I honestly dont think there is enough flash memory in the world. Apple is already the biggest flash buyer and there have been talk of shortages. To double it, I don't think apple could even if they wanted to.

Sorry, not true. Nice try at a rationalization, though. Silver star for you.
Enjoy the limited storage, forbidden expandable storage SD slot and carrier data caps.
Magic. :apple:

The only problem with going up to 256GB memory is how will they price it? That kind of memory as fast non-moving drive space is still one heck of a cost to attempt to keep a similar pricing structure. Still, it would be interesting to sneak in a 128GB as a top model while keeping the same pricing tiers.

I would be pretty happy if they decided to make 32GB the new low and 64GB as mid tier. When I went to the 32 iPad2, that seemed to be my sweet spot. I'd never go down from that in an upgrade.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A405)

I thought apple would try to blow us away with this update and keep the prices the same. iPad is dominating but other companies are getting very aggressive with pricing.

also with specs wich are already alot above the ipad 2. Although the ipad 2 still beats them, they come closer, and fast.

Just a Rumor. 128GB Model Still Possible At A Premium Price

One less reason for me to upgrade my iPad 1. :(

I presently have the 64 gb model, w/3G, and was hoping for one w/128 gb.
So why should you believe this rumor? I know 64 is not enough. And with all the larger Hi-Res assets, even 128 will not be enough in no time. I think a 128GB model is still likely. If the iPhone 4S has a 64GB top, the only thing keeping a 128GB iPad off the market would be a 64GB module shortage. Since Apple has planned for these modules to be ready, I believe, albeit in short supply, Apple will offer a 128GB iPad 3. We might have to wait longer to get one. But I am personally willing to pay $999 even $1099, or more if necessary, for one. :) I think there are millions like me also willing to pay any price Apple deems necessary for a 128GB model.

Why won't the new lineup be 32/64/128 ?

Please Apple: give us a 128GB model AT ANY PRICE.

Mr. X says no 128gb. Its confirmed already. Mr. X from 9to5mac never has been wrong ive heard :(

Apple knows how it's bread is buttered... They will prob release the 128GB in the 4-5 versions, why should they spend more on space? Just because we want it. They're a business

We'll see if it's worth the specs.
Rivals can't wait for this too.

yeah they are already waiting. And when its announced, they begin designing ^^
i really hope it uses the newest gpu, cpu to kick all competitors ass for the next 12 months :D

If they keep the high resolution version at the same entry cost of $499 I will buy one. I hate the iphone (small screen) and I hate the way Apple attacks Android but Apple does have a good tablet product and it's becoming a universal standard. I would respect Apple more if they take their battles to the market place and not to the courts with their competitors.
This is off topic but why not create 2 iphone models? Keep the 3.5 inch version and then release a larger 4.0 to 4.5 inch model with exactly the same resolution, software version, internal specs and price. Let the consumer decide what's too big and what's too small. The trade off with the larger model would be a lower dpi rating and it would be bigger. If Apple wants to capture Android phone users that would be the ticket for me and it would keep current 3.5 users happy. Is that so difficult to ask for?

And because they are a business they always know what's right for them? Then no business would go bust and no business would mess up. They should take his now without jobs because I think it's not in their collective memory anymore that they were 90 days from bankruptcy.

When retina display gfx and the tons of space requirements for such a convergent device make the 32gb model a joke, let alone the 16gb one, and Samsung is right around the corner with a 11.6 retina display for q2-q3 tablet release, as well as all the people that despise apple are waiting on the corner for them, as well as google inclined folk, and quite a few unhappy devs/publishers and the like, it's not a stretch of the imagination at all that they are going to be very hurt indeed by people opting for an alternative because they wanted to maintain their margins and opted to spend boatloads of money on lawyering up pretty much against anyone, instead of adding a few more crucial gbs of space...

They certainly can't claim their users, and not their apologists, didn't forewarn them... Google has some very capable and imaginative people developing for android and Samsung has some very capable hardware people, they are both no Microsoft run by this colossal moron Balmer, and they are around the corner, on the other hand apple keeps cutting corners nowadays and seems more interested in its pr and lawyers than cutting their margins a tad to cater to their users real needs... Amazon witht its tons of contents is also around the corner...If they 've indeed been dumb enough to start from 16gbs just to save a few $$ per device, they have very gusty **** storm winds about to be released on them...

Not really. Go on a week-long trip and you can easily go above that with movies. I like to keep all my apps, magazines and books on the iPad for reference if nothing else. I have also been away for up to a month with no Internet access.

