Like I said, January, February, March ain't gonna happen!!!!

Apple release their products in accordance with American weather conditions. None of their product releases ever fall on winter. Ever.

Simple.

Hey man,

february and march aren't in winter.

One thing to factor in is that Corporate purchases ramp up Mid March to Mid May. Personally, Given the fact that current iPads are being sold in bulk to several corporations, If you want to get the corporate sales you want general availability by 4/1, and announcement 6 weeks prior.

The education market also heats up early in the calendar year. Budgets followed by purchases.

However, I can't remember Apple holding themselves to a 12 month release schedule until they got into the phone business, so I don't think one can project iPad releases on the iPhone schedule. One of the reasons Apple pulled out of the January Mac convention is that they wanted to set their own schedule for announcing, and subsequent releasing new products.

The iPhone 4 did exceedingly well considering that all the Android-based phones as well as the Palm KNEW when Apple was going to release and really made hay during the months leading up to iPhone 4 release.

If the competition was less certain of when Apple was going to release a product their whole marketing/production/release plans would become less predicated on a fixed date of Apple's target product.

This thread is full of all sorts of win. We basically have 2 groups. Those arguing about what is considered a winter month (which is actually just 1 person arguing with the masses) and those debating whether or not the iPad should be considered a phone (thus dictating that it gets a mini-USB in the EU).

I really wonder why Apple sticks with the iPod dock connector on the iPad.

IMHO the MagSafe connector they have on the MacBooks would be much more convenient, secure and durable for using the iPad in typical home situations.

Data syncing could be done via WiFi (or even 3G over the air) in a fast and comfortable way.

Headphones are usually connected via the standard 3,5mm connector or Bluetooth and an iPad does not fit into a car dock either.

IMHO the only "advantage" of the dock connector in the iPad is additional profit for Apple when selling cables etc.

Does all this really matter?

It's safe to assume Microsoft is not sitting still in this area and I'm sure we'll see a significant update from them that will make the iPad 2.0 and any Android device from 2011 look like a joke.

Too bad for Microsoft it will be in 2015! LOL! :p

Yeah, did MS announce their 2015 device in January 2010? It will be B/W only and require you to read and use upside down. An adapter on the back will allow it to run on belly button lint soaked in profuse body sweat.

so if it ships in February.... that means there will be a media event in January?
also apple will be announcing verizon iphone around january-February....
Could these announcements be in the same media event? will there be a verizon ipad 2?

No, read the Digitimes article instead of the MacRumors post(because the entire post is just a he said she said blunder). The article states that iPad units will start being shipped from the factory in February but iPad itself won't launch until April.

No surprises here. Apple update their products around the same time every year, and the iPad was announced February this year.

OMG, I'm talking about major releases that generate lines of hundreds of people. Hello!

They are solely iPhone and iPad! Duh!

No, you aren't. You said:

This is blatantly untrue. You can spin all you want, but you're better off just admitting you have no idea what you're talking about. "American weather conditions"...

Hey man,

february and march aren't in winter.

On planet Earth in the northern hemisphere they are. Spring doesn't begin until around March 20, depending on when the spring equinox is.

Apple's current charger can charge any micro usb equipped phone provided that a usb to micro usb cable is available, so it meets that goal.

Apple could choose to supply a standard usb to micro usb cable and a dock connector adapter featuring a female micro usb port in place of the current USB to dock connector cable if they wanted to though. Basically it would look the same as the current cable Apple uses at first glance, but the dock connector would be removable to reveal a micro usb plug on the cable.

I don't exactly know about the iPad, but in the past several times
slight "modifications" (resistors in the charger between contacts that were detected by the device) made iPods and iPhones incompatible with 3rd party USB chargers (or even older Apple chargers).

While I don't know if the iPad would be classified as a phone in Europe (possible when it includes 3G and facetime) Apple would have to give up such lockouts on the iPhone at least.

I played with a Galaxy Tab and didn't like the size... seemed like an odd size for a tablet. Great for an e-reader though. It just did not seem big enough to be really useful for more than e-books and showing photos. The larger sceen makes email, typing and web surfing much more natural. I have to agree with SJ. But that is my opinion too. :D
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the current size is wrong, or unsuitable. It's simply a desire of mine to have a slightly more portable version for traveling.

I believe that just like Apple offers a variety of sizes of laptops, they could benefit and enjoy huge success with both the current size and the 7" size which seems to be popular with the upcoming manufacturers.

Cheers... :)

something all of you are completely overlooking is the actual transit time from China to the US. Depending on the port of entry you are looking at anywhere from 2 weeks to a month. even if they ship in february it could easily be march before the shipments even get to the US, much less clear customs...

I think the rumors are just out there to hurt sales for December. Seriously, why would Apple announce anything appearing in February with Christmas a few weeks away?

I was going to buy one in March but if I buy the one in March, wont they just come out with a new one a year later? Should I wait and buy that one? Can you imagine how cool the 2020 model will be. I will probably wait for that one.

I'm with you dude. I mean, I want to get the new MB Air, but now I hear they're going to update the damn things before summer...probably. So then I thought about the MB Pro, but they're also updating them!! I know I'll be getting the next iPhone though.

When I turn 70, all this crap will be uploaded via globe-wide wifi into my gigantic brain.

Yes. Before April, the next ipad will not be available.

Right about the date but really, if you go with the "weather conditions" here it's:

Winter: December, January, February
Spring: March, April, May
Summer: June, July, August
Fall: September, October, November
;)
Hmm, not here. Minnesota seasons:

Winter: Oct-Apr
Spring: May-Jul 17
Summer: July 18
Fall: Jul 19-Sep

Ahhh, July 18. Great day!

Actually a mini-USB socket is a absolute given as the European Union mandated it as the standard recharging method on all cell phones. Of course just because the connector is there doesn't indicate USB functionality.

I don't think the Ipad would fall into the cell phone category. Just the Iphone of course. I know there is a 3g ipad but they also have 3g laptops, netbook, hp slate, acros.... and the ipad is a tablet.. I dunno just my .02 from reading more into the mandate.
