They make these stories a big deal because they are jealous of Apple's success and want to do anything to bring Apple down a little. If it were an unknown company employing these workers it would get far less media attention.

This sounds like the iphone 4S upgrade. faster, but pretty much a boring update.

With the rumored reports of a 1 mm thicker iPad 3, the possibility of a higher-resolution display is extremely high. Frankly, this is optimum: this unusable first generation Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 is GARBAGE. I can't get it to connect to my Mac, the browsers are unresponsive, and the couple of websites that I visited that were Flash-based have converted to HTML5.

I wonder if the additional 1 mm will also be required to get a second A5 processor in, as opposed to an A6. If the A6 isn't ready, how about putting in two processors: one to drive the graphics, and one to drive the rest of the system?

Once again - why would the design be slightly thicker? If an iPhone 4S can fit an A5 chip, Retina Display, 7 hour battery and an awesome camera, why couldn't the iPad, with more room width and height wise do better?

I've been holding off on the purchase of an iPad until they released a retina display. Remember the difference between a iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4's display? It was remarkable and I can hardly wait to have a similar experience on an iPad.

Oh, really?

"with Foxconn bearing 85%"

...and also 85 percent of the suicides :( Remember that while we all love our gadgets, there is a human cost in getting them to us.

What does that even mean? 85% of the suicides? You sound like either a troll or a moron. The suicide rate for US college students is 4 times what it is at a Foxconn factory, and at Foxconn, it is much less than at comparable factories in China. What about for US soldiers? They commit suicide, so should we not deploy them anymore? What about car factories in Japan? Should we compare those rates also, and "think" about what we chose to buy/drive? People commit suicide, it doesn't matter if they are rich or poor, Chinese or America.

I expected the iPad to be discontinued after this model
Go look at Apple's SEC filings and read the notes from Apple's conference calls with financial analysts.

Apple is making a tidy profit by selling iPads and the market is growing. Like with the iPhone in the smartphone market, Apple is raking in the lion's share of the industry's smartphone profits and media tablet profits.

Once you see the dollars, you'll understand why it is naive to expect the iPad to be discontinued in the foreseeable future.

I have £180 in Apple vouchers and cash ready for this bad boy. I'm hoping it will be at the same price as the iPad 2

I'm thinking the same thing. I love my iPad 2, but I read a lot of comics on it and would really benefit from the Retina Display. There is no way I can afford to keep my current model and purchase the iPad 3, so I may have to put it on eBay. I think I'll mull it over a little longer.

I would wait until Feb before doing anything :p Rumors should be more clear by then

Was the iPad1 price the same as the iPad2?

It's worth pointing out that the iPad 2 is actually thinner than the iPhone 4S, 8.8mm for the former versus 9.3mm for the latter.

Previous rumors here on MacRumors have pointed to the possibility of new display technology that may require a slightly thicker chassis.

Another advantage would be the ability to include a bigger camera module. The rear-facing camera on the iPad 2 is good enough for barcode scanning and some quick augmented reality stuff, but not all that great for picture taking. While an iPad is not ever going to be widely used as Joe Consumer's primary camera, an improvement in the camera module would be in order.

iPad 2 was cheaper in the UK.

iPad was I think £429 (16GB WiFi)

iPad 2 £399

You're saying a retina screen upgrade, upgraded cameras, faster processor, and Siri is a boring update?? You are one tough person to please.

Well for most that was a boring update for the iPhone 4s
(minus the screen update).

Personally retina means little to me. I went from an iPhone 3G to a 4S and barely noticed the difference. I have an iPad2 and like it just fine. I know some people really really want retina on the iPad, which is fine, but honestly it is a feature I simply don't value much.

I think the form factor could be slightly improved by adding a small lip to the back, I also think a second speaker would do it some good for more and stereo sound.

Or he might be being sarcastic.

Yep. Although I think its a steel at £399 I really can't afford for it to go up.

I'll cross my fingers!

Three features I wish the iPad had but know will never happen:

-Better stylus operability. I have a stylus for my iPad, but it's still to thick for proper handwriting/art input. It's the size of a pencil eraser; I'd prefer the size of a pencil point.

-Recognize different levels of pressure

-SD card slot so I can have more storage

I know, not gonna happen, but one can hope. :)

I'd add retina display, but that's gonna happen anyways.

If its the same size, even slightly thicker, it means it will be well packed! :)

Retina screen, of course, and let's hope for a better battery and Siri (proximity sensor)
So your gonna hold your iPad next to your head to talk to siri?

Many of which may have been for reasons unrelated to Apple by folks that never worked on an Apple line. Remember that Foxconn does work for many clients.

Also just how many suicides are we talking about. You try to make it sound like it's thousands when it might be only a couple of dozen. Not to claim that those 24 or so lives should have been lost but that's no excuse for the disservice of hyperbole

1. Recognize different levels of pressure - it already has this (check out garage bend app - drums)
2. Sd card slot - yea thats not gonna happen because its not apple style... the iPad is designed as a fully wireless device and the slot would make the design look ugly
