Apple wont release V3, 3-4 month after V2 and fool all customers bought V2.
Marketing wise that makes no sense to me.

Even if this was the case, how are Apple fooling anyone? V2 as you call it wouldn't stop working or be redundant in 4 months after it's launch, so what's the problem?

I'd be quite happy to see Apple moving towards regular refreshes. The one phone a year cycle needs to change immediately in my book. Apple needs to have a range, not one model.

An annual upgrade cycle attracts bigger press and more people will upgrade. A bi-annual upgrade becomes a "so what?" event, and not Apple's style at all.

Do a major press event for the x.0 releases and then do a quite release for the x.5 release. This is not that difficult to do. Apple does this all the time with their Mac announcements.

New features and technologies take longer than six months to develop and test properly.

Do you honestly think that Apple didn't start iPhone 4 development long before they released iPhone 3GS? Yes, doing a new product takes a lot longer than six months. That's why Apple has multiple teams working on multiple versions of products simultaneously.

I sure see the advantage of having always more up2date hardware .... but that probably means I will have to skip every other iPad since I can't justifying buying 2 each year ...

Anyway, this is just a 'thought' without any true base to it, so it is probably not happening. If it happens, oh well, I will have an outdated model for half a year and will still enjoy it :)

One of the great strengths of the Android Model is availability more up-to-date hardware, so this may be the only way Apple can respond to the impending slaughter.

Don't know if it will work though.

The other 'great' thing Android has going for it is having a company scrambling to give their OS away for free to anyone they can in a desperate attempt to grab market-share off Apple's superior business and product model.

Don't know if it will work though.

Since when has apple ever been quick to update their lines. Sure we got a little spoiled with the annual iPhone update and at times the iPod got some love semi-regularly.

This however makes no sense, first why would people go out and buy an iPad 2 when the iPad 3 will replace it. Secondly there's costs associated to developing the iPad 2, and setting up manufacturing. Why go through those expenses when its only going to occur for a couple of months.

If however apple opts to go with a "HD" version of the iPad, that's identical to the iPad 2, except for its resolution, perhaps that makes sense but when would they announce it? With the iPad 2, or later in the year and risk pissing off customers who wanted that but opted for the iPad 2

If we are going to speculate, why not speculate that Apple might just delay the release of the iPad 2 to june, and simply launch iPhone 5 and iPad 2 together with iOS5... It would make more sense to just delay release by 2 months, and reboot the iPads release schedule to match the iPhone's. It would also mean that every new iPad will have a new version of iOS, and will not have to wait 6 months for a new iPhone with a new iOS to get an update...

And the new iPad would still arrive before some of the competitors that are aiming for a summer release...

I agree - doesn't make too much sense.

Apple is know not know for rapid updates with features that are just added on because it can be done. They usually take their time to do it right so that it works smooth. People that have featureitis need to go somewhere else, I prefer rather less features, but those working great.

I hope Apple takes it time and does things right - I will buy the new iPad every year. If features are rushed out on a 6 month cycle, I am afraid that the quality will take a hit.

LOL this will hurt the sales of iPad2...

Apple's Macbook and Macbook Pro line is released on about a 6 month schedule. It hasn't hurt their sales. The iPad is more like a computer than the other iOS devices so it is possible that they plan to give it more regular updates similar to the Mac line. A 6 month schedule would be good in my opinion. Maybe not for those with ego problems that simply have to have the latest and greatest at all times but can't really afford it on a faster release schedule. But for everyone else, it gives you more opportunity to grab a more recent device whenever the need arrives.

It's an interesting theory. Apple enjoy such long update cycles on their iPhone and iPod Touch because there is no one out there like it. Even if their hardware isn't always the most superior, no one can rival them.

But the iPad is getting a million rivals, and fast. Not necessarily better machines, but for sure better hardware and some cool features. How can Apple enjoy a 1+ year product cycle in these times on such a hotly pursued device?

This all means good news for us consumers (finally).

What the? That would be so strange to release a new version of an expensive product 6 months after the iPad 2. Why take a year to slightly bump the specs and then 6 months for what, a retina display? This makes no sense.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this but is it possible that this could refer to a smaller version of the iPad 2? Then refreshing the iPad 3 the following year?

If not, this could be just a way to fix the release dates to align with the iPods like the source said. I kind of expect to see the same thing happen with the iPhones this June. Because it would be counterproductive (not to mention "un-Apple-like") to release an iPhone 5 to AT&T and keep the iPhone 4 for Verizon.

Just the same for the iPad, why stagger the releases of different models (bigger and smaller?) to different ends of the year?

discuss...

No way they will put a product out for only 6 months. Especially when it costs >$500. Remember when the original iPhone came out and just the fact that Apple dropped the price by $200 pissed people off and Apple offered partial REFUNDS!

So, I can't imagine they would stray from their 1 year cycle too much. People want their >$500 gadget to be the newest for at least a year!

Perhaps Not So Bad

Maybe, just maybe, this is the iPad that everyone has been demanding for the iminent release (iPad2) - the cameras, the speaker upgrade, retina display (of some kind) etc etc...

But instead, the iPad that is predicted to be released this spring could merely be an internal specs increase + the potential of a Verison CDMA version. Think of it as just an "update".

Which would then leave several months for Apple to release a screaming new and even remodeled version, thinner and lighter with the specs that were released on the old iPad, both GSM & CDMA, and all the goodies that has been rumoured and desiered for so long.

Just a thought. And really nothing to be annoyed or pleased about really, just another thought from someone else in the world. The next iPad will be pretty good, and the one after probably just that bit better. When ever they come, and however they are released is fine by me.

(But do hurry up, I want an iPad, damnit! :D)

'Desperate' being the operative word. And what happens if Google finds its Android business model no longer makes sense? They've LOSING money on it all along - it already makes no intrinsic sense. The only reason they created the Android OS was so no one else would create a platform that locked their (lucrative) search business out of the mobile arena. But some vendors are tweaking Android to do just that!

If Google decides Android is no longer serving its purpose, they'll sell off the platform. Probably to Microsoft. Who will then run it straight into the ground.

That's a far more likely outcome than Android 'destroying' Apple's mobile juggernaught. What a pathetic, idiotic clownboy projection THAT is.

Come on. Apple has the resources to make a retina screen on the iPad right now. If it has to take until September for prouduction, than so be it. Releasing iPad 2 and then iPad 3 so close just doesn't make any sense. iPad 2 should have retina.

"Give iPad 4 this holiday season"...

My thoughts exactly. This makes NO sense. I was getting all excited about the iPad 2- now i'm wondering if I should wait. OH THE DRAMA! lol!

I agree for the most part. It will probably come out as expected though, April-ish. But another major release in Sept, just 5 months away? I call bulls**t on that.
