It's a convenient way to access the web. What's to get excited about? Handy even if limited it does offer most of what I need. As long as one is OK with being crippled without flash. It'll do.

I think it's a decent enough upgrade. The fact that it's 33% thinner but has the same battery life and such upgraded specs is great. I do prefer the back of the iPad 1 though.

I'll see which one I pick up. I''ll definitely get an iPad 2 if possible, but I wouldn't say no to an original if I saw one for a great price...

I want one....like yesterday ;)

I thought the iPad 1 was just a bit underpowered. Maybe they resovled this.

If they did, I may just dump the lappy most of the time on the road.

time will tell.

I'm kind of torn. I already have a 64GB iPad, so its not like I NEED an iPad this very second, and I have an iPod Touch 4g which has an front and back cam that I hardly use. But I really like the new design of the iPad 2 and the fact that it is faster is a big plus for me. But the feature that I was looking forward the most, they didn't announce it, which was the Retina Display, or just a better display. So I think I'm just going to enjoy my current iPad, and get the second one more down the road.

It honestly ended up being exactly what I wanted. I wanted cameras and a lighter body and I got it. Something about the weight of the iPad 1 was such a turn off. I've played around with one for a good amount of time and noticed my hand was getting irritated from holding it for so long. It just wasn't comfortable. Also that its thinner makes it even better. I can't wait to finally have one. I'll be playing a lot more games on it since the battery sucks on my 3GS.

Personally I like it.

I have an original iPad, I have had it since day 1 of the US release, well I got it a few weeks after as it was posted to me from LA.

I want the iPad 2 because of the increased functionality, the cameras are a nice touch especially as I do have a 2 year old and we live 2000 miles from the rest of my family. So being able to take video and edit it on the fly then post it up on say FB is a real plus. Never expected a retina display or a memory bump (I have the 32GB Wifi never needed more memory or a cellular data plan)

My son is fully conversant with the iPad and yes he is only 2 and a half, so he will be fine with this, I expect him to be video editing by the time he is 5 :)

The good news is I have never had to pay for a single one of my Apple products (Website Forum Manager for Dance Magazine) iMac, iPad, and iPhone 4 (switched carrier for Mobile and My home BB and got the phone for 5€ amonth on a 2 year contract), so am hoping to get this one for gratis also, however I am also hoping to get a New Macbook Air as well, if it's a choice I will go for the Air.

...Right, and if you take one pixel, double it in each direction, it would be four pixels. Quadrupling the pixel density, but doubling the resolution.

2048x1536 @ 9.7" would be double the resolution but quadruple the pixel density when compared to the original iPad.
No, if anything you have it completely backwards. Once again, pixel density is measured in dots-per-inch (or pixels-per-inch). It's a linear measurement, not an area -- it's NOT dots-per-square-inch or pixels-per-square-inch. I wish people would take the time to at least glance at the reference links that are given to them rather than just immediately firing off a response. Look on wikipedia, it couldn't be clearer:

iPad 2 is for the people, like me, who didn't buy iPad 1.

I think it's amazing and the reasons I didn't buy iPad 1 are now filled. And I am going to buy a black one. Without that stupid cover. All I wanted was cameras for face time. I got it and alot more.

There are Millions of iPad 1 Owners who aren't going to upgrade EVERY year. Millions of businesses/corporate/medical who have intergrated it into their workflow already. They're not going to change in a hurry. Most people leapfrog upgrades. That is, every second or maybe third. If you consider a carriers contract of two years it's a pretty good indication of how you'll see major upgrades. Otherwise upgrades are wasted. Only the diehard fanbois want a new machine EVERY year. Same with the iPhone too. There are more iPad owners then there are all the other tablets combined so Apple still has a total foot hold.

iOS5 will come at the right time offering alot more usability and features. Notifcations, filesystem (probably basic) yada yada. Just at a time when people are thinking of upgrading. It will give new life to their old ipad 1 or 2 and keep them happy until the next hardware upgrade.

