Read the comments from there, the ladt one i made. The thing that irks me is how horrible apple's software support is for the ipad and how they refuse to seperate it from smartphones.

No, I won't. But what is really sad is that if Apple didn't have the iPhone you would call this a tablet OS. What is a 'tablet' OS anyway. It is a mobile OS. iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad are all mobile devices, therefore they get similar OSs.

Only in the land of ridiculously unrealistic expectations does

Double CPU power.
9 times graphics power.
+2 cameras.
Thinner, lighter.

In one generations count as a slight upgrade.

I for one am excited. If I could, I would upgrade my MBP and Mac Pro every year also. But so far I have been able to get every iPhone, and I plan to keep the pattern going with every iPad.

I am impressed with the new version, though I feel that the first ones should have had cameras. Imagine the apps that can take advantage of the camera! Yaaay!

And I already have potential buyers of my iPad v1. Some are happy to pay for the old, so that reduces the price of the new one for you. Why complain? Get it or don't.

Man, people are never happy.

More ram (given)
Better cover

What did you expect?

More ram? Given where?

Better cover.. as opposed to the non-existent cover? I think the new cover looks like crap. Hardly Apple-looking.

I expected exactly what they delivered.. a slight bump. These are all things we knew would be the bare minimum they would put in an iPad2. This was all a given (other than the non-existent ram specs on their site).

It's typical Apple. They under-design each version in order to entice people for the next version. They could've easily made 1.0 thiner, with cameras. They chose not to so they could put it in v1.5 (ok ok.. 2.0). In 3.0 is where they'll put more ram (officially announced at that point), and a quasi-retina display. Yes, they could've put those things in this current model but hold off on purpose. The Apple way.. brilliant.

I'm not sure why people are blasting others for complaining about it. Yeah.. they'll either buy it or they won't, but they should be allowed to voice their opinions. Negative posts are no worse than positive ones.. just a different point of view. Suck it up, loyal fanpeoples. Not every one shares that enthusiasm for all Apple's announcements.

Yes, I'll be buying ipad 1.5 (2.0)

Maybe because people whine too god damn much about insignificant ****. The BOTTOM LINE is, sure, you do not have to like it. But don't go around crying like Apple ruined your life because they didn't give you the specs you wanted. It is a luxury device for gods sake. There are people dying and starving and everything else in the world and your biggest worry is that they didn't put enough RAM in your toy?

None of this is really directed at you as your post was not as extreme as some of the other haters... but you're just as much of a fanboy for completely coming to terms with Apple's business practices and yet still add that you will buy one. Just don't point fingers is all I am saying.

I think most ipad 1 owners will think twice before updgrading but those of us that waited this is a kick ass tablet.

...
Oh, and with the swing of an ax they virtually eliminated and rendered almost every Ipad accessory, useless, not one case will fit this model. That must make the accessory people totally crazy, now they have to make all new models, OMG what a PIA Apple is for these third party accessory folks!

Oh yeah, all businesses absolutely hate making money. Selling resdesigned cases to the masses all over again? What a PIA it is to have a business! get real, man...

See, that's the thing. It was dead obvious from the very first day that the iPhone came out that the OS was intended for a larger screen. iOS has always been cramped on the iPhone. It barely fits. I don't know how anything could be more clear than that iOS was designed for use on tablets from the get go.

iPad 2 is brilliant, and for those people like me who didn't bother with iPad 1 it's everything I need plus more. I think that was their target market here, since there are already so many more ipad users than all the other tablets combined. I mean really - who on earth wants to upgrade EVERY year? The reason I didn't buy iPad 1 was I knew iPad 2 would have a camera. And I'm sure iOS 5 will be next level stuff and blow the competition out of the water.

People are sold with iPad 1. iPad 2 brings in the next level who were waiting. iPad 3 will need to hold everyone and I bet it will.

All these people bitching that it isn't better, it's so funny. And all these people rabbiting on like a **** about how their Xoom or Galaxy is better - get a life! no one cares except you!

iPad 2 bring it on

I question there insistence on using use an aluminum back, which not only easily scratches but easily dents as mine has on more than one occasion. Really really dumb.

Second really dumb thing is designing a case that leaves this first dumb design decision exposed to scratching and denting. At least the first case protected the underside as well as the screen.

You complain about the case, but it seems you never used the first one either (since you have dropped it and got dents and such). So why are you complaining? Also, if it is not enough protection for you, I am sure there will be PLENTY of other options out there for you. But no, you go on "stickin' it" to Apple. They deserve the hate.

Also, I suppose since they have all these displays already and probably on order for years to come, they saw no reason to do one dam thing about the total inability if using this device outdoors in sunlight. Oh, gee we forgot about that? Big drawback for many people. The exact reason I keep a Sony reader on hand for the beach and outdoor reading.

Personally I NEVER use mine outdoors but I can see how it would be a problem for some. But seriously, how often is this? I mean, why would you bring an e-reader to the beach? In almost ANY situation I can think of that I would use something like an iPad, I would not be outdoors directly in the sunlight. If I am at the beach, I am enjoying the day and the sights, not burying my face in an eReader.

What else, oh, why no memory upgrade, what? we want to keep the price the same, what a load of BS? I would have loved to see a 128 version which would have come in at over a grand I know but many of us would have been interested in going for that.

OMG WHAT A LOAD OF BS! BBBBBBSSS!! SCRWE YOU AAPLE YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF BABY BS'ERS!

