"with Foxconn bearing 85%"

...and also 85 percent of the suicides :( Remember that while we all love our gadgets, there is a human cost in getting them to us.

In Switzerland we have a higher suicide rate than at the foxconn factory....

I will either buy the next gen or current gen when the next gen releases. I will either get great new features or save a bunch of cash ;) I finally found a good enough bunch of personal reasons to justify a purchase.

Same here. Win-win.:p

I will interpret the previous 80 some odd posts.

I have no real knowledegable idea what the iPad 3 will be and i know very little about the geo-political conditions in China but I will probably buy the iPad 3.

You missed, I will probably buy an iPad 3 if it has minor improvements like a retina or new camera. China is strange and foreign and should be feared. I like shiny things. Suicide rates linked to Apple products is a statistic.

Thats more like it....

Personally retina means little to me. I went from an iPhone 3G to a 4S and barely noticed the difference. I have an iPad2 and like it just fine. I know some people really really want retina on the iPad, which is fine, but honestly it is a feature I simply don't value much.
Retina will be the main reason to get one. I even got a new iPod touch with retina to get rid of the 3rd Gen. I just like the crispy look of the screen. And when I change between iP4 and iPad 2 the difference for me is very noticeable. March ... Soon ...

Ok, so we know it's going to be thicker. The question being is the increase in thickness due to a larger capacity battery or a Retina screen, both, or simply to power a faster higher clocked processor?

At the moment, some sites seem to be saying the increase in thickness is due to the Retina screen, while others say it's just because of a larger capacity battery (no Retina screen).

Going thicker is so NOT Apple, so the question is, why? Apple wouldn't bother increasing battery life (purely as a selling point) if it meant a thicker iPad. So this makes me think it'll have a Retina display but also a bigger battery to compensate for it (reason for thickness increase), a net result of the same current battery life, or at least slightly more.

If it's the 'iPad 2S' and only has speed bumps (& better cameras), with the reason for the bigger battery is say, to power a higher clocked processor, i'm going to be sad.

My realistic bet is:
-iPad 2S
-Faster (1.?GHz Dual-Core / Quad-Core)
-Bigger battery
(although this won't be boasted about as it's purely to compensate for the new power-hungry processor)
-No Retina screen
(this will be the future iPad 3 main selling point, as it's overkill for an 'S' model upgrade)
-HD front camera, 5/8MP rear.

I waaaaant to knooooow

The additional thickness = 0.039370079 inches. Love how everyone is saying this is so bad and not like Apple!

Like a few others here I'm more than ready for iPad3 since I still have and use iPad1 …. never did get iPad2. Besides the retina screen I hope the new one will have more flash memory available.

Uh yea. Or 1mm. Yes, the increase is negligible. (Love how you assume this is an instant deal breaker and people will die in shock) The fact is the reason for the increase in thickness, not the fact that it is thicker.

I lean a bit more toward the technical and software-feature side of my wishlists...could really care less if it is .0001 inches thicker or the case is made of some plastic that is 4% better for dolphins.

My wishes (compared to the iPad 2):

-higher screen rez
-more software features/improvements...especially around photos, iPhoto synching, and using the iPad as a digital frame
-stereo/better speakers
-faster CPU and GPU
-(this will take years I am sure) USB 3.0 support so I don't have to spend forever synching 100 mp3s @ 10MB per song
-better video resolution if Apple is to truly wish to make this some kind of video "phone" of the future...ditto for Facetime...pretty flaky
-better insight into what is truly "running" and sucking up cpu/memory. Needs a kind of Task List so I can pick and choose an app and kill it/shut it down gracefully. Current method is unknown to 99.999% of consumers and is not a great UI.
-better/more printer support
-ability to save ALL email attachments (PDF, MP3, Pictures, etc) into some kind of Email Attachments folder or similar. I am so sick of opening a PDF, reading it, then when I want to go view it again later, I have to go back to the email system, find the right email, open it up again, etc.

