According to one analyst, Apple will be delivering a double resolution Retina Display to the iPad 3.
Kuo now claims that iPad 3 will deliver a Retina Display-like quality and resolution doubling to 2048x1536, an enhancement originally thought to make it into the more immediate release of iPad 2.
The iPad 2 has not even shipped yet, but The Wall Street Journal has said the 2nd generation iPad will not get a retina display. Instead, it's believed the iPad 2 will offer a thinner and anti-reflective screen for better viewing in sunlight.

Depending on who you believe, the iPad 3 may arrive as early as this September, accelerating Apple's iPad release timeframe from a 1 year to 6 month delivery schedule. Another analyst has also predicted a true Retina Display for the 3rd generation iPad, but he pegged its release in 2012.

Meanwhile, the iPad 2 is widely expected to be released by April.

The only way the iPad will move to a September launch is if Apple goes a year and a half between iPads. They aren't going to turn around and release a new one 6 months later when the 2nd gen is going to be selling faster than the original.

iPad 4

According to several analysts, iPad 4 will have a higher screen resolution than iPad 3!
Another analyst says it will even have more memory.

How about a moratorium on iPad 3+ rumors until iPad 2 is released.

Don't get me wrong, I like rumors, but these ones really kill me....slowly.

In related news, the iPad 8 will feature a holodeck display, as well as the new Johnny 5 app that will be your bestest friend... because it's never too early to plan the next version. :p

I think iPad 3 rumors were spurred on by the "lack of" retina display on the iPad 2 by people who want the retina display. Releasing a new iPad 3 just a few months later would infuriate iPad 2 buyers. And plus, I don't see any reason why Apple would want to rush out a new product so fast, its not like they're not already at the top of their market right now. One reason why I buy an Apple product when its first released is because I know I'll have the satisfaction of knowing my device isn't outdated within 6 months.

Slow news day? An analyst claims that the iPad will have retina display?

Okay then, I'm an analyst.

iPad 2 will have retina display, two month battery, dual-hexacore i7 processor, storage sizes of 500gb or 1 tb and 32 gb of ram. Please put this on the front page?

Suits me nicely. Had no intention of discarding my iPad for next model but the ipad3 will be a nice upgrade mid 2012.
Present iPad is still a terrific piece of kit

Thank you.

Even Steve Jobs doesn't know what the resolution of the iPad 3 will be.

This is a bit premature...

...but if iPad really does ship with a display like that, hopefully we'll see higher resolution, lower cost Cinema Displays also. Oh, and while I'm dreaming, an option to get one without reflecto-vision. :)

A Retina display for iPad 3 makes more sense, as by then (2012 as I see it), suitable GPU's are expected to be available, judging by the announcements in Barcelona, one year will provide a significant leap in processors power. I don't think there are current suitable GPU's to drive all of available apps at 2048x1536...

iPad 1, slow, just endend, worldwide roll out, makes it highly improbable in my view to expect an iPad 3 6 months after iPad 2... seems crazy for people to be expecting a september iPad 3, when iPad 2 isnt here and who knows when and how long its roll out will be.

The fact that we're already getting iPad 3 rumors at this rate seems odd if we're to believe that the it's release date is to be released next year. September 2011 along with the iPod refresh is my guess - maybe as a "One more thing" type deal.

Well, they need to do something about the glare on the iPad. I can't stand that shiny screen reflecting every light source back into my eyes. It's iPad Zero for me, until that's fixed.

I'm Motorola or HP or Samsung or RIM:

Flood the internet with false rumors and speculation about a new, even better iPad just 6 months from now, before iPad 2 is even released. As a side note, attempt to legitimize the 5"-7" tablet factor as something Apple will do in the near future.

...

I'm beginning to think that this recent wave of unsubstantiated rumors is an elaborate disinfo campaign from panicky competitors, most likely designed to buy them some much needed time.

A new iPad every 6 months is impossible. Apple will probably stick to the 1 year cycle.
Anyway the iOS operating system already supports iPad retina images, so sooner or later the iPad will have a retina display.
Being a developer I have to buy an iPad 2 for app testing but If i was a user with a first gen iPad, I'd probably wait for the retina display, whatever iPad version will have it.

And it's rumored that the iPhone 6 will have more features and better specs than the iPhone 5! Don't buy the i5, it's obsolete already. Why does Apple make stuff I haven't even bought yet so utterly worthless!! My money is wasted!!! :p

iPad 2 without current resolution in April
iPad 3 with double resolution in September

Way to make sure NO-ONE buys iPad 2....

I'm still hoping beyond any reason that talk of iPad 3 is just smoke and mirrors and Apple might surprise us with a double resolution iPad 2!! I can but hope... ;)

Besides a front camera the most important thing the iPad 2 must have is an improve CPU/GPU combo, since most concurrents that will finally see market this year (they say) will have multi-core CPU, around the middle of the year some even say 4-core CPU and 2xGPU.