Then iPad 3 will come and knock the ball outa the park, not this fall. Next Year same time. It will have to to keep iPad 1 + 2 owners happy and probably win the hearts of all the late medium to late adopters, skeptics and spec zombies of the product. So I bet it will be a BIG upgrade.

The disappointment in people comes from early rumours spoiling the surprise. And people buy into the buz and excitement of revolutionary things, like the first iPad. But now it's been out for a year that thrill has gone.

Apple wins. The competition has a seriously hard time trying to beat this now. I'm thinking VHS or Beta here.

i sold my ipad three weeks ago with the intent of getting ipad 2 regardless of what the upgrades were going to be. everything looks pretty much as expected, and i can't wait to get one next friday.

Can anyone really think the ($800) Xoom is a serious competitor to the iPad now?

I'm sure there will be some nitwits, blathering nonsense about "walled gardens" and "crippled without Flash." But in the real world, made up of individuals and businesses with better things to do with their time, how can anyone seriously think that the clunky, unbalanced, "barely ready for release" Xoom is worth paying more money than the iPad. When the so-called Android market has a bare handful of optimized Apps. When you've got to buy the thing with a Verizon sticker on the back.

Back to the drawing board for the Motorola, Samsung, HP, and Google boys.

Just finished watching the Keynote. So what was with all the video lag when they demonstrated ichat? I don't remember it being that bad when they used ichat on the iPhone in past keynotes.

I thought the cover was kind of lame and really overpriced. Apple really doesn't get it that customers want to also protect the aluminum back. We are expected to carry our iPad around and the metal back won't get scratched up? Come on Apple, portable devices either need their exteriors designed more rugged or be kept inside a case.

The new iPad apps were pretty cool. GarageBand looked pretty good, I will admit.

Still not happy these devices don't use Flash. I really want Hulu.com on the iPad without having to pay for Hulu Plus. Or be able to watch missed TV episodes on all the network sites.

Overall, think I'm sticking with my 1st Gen iPad for a while longer.

Same memory? How do you know? I am sure the new iPad has at least 512MB RAM.

Steve would have screamed about double the RAM if it had it... I mean come on he screamed about the same battery life, same price, and everything else..

They need to sort out the RAM and screen for the iPad 3.

Edit: Please don't get me wrong, for the same price the iPad 2 is a huge improvement over the iPad 1. I already have a tablet and the iPad 2 simply doesn't offer me enough to migrate, however, if I didn't have a tablet and I was looking to buy one, it would probably be the iPad 2. I just need a better screen and more RAM to tempt me away...

Apple never mentions RAM size. It is a policy of them to concentrate on features and not on detailed specs that most people wouldn't understand. I know that for a fact, as I have cooperated with Apple a lot of times.

Ok so why mention the CPU and GPU [which is more technical than RAM!]?

I think I'll pass on the iPad 2 this year. Never got the first as we all know first model product buyers become THE BETA TESTERS. Will use the funds for a much needed computer CPU upgrade (i7 time!) instead. Next year's iPad will likely be a purchase though.

Giving it thought I see no reason to upgrade but it is step forward for new buyers.

Waiting for a higher res screen with 1GB of ram.

I think...

My opinion:

-> I'm more than happy with this new iPad. Why? 'cos I don't own one yet, so I don't have anything to compare it to :p

-> My main gripe with the iPad 2 is the price. The perfect model for my needs is the 32GB Wifi+3G model but the pricetag stings me. 729 €uros

-> I guess the screen could have been a better resolution one, but that's not a biggie for me :)

-> YAY FOR WHITE! :D I'm so happy that Apple succeeded to make the new iPad in white as well. I wanted to buy the iPhone 4 in white and was seriosly pissed that Apple blew it  No more home button coloring issues, eh?

-> OMG THAT'S SO COOL! I'm impressed with the new iPad 2 Smart Covers. So cool! I'm happy to see a (product)Red version as well, I'm gonna buy it, looks cool with my new white iPad 2 and gives money to charity, win win situation :)

-> it would have been nice to see a FM radio on the new iPad, maybe someday it will happen? :)
