IMO it's a little weird to see an iDevice get thicker. Should be interesting to see whether Asus can cram a quad-core and full HD display into the same shell that the Prime has (which is thinner than the iPad 2).

No, I'm not an Android fanboi and don't own any Android products. Just curious to see who can win the "thin" battle this year, which admittedly is a very small component of a tablet's value.

I wouldn't be so bothered about the thickness. The weight would be more of an issue IMO. It'd be interesting to see how much heavier the iPad 3 will be vs the iPad 2.

it could be a few mm thicker, as long as it was lighter I would be fine with it

Relax guys... they're just showing the results. i mean i don't remember seeing someone measure the ipad 3 casing any where else?

Good Job. But this won't stop me from buying the next ipad :) as long as it has the Retina Display. :D

You won't see it. You would never have know if it wasn't for these articles.

Will it be safe to keep our current iPad 2 cases if this is only 0.8mm thicker? Would leather/folio cases accept the extra thickness?

Still a lot thinner than the iPad 1

According to http://www.isuppli.com/Teardowns/Ne...n-Reveals-the-iPad2s-Weight-Loss-Secrets.aspx, the original iPad is 13.4mm thick. This means that the rumoured iPad 3 is still 29% thinner than the original iPad.

I have an iPad 1, and I've certainly never though, "gee, this thing is too thick". I'd rather see it get thicker to maintain battery life than get thinner and sacrifice battery life.

so did you not read the article? because it links to a website that posted the photos first... and the photos weren't taken by MacRumors.

With Steve still around this would not have happened :[ iPhone 4S wouldn't have worse battery life than the predecessor, iPad 3 wouldn't be fatter than its predecessors. :(

Looks like "iPad 3" will actually be called "iPad jumbo",
and iPad 2 will be renamed "iPad mini".

Good!

Personally, I thought the iPad 2 was too thin. I like my electronics to have some heft and structure. Good move apple! Hope there's a bigger battery. :D

yeah you think steve wasn't an integral part of iPhone 4S, iPhone 6, and iPad 3 designs....?

It's not like apple just designed the iPad 3 last week. It's probably been around before the iPad 2 even went on sale.

It's such a tiny different that it doesn't really matter. I think I read somewhere that the iPhone 3G was thicker than the original iPhone anyway, and no one cared.

It's not like it's a MacBook Air, which people buy for thinness above all other specs, it's a tiny detail change in the overall experience.

Most people here seem to think Thinness < Retina Display anyway. :)
