Actually they are. In fact March is the official month when winter ends.

And winter doesn't officially start until December 21st.

It's rubbish though because winter has already started here a good month early. :)

The "official" season start dates are the same as the equinox and solstice dates based on the length of the days. Most people relate with the meteorological winter of December, January and February in the Northern Hemisphere because these are the 3 coldest months.

Yup. From the updated document (12 Jan 2010):
(search for: TECHNICAL ANNEX TO MOU REGARDING THE HARMONISATION OF A CHARGING CAPABILITY FOR MOBILE PHONES), it's the first PDF returned by Google.

1 - "The cable assembly shall terminate in a Micro-B plug. The plug shall meet the USB- IF Connector Test Requirements (http://www.usb.org/developers/compliance/connectors/), shall be compliant to the Micro-USB Cables and Connectors Specification, Rev 1.01 (Micro-USB 1.01), and shall be rated to meet all electrical specifications."

2 - "An EPS provided with a detachable cable shall be equipped with a USB Standard-A receptacle. Standard detachable cable assembly, supplied for use with the EPS, shall have Standard-A and Micro-B plugs and meet the USB-IF Cable Assembly Test Requirements for Compliant Usage of Connectors and Cables in Micro-USB 1.01. (http://www.usb.org/developers/compliance/cable/).”"

3 - "Above requirement also applies to detachable cables used as adaptor i.e. where the Micro-B is replaced by a proprietary plug"

(numbers and paragraph breaks added by me)

Paragraph 1 is the part that everyone seems to know about. If your power supply has a permanently attached cable, (e.g., Nokia / Sony barrel connectors, Motorola blade connectors, etc.), you need to switch it to a Micro-B plug.

Paragraph 2 is where it gets interesting. If the power supply has a removable cable (like the Apple chargers), it needs to connect the cable via a USB-A (the flat rectangular "host" socket you see on computers) (like the Apple chargers already do)

And Paragraph 3 is where it's codified that Apple is ALREADY in compliance. If you have a proprietary connector (i.e., the dock connector), you only need to have the "head" end of the cable terminate in a USB-A plug (again, like Apple already does).

Not a single thing needs to change. At all.

Even if this was, in any way, a binding document / agreement. Which it isn't.

And even if the iPad was included in the agreement. Which it isn't. :)

Can we PLEASE put the "USB is coming because of the EU" comments to rest?

By the way, even if it was coming, it's the DEVICE end of the cable that it would be getting. USB is asymmetrical. You'd never be able to connect anything TO the iPad. Only connect the iPad TO something.

b

Correct. Unfortunately it's a rule of MacRumors that the more accurate, pivotal, important, well written and lengthy a post is, the less likely it is that it will have any impact on the posts that follow it.

Eh I dont need a camera, but hey if I'm going to shell out the same $499 I might as well wait 10 or so weeks for the latest and greatest.

Well I actually want the camera as I love FaceTime on my mac!! But it'll be more than a 10 week wait.... :(

Apple please release the iPad 2 straight after christmas so I can tell the people who bought it for christmas nananananana....nah... I just want it asap.

Quite so. The so-called 'officials' know nothing about such matters.

Help!!!!

I got an ipad for christmas, but because it's for christmas I can't open it until the 25th. So when I heard that a new one is coming out by the end of February I think im going to tell my parents to return it and just wait. But before I do I came here to ask you MORE INTELLIGENT APPLE FOLK if you guys can honestly say there is truth behind this rumor, that we will have the ipad 2 in the next "100" days?!?!

How many times do I have to repeat myself: you will not see iPad 2 any time before April 1st.

so tell me mac nerds, if this IS true will we see one of those big apple conventions things they do for every new product they have?!!? Of so WHEN WHEN WHEN!!!!

Soooo. I shouldn't buy myself an iPad this Christmas?

Absolutely not. History proves Apples 2nd generation products are much better than the originals. A few months will go quickly & you'll be so glad you waited.

I'm so happy I just sold my first gen iPad. Once the launch draws near, resale will dip

If im not wrong and apple keep to there original plans like they have for years with all there products it should be released sometime in May / June am i not correct.