To your comment on the SGT: why did you make this point? It has nothing to do with the iPad 3 nor is relevant to anything else you wrote in this post. I award you no points.

Of course it's relevant: it proves every tablet except the iPad is garbage. If other tablets are just as good as the iPad, then they should connect effortlessly to ANY system, including Macs, without the need for special software

How about thinking first before blindly attacking posters? There is freedom of opinion after all. Just because it's not what YOU want to hear doesn't mean it's an invalid opinion.

And I could care less if you gave me points or not; I simply don't give a damn.

Your single experience with 1 non-Apple tablet is PROOF (factual, not opinion) that ALL other non-Apple tablets are garbage? Where do we even begin to discredit your comment?

Your OPINION may be that you dislike the STG...but don't start using words (like "proves" and "all") to make your opinion seem like cold hard facts.

And by the way, let me know how your iPad is connecting to your Mac without any "special software". Last time I checked you needed a bloatware app called iTunes on the Mac or PC to "do anything" with an iPad (such as synching). And also let us know how you are using your iPad with Linux and VAX/VMS systems since all tablets should effortlessly connect with "any system"

Sheeeeeeeez.

Wow, the Micro$haft apologists are out in full force today. As others have pointed out in these forums, if you don't like Apple why come here? Troll much?

I just hope whatever new innovations they put in they patent the hell out of it so no scum sheep can copy and claim they are better. Don't mean to sound like a fanboy but the competitors really are scum when it comes to forgery.

Man you do sound like a fanboy. I met a fanboy once and he talked just like that. It's uncanny! Say something else.

I wonder if the ipad3 will be an LTE tablet. The first LTE apple device?

That will really make me want to upgrade.

I WANT PEN-INPUT like with the tablet convertible PCs!

That would be so big for all students, but also for scientists and other people in all kinds of jobs! They could sell 100 Million per year at least if they included a "digitizer".

Buy a stylus? I think there are some pen (writing) input based apps available, so there is nothing preventing someone from writing a “pen-based” app.... those without a pen can just use their finger.....

Maybe you just suck at sarcasm?

Maybe I do, maybe I do.. But I highly doubt that for many reason I wish not to discuss for the sake of time my friend.

I would advise you to read through this thread a bit and you can see both my sense of sarcasm and my use of the infamous  emoticon to make sure the OP understood my intentions, but still no luck.

Have a look and judge for yourself. Keep in mind that is one of a dozen threads that I could probably find.

Just NO! Any capacitive stylus sucks, it is NO comparison in reaction time, accuracy (they're just huge at the tip and non-precise)
Go ahead and use a Lenovo X2**T or a Fujitsu T901 i.e. and you'll know what I mean! It's like writing on paper, it's great.
The iPad just needs this! It would replace real notebooks, sheets of papers that cause a clutter in meetings, in the lab, in school classes...

I hope so. I've been holding off since the first iPad to get the third version.

Same here... it took me everything to not buy the iPad 2... patiently waiting for the iPad 3!!! I really hope it's not thicker... that would suck.

Three features I wish the iPad had but know will never happen:

-Better stylus operability. I have a stylus for my iPad, but it's still to thick for proper handwriting/art input. It's the size of a pencil eraser; I'd prefer the size of a pencil point.

-Recognize different levels of pressure
It was also my dream feature for a while. Looks like our prayers may have been answered. Cregle iPen
-SD card slot so I can have more storage
You and I both, brother. You and I both.

The GarageBand app doesn't know how hard your tapping the screen - it measures how much the iPad moves when you hit it.
Yes, it does. It measures (with accelerometer) the amount of force that is exerted on the device at the time the touch input is registered. It certainly is not pressure sensitive though.

Are you sure its not done by the coverage of the surface area of your finger?
Nope.

i'm pretty sure the gyroscope sensers how much the ipad moves when hit, and changes the sound in garageband accordingly.
not 100%, but i remember reading it somewhere :)
That is incorrect. I have GarageBand on an iPhone 3Gs, which has no gyroscope, and yet the technique still works like a charm. The accelerometer does the sensing.
