And, to my surprise, one of my relatives has used nothing but a Windoz machine, but her husband got an iPad for his birthday last year. Not only new to iPad, but new to Apple.

Why would that be a surprise? I have an iPhone, an iPod, and I just bought an iPad, but will not by a Mac yet. Apple is superior in portable electronics, but when it comes to serious computing, they are still playing catch up with the Windows systems (at any given price point, of course).

As far as cash, I paid for 90% of my iPad with $50 and $100 bills (gifts and exchange cash from built-up lunch money change) and the rest via credit card, so they do take cash for certain.

In regard to the "No AT&T because of scalpers," I was ~40th in line at the Albany Apple Store (out of probably 2-300), and when they came around to ask who wanted what model, there weren't all AT&T people ahead of me. When they get to me, I requested a 32GB White AT&T model, and they said they couldn't...not because they sold them out, but because they literally got no stock of that particular model. I'm not sure what the distribution pattern was, but a flagship (of the area) Apple Store didn't even get one type of model. That doesn't speak to scalpers, it speaks to bottlenecks in the supply chain somewhere for certain models.

Just order on-line and be patient - IF you really want an iPad (of any flavor).

A recent survey linked success with the ability to postpone gratification.

Someone please tell me how can those people buys in huge numbers???

Cash, people? What is it?

In fact Apple doesn't accept cash AFAIK...

Apple does accept cash for iPads now. They really insisted I open up the box and plug it in one of their computers though. I don't know what that is about. I'm not a reseller. The purchase was for me.

True to a certain extent. I believe Apple has a superior platform but the hardware is lacking.

You and Charlie Sheen!

Resale

when i was buying my iPad 2 i definitely saw people buying iPads in the bundle and talk about the people going crazy over the apple cover case. i saw one guy try to buy 30 cases but was told only 2 per person. its crazy how this iPad 2 movement is taking off... may just be the year of the ipad2

I'm hearing the international launch may be pushed back by at least 2-3 weeks, basically repeating what happened last year. Apple will once again want to focus production on meeting demand in its most important market first.

LMAO conceited much?

I'm really happy for the international resellers. It's just good old fashioned business, I hope they clean up.

You ought to try it. Not sure where they're still playing "catch-up" to Windows, in terms of software at least-- Apple had a head start in GUIs back in 1984, and they've maintained their lead quite well over the past 27 years.

As for hardware: yes, Apple had always been behind since the Intel transition, but you don't buy a Mac because you want nice hardware. You buy a Mac because you want to use a Mac. There's no logical justification really.

And that's why the iPad and iPhone and iPod make me sad. I'm sad because Apple is diverting resources from the Mac and OS X to focus on iToys. Unlike computers, Apple doesn't have an industry to keep up with hardware- and software-wise in terms of iToys, since they pretty much are the industry. For them it's easier, for me it's upsetting.

But I realize this isn't the place for such nostalgia. So let's go back to talking about how long everybody had to wait in line in order to not get an iPad 2 on launch day.

This guy had a car full, he had a horde of old asian ladies waiting in line for the iPad 2's

the reseller guy in this article - way too much work to make a buck
me - i'd rather trade aapl stock - both up and down
from my easy chair

I bought my first generation iPad from this mall lol. Currently too broke to get a newer one, I'll just wait until it is officially released.

People complaining about resellers make me laugh. Some in China willing to spend over $1,500 for an iPad obviously values it more than someone willing to pay $830. In a free market goods should go where they offer the most value and since Apple can't do that by themselves some people do it for them. What's the difference between buying regular goods/services and reselling them for a profit (what almost every businesses does) and doing the same with iPads? Everyone has to make a living somehow.

I wonder how long the delay will be for Canada. I sold my iPad a week ago. I doubt I will have time to line up so I will have to wait for the influx of people during the first few weeks of release. 23 or 25th of March is the official release date.. :(

Yes, if you call international Apple fanboys eh, loyal customers, who are willing to pay the markup, expenses paying a little asian or russian grandmother waiting in line, duty taxes, and various middlemen.

I see it as frustration from Apple's sales campaign scheduling international sales up to 6 months past the US sales launch. The original 1st generation iPhone and 3G were not available, even by mail order to many countries.

When I worked for a major law firm, one of the senior partners asked his secretary to get up at 5AM in the morning and wait on line at the 5th Avenue Apple store get him a 3G iphone. This was like the 2nd week after the launch and there was still long lines. I don't see any difference paying someone to stand in line.

The epitome of greed eh?
