that Apple may have been able to improve some of their architecture to reduce cost elsewhere. Further, as NAND Flash prices are notably lower now than they were a year ago (as much as 50%, according to one site I found), seeing models with 32GB, 64GB and 128GB doesn't seem out of the ballpark, either.

In any event, I don't know. I'll almost certainly be happy with whatever Apple comes out with. (For those who would call me a fanboi, or an Apple apologist, I'll say this, of course there are things that would disappoint, but if Apple gets even halfway to where these rumors are pointing, the iPad 2 will be a fantastic machine. After all, the iPad is a fantastic machine, and all of these would simply be improvements on it.). I look forward to upgrading to the iPad 2 when it comes out. Thereby hangs my biggest want... release it sooner than later!

More importantly, higher density NAND chips are now available, making 128 GB iPads, 64 GB iphones possible.

Unless I missed those posts, all I read were people saying they were glad they skipped ipad1 and that they're looking forward to those cool new features. No one was criticising gen1 adopters. Its ipad1 owners that came in and started attacking these people and making defensive/sarcastic remarks.

You're half right. White LIGHT consists of all the colors of the rainbow, whereas black has none. Black PIGMENT also consists of all the colors of the rainbow, whereas white has none.

If we're going to be really anal and geeky about this we should also acknowledge that light is but a wavelength, and there are many frequencies of that wavelength that the human visual receptors cannot detect.

So saying white is "all" is not really incorrect, White is simple the presence of enough wavelength frequencies to fire all human visual receptors equally.

The concept of "colour" is not even real. It's a complete fabrication of the human brain. Different wavelengths of light that stimulate the rods and cone receptors in our eyes differently and the human brain just "makes stuff up" that to us is "colour" so that we can better understand the signals our eyes respond to. Other non-human life forms see things completely differently. You can actually damage part of the human brain that would make it impossible for anyone to even remember what a colour looked like even if they previously had 20/20 vision. The cognitive process of the human visual cortex is a rather bizarre thing.

Or, if you're Canadian/British/Anywhere not american, it's a colour :p

Well I am Canadian. French Canadian, in fact. Which means I write it couleur in my primary language. I'm totally outside of that debate, I can write both, accept both ways, but use color as it's shorter. I don't know whether to write grey or gray though... I usually pick one at random.

EDIT: Oh, and while I'm on it... living in a francophone environment, I learned almost all I know in english by watching TV in english (american) and reading websites/forums in english (american). So yeah, that's why I write color ;)

This. Who knows, maybe each person sees colors differently (red not being the same "hue" for everyone for example). Altough, in the absence of an external reference point, it is impossible to determine.

Well, it all depends how you read the all-caps "lol" at the end of the first post about it:
Boy, I'm glad I didn't buy 1st Gen! LOL!
I personally read it to be mocking. Otherwise, I'm not sure why you'd put an LOL there. A "whew" maybe? No, it's a BIG laugh out loud. I presumed it was at 1st gen owners myself, but not enough to act on. This guy acted on it:
Boy, I'm glad that I DID buy 1st Gen! Got more than my money's worth.
Laughing even harder.
Then this guy agreed with the first with a mocking tone again.
Same. Who buys a first gen anything from apple?
Then, this mostly level headed reply:
Man... I bought the first gen at launch, used it a lot and really enjoyed having it. Now I sold it (couple of weeks ago) for the same price I paid... the money is gonna be enough for buying the next one, so... what's the problem? :?

In the end, we don't know enough about each other to judge each other's decisions. We all have different priorities and life situations. No need to mock anyone. I will say that buying a gadget only for the purpose of saying "I've got one and you don't" is pathetic. As is trying to mock someone for buying something you didn't want even though they are more than pleased with the purchase.

I didn't buy a V1 iPad, I wanted and expected a front camera for webchat. If I could justify the costs as others have, I probably still would have gotten it. I couldn't justify it. Many users here are calling that "cheap". F-U. If you have so much money, please send me a V1 iPad, I will graciously accept it.

The iPad is amazing and I wish I had one with a camera in it. Hopefully with V2 I will. I'm not bashing V1 users, I'm bashing those who think people are "CHEAP" if they don't drop $500 to $800 on a device that does not have or do what they want.

I never understood this, while I'm DEFINITELY not very adept at picking up languages (I pick up math easily, languages, not so much, the wife is the complete opposite), I couldn't imagine picking up a language with a tv and some internet forums....

I say I never got it, because I knew many Germans while I stayed there that claimed the same thing, picked up all their English from music and movies....
