I dunno why I'm getting the flame war responses. Just checking to see if anyone else's brand new product has a flaw.. That may prove to be common. Let us be civil.

Ignore the flame war responses. They are usually Apple fanboys who thinks every product Apple makes is perfect, and if you whine about it, you are labeled a troll.

Oh wow, thats not right. You need to exchange that. I just checked mine over and don't seem to have that issue.

Wow that is a lot worse than mine. (including pic again for reference). Light Bleed.jpg

I'm debating returning it - I have an Apple Store near my parent's house 90 miles away so I might ask if they can return it. I got my iPad engraved and everything.

I went to a black webpage (blackle) and went into a pitch black room and I couldn't even tell that I had that "light bleeding." So I'm thinking I might just keep it assuming it doesn't get worse.

My is like that except smaller. It doesn't bleed at all. Although, my iPad is warm to hot while reinstalling my backup apps. It's not slight warm but not so hot to hold.

I must have got lucky this is by far the best looking iPad I have owned (screen wise). I have no yellowing or light bleed of any kind. The font is sharp and crisp. I have noticed on the USA Today app you can tell the graphics are not retina ready (image degradation).

Oh dear God.

Please not this again.

OP, yours is clearly defective, but it's not a light bleed or leak. It's simply poor workmanship and/or improper assembly. It should be exchanged.

Still though. You've revived one of the most obnoxious topics of last year. Thanks for that:cool:

Lol. I think light bleed vs exposed LED bar are two different issues. I don't have any iPad 2 ish bleed. This is different.

Crap..

Let me join the OP's club, except mine overs 2/3 of the top edge  iPad 2 on left, new iPad on right.

PS I just stopped by the Apple store after dinner. None of their display models have any exposed lighting elements like this.

Don't worry about the attacks. This is why I am waiting.

I wonder how many have this issue. I suppose I was lucky, no yellow screen nor light bleed, week 7 manufacturing.

Hope Apple replaces these quickly for those affected.

I have it too, however, less than yours. I also cannot see it in a dark room, and only when it is at an unusable angle. So, for me it is a non issue. It doesn't affect my picture in any way. If yours is messing with your picture, or is visible at ANY regular viewing angle, I would replace it in a heartbeat.

mine (3rd gen,32gb wifi)has the same problem, there is an one inch long exposure of light right under the front camera. I noticed it right after the first bootup, it is very ugly and annoying, and the ipad gets pretty hot at the bottom left corner after 20mins of use and the battery depletes rather fast (from 77% to 43% in less than 1 hour of browsing web). I'm bringing it go the genius bar tomorrow and hopefully a replacement may solve these issues.

Yess bring it back. I'm on my 3rd new iPad - the first one had a bright spot on the screen itself and the 2nd one had the exact problem you described. The third one seems to be perfect

I've got a bleed (about 1mm wide running all along the bottom edge), it's only really noticeable when I'm in a mostly black ap (ie photos with only 2 or so photos in the album)... Not massively concerned, but debating going to the genius bar about it.

64g 4g btw

I noticed this near the top of mine too. Not sure if it's worth trying to exchange it. I don't believe it actually impacts the device nor if it's possible to get one without this "defect". When I use a black background the screen is pretty uniform.

I think people are just sick of it. Everyone latched on to this light bleed thing for iPad 2, and in most cases it was just people being really really nitpicky. If you really look hard for flaws on an Apple product, you will find them. Best advice is to not look for them. If you find one and it's something you can't stand, take it to Apple.

But consider yourself warned that you don't want to go down that path. Once you inspect one and decide it's no good, no refurb (and yes, you WILL get a refurb) will be good enough for you either. Did it with my iPhone 4, did it with my iPad 2. My 3rd gen iPad went from its box directly to the back snap on cover. Put a screen protector on it right away, stuck the smart cover on there, and now I'm sitting and enjoying it, not looking for things I hate.

Doubt there are any returns right now. And the glass is half full here.

I have a slight light bleed at the top of my device but I'll probably just keep it instead of dealing with the hassle of returning it.

My iPad 2 had this issue, light bar visible on about 1/3-1/2 of the top of the screen, took it into an Apple store after I noticed it (8 months after I bought it) and they said that technically it falls into the acceptable range for LCD's, but they'd replace it for me anyway. The replacement was basically flawless and my new iPad is the same :D. I am in Australia though, so YMMV
