I know people are complaining about people "Looking for problems" I'm one of them but this isn't a problem you had to look for, its pretty horrendous. Make sure you swap it

This is actually a legit reason for an exchange.

Agree. So those that think its nothing or why is he looking for issues, maybe if you had such a bleed you will be upset and posting on this forum. Give him a break. I to would return it with that kind of bleed.

Yea. But the retina display is AMAZING! Talk about a beautiful screen.

If you want to find a problem...you're gonna find one.

The photo you provided is useless. It's HUGE.... BAD angle.... Shadows reflecting off the screen etc etc.

Oh c'mon gang, unless you are blind or just trying to be a a$$hat anyone can see that bright light under the FF camera lens in the pic OP posted.

A couple of my iPad 2's had a slight "bulge" in the glass around the FF camera lens. While none of the iPad 3's I've just unboxed show this, it was a known issue to Apple at the time and they readily replaced mine without question at the Genius bar.

Go to the Apple store (if near you) and ask for a replacement. They will do so without any fuss at all. Its not supposed to be like that.

It has been said but this is truly a bad issue, and there are going to be lemons when apple has to make so many. The OP isn't like some who point out a speck of something that could be just dust. Take it to the apple store, they'll help you out. ;)

Thanks for the tips, everyone. Hopefully they agree that it shouldn't look like that. :)

They'll swap it out for you, no problem. They did for my iPad 2 when it had this. The replacement ended up having minor bleed too, but it didn't really bother me. Good luck.

Ok guys, my iPad 3 and my Wife's iPad 3 arrived. And there is absolutely 0 light bleed on her iPad but mine has light bleed at the top.

Light Bleed.jpg

Should I return mine? It didn't even bother me till I checked. You can only see it at an angle too.

My light bleed'ing iPad 3 (2 posts above) doesn't bother me at all. I went into the back office and turned off all the lights and it doesn't bother me one bit. I can't see it till I'm at an extreme angle. Now if it was as bad as the OP - I think I would but my iPad 3 has an engraving and this is my first iPad so I'm inclined to live with this. Would you guys replace?

If it doesn't bother you then don't stress it.

It is up to personal preference. However, I wouldn't find that acceptable on a $500+ dollar device.

Exchange it. I got an iPad 2 with the same issue many many months after initial release. It's possible.

It really has nothing to do with being held at an angle, in my case it's so bright it lights up the top of the iPad across the top. Titling it just makes it easier to see and photograph. Really disappointed to see something like this, it's not a "small" issue at all.

Man that's bad. I got a bad screen again... went through 5 iPad 2s and have a feeling it'll be the same thing this time.

i've used several tablets (android, ipad, touchpad, etc) and MANY seem to exhibit this sort of problem. Doesn't really explain it away, but it seems like the problem might be something inherent in the design of these tightly engineered devices. Annoying, but probably not worth fighting against the tide.

The OP's iPad is not leaking light; the light is EXPOSED  That is definitely a defect and should be exchanged. Others who took long exposure photos of a blank screen on 100% brightness in a dark basement are looking for problems  Not the OP's case.

This is indeed terrible. Exchange it.

Are you sure you are not seeing a reflection of light rather than so-called light bleeding? I am not disputing your claim, but I don't support it either. I just checked my new iPad and compared it to my iPad 1 and saw nothing like what appears in your photo.

That's because your iPads aren't defective like his is.

Oh dear God.

Please not this again.

OP, yours is clearly defective, but it's not a light bleed or leak. It's simply poor workmanship and/or improper assembly. It should be exchanged.

Still though. You've revived one of the most obnoxious topics of last year. Thanks for that:cool:

For those of you saying backlight bleeding isn't a legit reason for an exchange/refund... as long as Apple doesn't list "Backlight Bleeding" as one of the features of the iPad, we do have to return the device we paid hundreds of dollars for.