God, do you actually read back to yourself what you write? You sound like a whiney little baby. You might be disappointed about some of their decisions, understandably. But is it that serious to you?

I am sure there is a market for a high-end 128gb or more tablet. But I bet you the majority of iPad users do not need that much space nor have they come even close to using all the space they currently have. You're not the only one this affects, so stop acting like your opinion and needs are the norm.

Oh, and with the swing of an ax they virtually eliminated and rendered almost every Ipad accessory, useless, not one case will fit this model. That must make the accessory people totally crazy, now they have to make all new models, OMG what a PIA Apple is for these third party accessory folks!

Are you serious? Seriously??? Name me ONE tablet maker, cell phone maker, etc, that does not change the physical form of their products with each new iteration. Apple are not the only ones that do this and really, what does it matter? The case makers and such know this is part of the trade. They also would not be making ANYTHING if it were not for the iPads and phones and whatever else they accessorize. Lastly, you babycry about Apple so much that you are sticking up for case developers? Haha god, you haters leave no stone unturned.

To call the new additions 'a slight bump' is to be completely out of touch with reality. What would have been a drastic change which is still plausible? Too bad they didn't add everything your imagination could dream up; they do have to consider technical limitations and the market.

I'm not sure why people are blasting others for complaining about it.

Because your complaint and everyone else's amounts to "Apple released N, they should have released N+1, this is so disappointing"

Fairly predictable, but great to hear none the less:

The reviews are very clear:

Those that did not touch the iPad 2, are slamming the ipads spec sheet, calling it a 1.5, minor upgrade, and asking how this is going to hold up vs the Androidian Hoard.

Anyone that has a hands on review is talking about how excellent this thing performs and how different it feels.

Still looking now for a hands on that has anywhere near the same tone as the "armchair" analysts.

Even the ones that live blogged during the event quickly seems to take on a whole other tone after getting thier hands on it.

Went from yawn to wow pretty quick IYAM.

I think when you do get it, you will be singing a different tune.

Just check the half dozen or so hands on videos

The new Spec bumps are great and the design is very nice! But the OS for iPad 2 is preventing me to buy one day one. I was hoping for a small/medium revamp of the OS for iPad 2 and the talk about how stuff like multitasking will be better now with the dual core seems a bit off for me. iOS for iPad 2 won't even take benefit of the dual core, or at least not to the extent honeycomb tablets are.

Still liking the iPad 2 IPS screen which is definitely a big advantage.

Shame though that people still need to keep buying overpriced accessories just to example : transfer files from a camera or do the HDMI mirroring.

Also never been a fan of iTunes, which is another drawback for me :(

But LOVE the magnetic sensors & the cover. Hope i'll be seeing this in more tablets in the future.

Not believing the things that people say how iPad 2 feels alot different to iPad. The OS is the same, the size width and height is the same. Its just thinner and lighter. Apps that run on iPad runs on iPad 2 aswell. It's the same as a computer bought last year and this year. Both computers are running windows 7 but the other one is faster, but the previous one is still fast. The experience on the original iPad has always been buttering smooth.

I can't see many previous iPad upgrading to iPad 2 because the experience will be the same on both devices but first time buyers will probably find themself very satisfied :)

Man, if I hear Apple use the word "magical" just one more time, I'm gonna set my self on fire.

This keeps coming up but Xoom, Galaxy Tab, Archos and NookColor all have a microSD slot not the regular SD card slot. Thus they cannot transfer files from a camera either unless you use a camera with microSD card. At least the iPad has an accessory, I don't think those tablets even have that option.

Apple has tapped into the fundamental decadence of our society. We just want whatever is new, will mortgage our homes ( if we can ) or sell off our first born just to get that quarterly FIX because we are not addicted to productivity, functionality or even that much to usability . We have to feed the addiction and the only cure is an incremental upgrade. Apple knows this and so do we all, but we cover by proclaiming every upgrade is a significant enough upgrade to warrant tossing last years toy in exchange for a shinny new one. It hearkens to the immaturity of the latest generation of Mac users who use their Smart phones, not to nail down jobs or positively change the world, but rather to play games!
As a diehard mid-to late stream adopter, I muse over these incremental upgrades decade after decade.
Apple are clever, they send out the incremental and make as much or more money than if they waited to release the REAL upgrades.
Enjoy your fixes:D

But they do thisnfor their other products like macbooks annually as well. They just dont hold press events and dvertise those fscts or have people come out of their closets to upgrade.

I have to come reject the notion that this is just a slight upgrade.

What would the reaction be if Apple iterated a Macbook Pro that included a processor that was twice as fast, graphics that were 9 times as fast, made it 33% thinner, kept every single feature and maintained battery life and price?

I imagine that most people would think it was a remarkable upgrade.

The physical results would be more dramatic since notebooks are bigger than tablets, and every forthcoming tablet appears to have a dual core processor, but I don't think that should diminish what Apple just released.

It's perceived as a minor upgrade for two reasons:

1) a lot of people don't care about cameras OR facetime

2) the speed of the 1st gen (for the vast majority of people) is pretty good

Basically for around 90% of average users, the 1st gen will suffice.

If the iPad 2 gets some exclusive, mind blowing apps that won't work on the first gen, or facetime calling becomes the norm between now and iPad 3, then I think it would be worth the upgrade.

Personally though, I think by the time those things occur, it will be close enough to the release of iPad 3.
