Mine has minor light leakage along the top of the screen. I didn't even notice it until I saw this thread and went looking. Will I return it over this? Probably not.

Mine looks exactly like this, in the same spot. I don't think I'll return mine either. No other issues that I can tell so far.

Doubt there are any returns right now. And the glass is half full here.

They always have items for exchanges for defective product purchases. I'd get that exchanged immediately. And FWIW, my new iPad is the best build quality of the 4 I've owned (2 iPad, 1 iPad 2, and 1 new iPad).

Exchange it!

I notice this issue on mine as well, not quite as severe as some of the photos. It was causing light bleed and uneven blacks. I just walked and exchanged it for a new one, showed the genius the issue (nicely btw) and no questions asked they game me a brand new one and we inspected it in store. New one is perfect. Deep rich blacks with no bleeding at all.

You pay this much for a device, it should be right. If you don't care, then no worries then.

Mine had the same issue, took it to Apple today and they replaced it with a new one. Was in and out in 5 minutes :)

Some threads like this one mentioned people to start hunting the problems on their own iPads which might be too minor to be noticed before and then turns out to be really annoyed. No one can guarantee you will get a perfect device after the replacement. And there is nothing perfect in the world. Perhaps the worst thing is that you get mad when you find out another defect on the new one.

Ooooo nasty. Just tried mine and I'm safe. I have to say with all these reported problems it looks like I've been very lucky with mine.

I bought my first iPad 3 on Sunday from pc world (ugh but only place in stock round here) I have the same issue that a lot of had on here. Not backlight bleeding as such but the weird bright light round the border.

It won't let me post a picture but it is on the top right hand side about an inch from the camera.

Will I have to return to pcworld or go to the apple store?

it seems that some of the light angles are only visible from extreme angles. if the angles are extreme i wouldn't worry about it.

My new iPad had the same issue. When looking straight on you could not notice it. One night I picked it up off the table and saw it. Now I can, not notice it. I returned it no problem for a replacement.

I returned mine since and I now have a perfect screen. I was not going to bother with such a minor thing compared to the OP's but Im afraid it will lead to something worse.

Knowing that the LCD is fused to the glass with glue, seeing light leaking like that only means that the glue has not been applied in that spot where it leaks. This could lead to dust or debris coming in between the glass and LCD. Don't want to experience that in the long run.

After seeing this thread, I immediately picked my iPad up to check the light bleed status - I can't see a single LED up there - even at extreme angles.

I don't see why anyone would pay a ton of money for a tablet - get one looking like that - and then keep it.

I would exchange it immediately...

the replacement of my yellow tinted new iPad has a nice uniform white.not blueish nor pinkish. there is an led exposure viewable at extreme angles at the top next to the front camera nad at the right side of the panel. my question is if i should return it again? it does not bother me now, but i don't know if this could lead to other issues later on. like dust or speck under the glass.

My iPad 2 developed a light bleed on top after it slid off of my lap as I was trying to rub one out in the bathroom. I exchanged it the next day and haven't had issues since. My iPad3 survived a fall from a night stand and still has no leakage. I suggest taking yours back for a replacement.

TMI bro... Way too much.

I dunno why I'm getting the flame war responses. Just checking to see if anyone else's brand new product has a flaw.. That may prove to be common. Let us be civil.

+1

People love to attack behind the safety of their computer. lol

Went through a couple white 64GB Verizon models and all had this issue. Now none of the Apple stores in my city have the 64GB Verizon model in stock.

i had light bleed in two spots in the top right corner on my first one. it also had a clump of dead pixels and very uneven lighting. I exchanged it and this one has no dead pixels and no light blue and the uneven lighting is BETTER but it's still barely noticeable to me. I'm keeping it :)

This is no different than a scratch on the back...it's a cosmetic flaw. I've seen it on 3 New iPads, including the one I now own. If noticed buy a 2nd hand buyer, it will affect resale value, just like a scratch. I prefer to make my own cosmetic flaws, not get them from the factory.

can you see it at normal viewing angles?

Or when watching movies? If its only at that angle.... does it matter?

I wonder how much Apples looses due to Paranoia created on MR.

Its interesting how someone can be happy with a perfectly new ipad, and its perfect till someone finds something wrong.

Good too see that you will probably keep it. My moto is, if its impairs my use, I will know from day one and it will go back, no need to go looking for imperfections, waste of mine.

exchange unit is a refur? or not?

Hey, I exchanged it on day 12 after the purchase. I kept the box, charger and the cord. The guy in the store brought out a "replacement unit" in a carton box [not in retail box], also include a Apple Care Replacement Unit manual.
He said it's a new one. <-- should i believe him? someone told me that the unit in the carton box always is refurbished?
