I'm Motorola or HP or Samsung or RIM:

Flood the internet with false rumors and speculation about a new, even better iPad just 6 months from now, before iPad 2 is even released. As a side note, attempt to legitimize the 5"-7" tablet factor as something Apple will do in the near future.

...

I'm beginning to think that this recent wave of unsubstantiated rumors is an elaborate disinfo campaign from panicky competitors, most likely designed to buy them some much needed time.

One more reason to leave iPad3 alone until iPad2 is in our sweaty little hands. I trust these rumors about a much as someone saying the 2013 Philadelphia Eagles will win Superbowl XLIX. Who has the time machine?

Makes sense to me. We know Apple likes a yearly cycle, but they also want a big Christmas selling season. To do that you have to move to a September release one of these years, and then go yearly from then on. With all the hype about Android tablets, 2011 would be the perfect year to do the one-time 6-month cycle.

The iPad 2 will be about massive storage upgrade, more RAM and quite a bit of processing power. There will also be software upgrades, some will port to the iPad Prime, others will not due to RAM limitations.

The iPad 3 will be about display quality.

The way you make these predictions is, look at what new hardware has become less expensive, look at what the company has put into other recent products and look at company history.

Large flash drives are getting cheaper, Apple has been doing cool things with Flash memory in the MBA. Supplies of high quality touch displays remain constrained. They should be much better when the 3 hits the market. There are limits to how much they can upgrade the origional iPad software due to memory limitations, thus, they can make a big iOS upgrade fir the 3 that would be a big reason for people to move to the new platform.

It is not that hard.

Slow news day? An analyst claims that the iPad will have retina display?

Okay then, I'm an analyst.

iPad 2 will have retina display, two month battery, dual-hexacore i7 processor, storage sizes of 500gb or 1 tb and 32 gb of ram. Please put this on the front page?

Exactly. Every1 in this forum could be called an analyst.

Unbelievable! The iPad 2 has yet to be even announced, much less released and already there is speculation (guessumation) on the iPad 3. Please, lets also hear analyst's speculation on the iPad 4 and 5 while were at it. I'm sure Apple will be looking at cost effective ways to increase the resolution of the screen (not that the current iPad has poor resolution) as well as many other features including faster processors.

Pretty much most people on this sight spend more time thinking about Apple products than any stock analyst does.

Just a thought, maybe iPad 2 & 3 will come out in April: iPad 2 and iPad 2 Pro! There were some clues from iOS 4.3 betas for both retina and no retina. We are hearing enhanced a4 and dual core a5. Maybe iPad 1 will be tweaked to have cameras like the iPod touch and enhanced a4 chip. iPad 2 may get better cameras, a5, better display. iPad 2 pro get retina and a5. Clues from suppliers, iOS betas, etc, I think we will see them all in April!

It seems logical to me.

iPad 2 comes out March/April with a CPU/GPU and ram upgrade for $499 and up

iPad 3 (but really more like 2.5) comes out in September with a double resolution screen for $799 or more

iPad 2 and 3 get announced at the same time, just like the WiFi and 3G models with staggered release dates.

A lot of people would still consider which way to go if the price was not equal. And then by September 2012 the price of the screen can drop to a level that it is affordable on all models of iPad 4.

And Android/webOS/Playbook go back to the drawing board. (And meanwhile Apple has negotiated screen contracts that make it impossible for anyone else to play ball in the high resolution screen space.)

You know, if I was Apple, I would seriously want to put out some announcement to kill off the idea of an iPad3 this fall, if it's not true.

It's not heading towards March, and it won't be long till the hot weather starts appearing and people start thinking of summer holidays etc etc.

If you have an iPad1 and iPad2 is, as we think just a tidy up, this type of new story could easily make many people wait till the fall before their next upgrade.

Not just techies, as techies who read this, and it's actually been in some papers also, will pass this info onto other non techies too.

I'm not saying it's going to ruin the iPad2 launch, but it's not going to do it any good and can only be a negative.

If people do hold off iPad2 due to this, then it also allows more time for Android/Honeycomb tablets to been seen by people during the waiting period.

As I say, if it's not true, I'd think Apple should, even if it's sneeked out, kill this story.

I'm glad I got the iPad 1G, even if it was toward the end of the year. I'd rather enjoy it now than keep on waiting and hoping for a higher resolution iPad from Apple.

Quite frankly, Apple must think the fanboys will eat up anything if they release a second gen. 9.7" iPad without a Retina Display. Here's hoping the third generation is much, much better.

If they do release it w/o the enhanced display, I think it will be remembered as the iPad 1.5 ®.

Only the TRUE iPad 2 will have a 2048 X 1536 display. Anything else is just a delay until the real iPad 2 comes out.

If it comes out with twice the RAM, twice the CPU and GPU and a half a Terabyte of Flash drive, it will be the iPad 2.

I want it in 2nd gen!! I don't want a non-retina display iPad, having an iPhone 4!
And don't want to wait another year... :(

Oh marketing...

I can only see one strong argument for Apple moving the iPad annual update to the fall:

If they insist on using the iPhone as the showcase platform, meaning it gets all the goodies first - better processor, better graphics, newest iOS, etc and it stays with a June launch, the iPad would perpetually be a generation behind with updates 10 months afterwards.

If this year they do something to shift the annual updates to between Aug and Oct, then all the iOS devices will be more in sync.

This is of course assuming they want the products in sync and want to maintain a fixed annual update cycle.

As for iPad 3 rumors - I agree with everyone that says 'lets not get into discussing a product that will come after a yet to be announced product'.

Tell me if you think I'm crazy...

Could these iPad 3 rumours – about it coming out this year, only months after the iPad 2 – be part of some Machiavellian business move by Apple's competitors? It would certainly make a lot of people think twice about buying the new iPad when it comes out.

I just don't see Apple doing this. I don't feel as though the tablet market is mature enough to warrant diversifying their line. There just aren't many DIFFERENT "use cases" for a tablet quite yet. The exploration of different form factors for the iPod made sense; small one for the gym, big one for all the music, another one for gaming, and most importantly they are inexpensive enough that the fans might buy multiple. There are a few different MacBooks, but everyone has their favourite laptop and when your hand isn't involved, scaling the OS for the different resolutions is no big deal.

Of course there will be an iPad 3, but I think that's next year's iPad and of course it will be nicer than iPad 2... but now, because of these rumours, I might think twice about buying iPad 2.

This is nonsense. New ipods come out in sept., if the ipad follows witha april launch, that leaves only 5 months in between models. They would have released ipad 2 by now, even if it only just had a built in camera.

Or could these rumors be fed from Apple's own marketing? If 1 million customers decide to wait and not buy because of all these rumors, it would put a medium sized dent in Apple's sales... and nearly completely wipe out the total sales of all other competing tablet makers combined.

According to several analysts, iPad 4 will have a higher screen resolution than iPad 3!
Another analyst says it will even have more memory.

How about a moratorium on iPad 3+ rumors until iPad 2 is released.

Don't get me wrong, I like rumors, but these ones really kill me....slowly.

will Any future iPad Ever have flash, like tablets in the non-Apple world?