I will be disappointed if there is no increase in storage space, but I'll still buy the iPad 3 to replace my original iPad.

Better idea. Go on a week long trip and do something besides watch movies.

My my, such anger and indignation!!! :D

But you seem to speak from both sides of your mouth because Amazon's Kindle Fire which you tout "witht its tons of conents" [sic] only has 8GB of storage.

Jobs was the spiritual leader at Apple, but he wasn't the only guy present at the start of the iOS revolution. Apple has one of the finest management teams in the world. The 16/32/64 storage models will sell just fine. The only storm that will be present is the one futher blowing Android tabs closer to the margins' ultimate edge (Samsung admits sales are poor).

The reality is the man and woman on the street don't clutter up their devices with apps they never use or songs or movies they never listen to or watch. Some apps will expand in size b/c of Retina, sure, but we've been here before with the iPhone 4. It's not that significant if you manage your iOS device and developers code efficiently.

Sure 128GB would be great for the 64GB price but obviously Apple couldn't swing that deal w/ suppliers and isn't going add another model (too many already) or jack up the price to the point a iPad costs as much as an Air.

They don't have LTE on planes over the Pacific. So people like me who travel like as much capacity as possible to carry as much local media as possible.

If you really truly cannot live with 64 GB of content to distract you enough from reality, I suggest getting a tiny AirStash and 64 GB SD card. 99% of the time you'll never need it, but when u do you can connect directly to the AirStash without internetz for double the content.

And yes I take issue with people who travel and spend the entire time watching movies on their iPad. Its sad.

I don't get why LTE is a big deal, or even any deal at all. With 3GB per month plan, that thing is useless. What are you going to do for the remaining 29 days?

You're missing the point. Having LTE does not mean that you will or should use more data. It means that the data you normally use will be faster. I would think most people will still try and use WiFi where possible.

Because the folks at Apple don't understand the competition and are mindlessly going for short-term profits?

Quoted for truth. If you look at this thread, every rational post relating to 128 GB is voted down considerably. This is because of the simple fact: the kind of people who troll these forums are the EXACT kind of people who think they're supposed to put their entire media collection on their mobile device, as it they'll never return home or to wifi again. Those people irritate me.
They don't listen to intelligent discussion, because all they want to hear is "more space, more space!"

Riddle me this captain. If I live in an area with LTE coverage and got over 20 Mbps down all the time, why would I ever care about wifi?

What's wrong with wanting a large chunk of our media on our iPads? That would mean that if I were visiting a friend, I could say, "Hey, you've never seen [some ep of a tv show that I'd think they'd like], check it out!" or something.

I'm a little glad that there isn't a 128 gig version because I just saved some money by not upgrading, but mainly I'm bummed because it takes my dream of a 2 TB iPad and pushes it that much further into the future.

Yeah, travelers could use more memory. I have 32g and it is a juggling act. It is not that easy to find WiFi at times and if you do, it is so slow that you need several hours to download a movie. Photos, maps, books, apps, gps - all needed. I don't know what I would do without an iPad while traveling.

I'll be going for the 64g this time, I wish it was more.

Also, what I'd like is a 128 gb iPhone so I could get rid of my iPod and that's not going to happen until the iPad has that much space.

LOL. a 4gb ipad is enough. you only listen to 1 song at the time. 2 at the time doesnt work. space for 5 apps, and 1 compressed movie. After all, youre returning home anyways right?
What a stopid argument ^^
I want 128gb because my ipad is a kind of desktop replacement for me. Love taking it everywhere and working and gaming on it everywhere.

You are vastly distorting the poster's comment. Human nature has the avg person attached to a group of favorite song - maybe 200, but even 3x that to the extreme would only take up 10GBs. And while it's quite common for people to own 10 to 20x as many songs as that it would literally take weeks to listen to every song in a collection that size. So it's as practical to carry around all those songs every day as it is to travel with your entire wardrobe.

Same goes for apps. Most people have 10 go-to apps, maybe another 20 sometimes apps, and then another 20 once in a while apps. And with apps, if something is missing and needed that minute you can easily re-download direct to your device.

The oxymoron of the week. :D

Ironically, Apple will soon need to get off its high horse and obey simple laws governing consumer driven economics by heeding the demands of those that fill its coffers.

This exclusive "gap" they enjoy now in the tablet market will one day close. (Like all gaps eventually do). The other tablet survivalists have been throwing a lot of excrement at the proverbial wall and some if it will actually start to stick as Windows 8 gets closer.

Those in denial please feel free to neg away. (I got you off to a good start by negging myself)
