Using a tablet for NFC isn't quite as useful as using a phone. That just seems to me more of a phone feature.
Yes, it would be more useful on a phone. But NFC could be used for a lot of things that would directly benefit any iOS device.

It's like most Apple product, if you have the previous generation version, I think it's really stupid to go buy an iPad 2. If you don't have one and you want a tablet, it's arguably the nicest tablet on the market for the cheapest base price. You're going to get all the software updates over the next few years. When iOS 5 comes out with new notifications and all that stuff, you can get that functionality. It looks like a tablet from a company who's made one before and learned how to improve it.

Can NFC be used for integration with other nfc devices similar to what webos is doing with their pre and tablet? I thought that might have been thrown out there - notifications on phone are sent to ipad etc.

OMG SO PUMPED. IM GOING TO SELL MY IPAD AND GET A......

Laptop.

Sick of not being able to do real things on my portable. Sick of struggling to hit the correct link. Sick of the lack of true multitasking. Sick of stupid "App" environment.

Seriously though, no compelling upgrades yet. Sure, Photo booth would be fun to play with. So would Garageband, for when I was bored. iMovie might be fun to play with, but I doubt it. Will the iPad be able to edit 1080 24P footage from my 5DII? Doubt it. My iMac can barely do that. So what DO you edit? Footage you shot with your iPad?????

Nothing in this upgrade that moves the iPad from "Toy" category into "Tool."

Pumped on new MBP! :p

You're missing the whole point. People think that tablets are suppose to be a notebook without keyboards. But that's not what they are. They're a new platform.

Of course you're not going to be editing full length HD movies XD, that's not what the iPad is for.

I do currently have an iPad and am considering getting the iPad2. Of course that all depends on whether I can sell this one. One friend couldn't do it, but I am trying to convince another person. If he says no, I'll have to decide what to do. However, the specs are impressive enough for me.

I think its a great success already, the internet is full of the usual trolls out in force slating it for not being able to do anything on their list of nonsense or specs it doesn't have making it useless/redundant before its even available so its definitely roused the "internet experts" expect a fresh batch of members here
Revolutionary, no, that was the original iPad last year, this is an update to put it where the majority of the previously mentioned experts claimed the first iPad would be, bedecked with cameras, I'm having an iPad 2 as soon as I can get my hands on one.

Didn't Steve look well too :) more rumour mongers proved wrong on that one too.

I will have to see it in person, but from the pictures I've seen I don't like the mostly curved edges. I prefer the current version having more of a flat edge, like on the iPhone 4. And not happy that making it thinner means having to purchase new cases. But making a product to thinner and lighter isn't always a good thing, sometimes it just makes it feel cheap.

I am relatively satisfied with the upgrades... could there have been more, sure... but there's enough there for me to upgrade my current iPad. Maybe now "The Daily" will actually be usable... maybe?

How so?

The front looks like the photos of the white iPhone we've seen for the better part of a year and the back looks like one of several iPod Touches.
I just don't think that the back looks very much like an Apple product. The iPad 1 had a much nicer design, IMO.

Really? A tablet thinner than even your iPhone? Surely you're kidding..
KIRFs can be thin too. I'd take a solid feeling tablet any day over a thin one. They could have crammed a bigger battery in the iPad 1's size, or maybe even an LTE modem.

No retina = no sale. The thing is a snooze-fest. Call me when iPad has a retina display, otherwise I'll stick with my 11" MacBook Air.

Seriously, the pixels on that thing are huge. It is straight up unacceptable.

Retina Screen for iPad 2 will be the iPad 3 in November

Did I understand that the HDMI adapter will allow all apps to play over the TV? Including games and productivity apps? I am trying to figure out if this stuff will be included in the iphone 5 (hopefully with a 4" screen!).

My biggest gripe with the iPad 2: they essentially used the same camera sensors as those found on the 4G iPod touch. In effect, it has become a 4G iPod touch "writ large."

I wished Apple instead put in the five-megapixel camera sensor from the iPhone 4, including full digital focus. Now THAT would have made the iPad 2 a highly desirable device.

You do realize the iPad has the same PPI

People around here are "unacceptable"

No, the MBA has a noticeably higher PPI (almost 10% higher) than an iPad and it offers much better functionality with the same portability. Plus the viewing distance is a bit longer than that of an iPad.

Pixel density is measured in dots-per-inch, so it would be double.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_density

Right, and if you take one pixel, double it in each direction, it would be four pixels. Quadrupling the pixel density, but doubling the resolution.

2048x1536 @ 9.7" would be double the resolution but quadruple the pixel density when compared to the original iPad.

It's a solid upgrade. I think people are hoping for way too much. The only deal-breaker for me is the lack of a higher quality display. I don't need a retina display or double the pixels, but some increase in pixels would have been nice and I think they could've done it. I sold my original iPad to buy a Macbook Air 13" which I sold to buy a new Macbook Pro 15". I think I'll wait until iPad 3.

I bought the iPad 1 when it first came out and have used it everyday since then. This iPad is the only Apple product I own, I eventually want to get an iMac or MacBook pro when I get the money for it. The cameras on the new iPad do not really bother me, I don't see myself using them. The CPU and GPU upgrade would be nice. In the end, I'm going to stick with my iPad 1. I still think Apple would do just fine without the upgrade and sell more iPads.
Anyways, I think once I get some money I'll be set with just a MacBook pro and a new iPhone, then you don't really need the iPad.
MacBook pro for actual computing usage and new iPhone for calls/listening to music, and for other media for on the go.
