I waited in the queue for 10 hours and he sent me a message just before they took the orders in the queue.... I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I knew I had 14 days to return it.... My wife also wanted 1 but changed her mind

via the website, 2 appeared in stock so I quickly grabbed one for store collection
I was quite annoyed as I sat up to 1am the other night and got one from apple.com with the long ship time, happy now as I should have it at 2pm tomorrow!
Very happy with the John lewis service. Picked mine up this morning. Ordered online on 25th at 5.pm. When I collected this morning they still had one or two on sale in store here in Swindon. Quickly sold whilst there but they are very reliable and you can collect when you like. Now cancelled the apple order from 12.30 on 25th. JL direct are really good hardly any accessories anywhere though.

Sorry, which store are you collecting from? A friend called 8 stores today to be told they have no stock and could reserve but would be told when in stock again not just collect next day.

Lol - I was about to post the exact same thing. Just had email from apple too, same delivery date
Monday then as soon as ive got the iPad in my hands I'll cancel the apple order. I'm stuffed though if apple ship it before then lol - I'm guessing I'll be able to return it though?
Waiting for it to be in my hands too, and after checking it for light bleeding, before I cancel. Apple has a 14 day no quibble return policy. On top of that distance selling regulations would give you 7 days anyway.
Yeah, I believe the states it was around 5 odd days before they shipped.
iPad 2 from Currys
Got two at apple store online one using one-click and one through regular purchase. Tried some 50 times because of all the "Ooops...". Got the confirmation emails quick but only one appeared on my orders. When I woke up I had two orders waiting (15/27 and 15/26 delivery). That's over a month! I've been to Covent Garden store at 1PM and 7:30PM the queues were beyond reason. I decided to look around for alternatives.
In this thread I got the idea of PC World, Currys, Argos, John Lewis etc. In the morning I tried Argos by text reservations in the area of North London but none had the stock. I then went to Currys Online and found that the iPad 2 was "Available for Home Delivery (3-5 working days)" with two models "Available for Home Delivery (2-3 weeks)". That seemed credible and made me believe that they are actually in stock. Went ahead and ordered White 16GB WiFi + cover + HDMI adapter. Got two emails from them:
1. 8:37AM
"We've received your recent order and it is currently being processed.
(...)
What happens next?
We will email you again when your order is confirmed. All orders are subject to stock availability.
(...)
(expect delivery within 3 working days)"
2. 8:44AM
"We are now preparing your Currys order for delivery.
(...)
What happens next?
Your products will be delivered to you.
(...)
(expect delivery within 3 working days)
Delivery method: Standard

I just checked the website some of the iPads are not in stock others are:
"Stock available: In stock within 28 days ".
I just cancelled both orders from Apple.
On the side note. I believe that regular Apple customers went to the store and online to purchase theirs. The other "occasional/new Apple customers" probably thought it's a computer so let me check PC World etc. They got theirs on the spot (or will be getting their iPads within 3 days).
I feel a little cheated by Apple (yes it's personal. Our relationship is bit demanding on their side (you either queue or screw you) You would think that they would be the first place to get yours just to find out that somebody completely ignorant went to Argos and got theirs on the spot or will get it next day.
Well done everyone who managed to get their new iPad already and good luck to everybody who is still hunting.

Does anyone know how Tesco Direct operate? I assume its a warehouse somewhere down south and they just dispatch around the country rather than their grocery service which only delivers from a store nearby?
I've ordered the iPad 32gb White WIFI with grey smart cover and want to cancel my order online because I ddn't realise tesco direct were selling them aswell and my girlfriend has a staff discount card for 10% so it would make sense to wait till they have stock and purchase it that way.

Returning mine for a refund, has a light leak. And that I've realised it's easier to just use my MacBook Pro for all the tasks I would do on the iPad, not sure where it fits in for me.
I'm in the same position as you (well, just behind you actually, about 25th in the metro centre line) Brother asked me to get a black 16 gb wi-fi for him, now hes not sure!
