Excuse you?!
iPad 2???
Sorry where can I get those specs? Oh yeah... speculation.
Lets look at current standings... the current Apple alternative as of right now, and surely next week, when the Xoom drops=
1 Ghz Single core Apple A4, 256 MB RAM, 1024x768 9.7 inch (weird display ratio) screen, 3G capable, 32GB storage, NO CAMERAS at $729
VS.
$799= as mentioned previous, 1ghz Dual-Core Nvidia Tegra, 1 GB RAM, 10.1 inch Widescreen @ 1200x800, 4G capable (= higher than 3G in case not clear), 32GB storage, 2MP front camera + 5MP rear camera (with video recording at 720P)
Maybe I missed something though and iPad 2 has been announced?? If so, link please?!
I am talking pure specs, the merits of each OS can be debated till the cows come home, but be serious, in terms of hardware Apple are the ones lagging.
And as mentioned... because of the frightening pace at which the industry is accelerating, the iPad 2 is pretty much confirmed to be surpassed yet again by autumn 2011, with the arrival of Tegra 3...unless Apple goes with Tegra 3. and releases an iPad 3 around 4-5 months after iPad 2.
Wonder how long till Apple adopt the Tegra platform.. will it be another PowerPC saga?

** Also I would like to draw your attention to one simple, but important thing another commenter noted on the various corps's pricing strategies:
Apple is pretty much the only company that comes out with a product at price Y, and maintains it till the release of their subsequent updated product.
Pretty much all other companies, start high, and therefore manage demand while product supplies are low, and then steadily decrease prices over time.
So you have the 32 GB wifi + 3G iPad still selling at $729, same as launch day, a year later. Or Macbook Pros whose parts have fallen significantly in price since launch, still retailing at the same prices, a year later etc.
Whilst the Galaxy Tab for example came out at $799, but is now available most places for $499.
Xoom specs are only slightly better than iPad 2, the slightly better meaning the higher res display, and 5MP camera.
however the Xoom $150 more expensive than the ipad 2.
I think the iPad 2 will win because $800 gets you a high-end laptop.
