Why does Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray always continue to get coverage when he has always proven to be wrong?
Because sane readers like you and me are a nearly extinct species.

The average MacRumors reader is completely oblivious of Munster's pathetic record and MR would rather absorb the pageviews from shoddy reporting rather than point out Munster's laughable track record. (He's not even a star-rated analyst.)

Journalism died in the mid-Nineties. The media will lie to you just to get attention. Integrity has vanished.

Yea because the Verizon iPad is everywhere to be found.

Actually, they are everywhere to be found. In Portland, OR we had so many Verizon iPads going unpurchased that Apple was cycling them between stores.

As of today they had finally run out.

Its so odd (but cool) to know that I am part of a "extinct species" :D

Anytime I see the words "Gene Munster" or "Piper Jaffray" in a headline or sentence I immediately debunk the story move onto the next (though this time I couldn't resist to comment).

Lucky you, kind of jealous you got an opportunity like that, would of loved to know his knowledge.

On another note, how does the guy manage to get 300 iPads when the limit is two per person? And even if he pays people to stand in lines, 150 people? Seems like he has quite the army. You'd need a lot of connections to be able to get that many people working for you

He said that it was around launch time. He had a good month or so to bring them to countries that didn't have them for a while. He probably called around everyday and stocked up on however many he could.

Can they work without unlocking?

Can someone confirm if iPad2 are not carrier unlocked? Can we simply buy from US and bring it back to any country and put GSM 3G card and use it?

I rather not want to buy which i have to do unlock and babysit every time apple releases iOS for Ipad2.

I wrote "nearly extinct."

But yeah, every time I see "Gene Munster," "Shaw Wu", "Katy Huberty" or "Rob Enderle", I just roll my eyes. And that's like 95% of MacRumors articles about analysts. They seem to gravitate to the people with the worst track records.

It would be better (at least from an integrity standpoint) if MR would quote star-rated analysts, but I guess that doesn't generate the same number of pageviews.

I don't know if they did it on purpose, but Apple perfectly nailed this launch. They released just enough iPads sell out fast, and leave a lot of people wanting more. They bumped the delivery dates to 3-4 weeks, so they can trickle iPads into the stores for the next week or two, and guarantee lots of lines and lots of press.

They do not come with a contract and are not carrier-locked. However I have heard reports that the original iPad did require specific radio frequencies to be used and if your carrier of choice doesn't use them that's separate issue. But you SHOULD be able to use any carrier's GSM chip in the iPad2. I don't own one myself, so unfortunately I cannot confirm this 110% for you, but here is a link to another MR thread where someone asked the same question:

So it seems that indeed you should be able to use the GSM card from any carrier.

Their was at least 500 people in line at the Apple Store in my town and he only surveyed 236 people total and came to the conclusion the 70% of people in that line represented an accurate estimate for sales around the country, how does he figure?

It's called sampling. Take some college level math, or even a statistics class.

Someone please tell me how can those people buys in huge numbers???

Cash, people? What is it?

In fact Apple doesn't accept cash AFAIK...

The AT&T iPad 2 has been confirmed to be unlocked. Just plug in your GSM microsim and it should work.

The Verizon iPad 2 however, being CDMA, cannot be reprogrammed to other than Verizon.

As others have said, its not carrier locked. However, its sometimes not as simple as putting in a SIM card. The APN will need to be changed as well, either OTA, with iTunes or manually. If OTA and iTunes does not work - do it manually with this site.

Last time I heard they do accept cash for iPad sales.

As someone who wants an iPad 2 (actually 2 of them), I'm disgusted by these actions. As an Apple shareholder, I'm loving it! :)

iPad 2 utilizes a different radio. It is now Quad band HSPA 850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz and the original iPad was only Tri band. This means that 1 model will now work globally, with the exception of the Verizon models.

I'm hearing the international launch may be pushed back by at least 2-3 weeks, basically repeating what happened last year. Apple will once again want to focus production on meeting demand in its most important market first.

Well, seeing as how the European market makes up over 40% of Apple revenue, one could argue that it's just as - if not more - important than the US market.

This crap straight pisses me off. The reason I was not able to find a 64GB AT&T model in all of NYC area. I waited for HOURS Friday and Saturday!

Today the base 16GB Wi-Fi model is for sale in Bangkok, THAILAND for US$1,150

In the past few days I've read more post of users that wanted GSM iPads and could not find them rather than users who wanted CDMA iPads.

I would have switched to VZW, if they would have offered me unlimited data for $30....

Just saw the new iPads at a reseller here in Tehran, Iran. Black 16GB wi-fi model is about 920$ but white 16BG wi-fi model is 100$ more expensive!
