Anti-reflective screen?

Dare I hope this would signal the end of Apple's love of shinny glare screens?

Well, they need to do something about the glare on the iPad. I can't stand that shiny screen reflecting every light source back into my eyes. It's iPad Zero for me, until that's fixed.

Adding anti-glare film works wonders. Even prevents fingerprints from immediately messing up the display.

I like Power Support's anti-glare version, even though it's around $35.

The initial cost of a tablet is usually just the beginning of the expense... grin... then you have to add screen shields, cases, dock, car power, etc, all of which can add up!

It's getting a bit silly now isn't it? Really?

Until I see an iPad 2 in the shops with an Apple poster telling me what it'll do I'm not gonna believe anything about it or any other version of iPad.

For every Apple employee there appears to be 10 so-called pundits telling us what Apple will be doing in the next millenium.

I'm off to read a book. Printed on paper. Somebody give me a nudge when the iPad 2 turns up.

iPad 4 and 5

Yes, if it continues, may be, we can say today that iPad 4 will have a USB support and iPad 5 will have high-definition output. So silly.

Make sure you turn it on first. Nearly all glare (everything other than light shining directly onto it) is eliminated once it's on.

iPad 5 will have 3D display?
iPad 9 to have holographic display?
iPad 12 with direct cerebral stimulation??

There's rumors, and then there's rumors.

I'm Motorola or HP or Samsung or RIM:

Flood the internet with false rumors and speculation about a new, even better iPad just 6 months from now, before iPad 2 is even released.

Amen. You gotta wonder if some companies do this to try to stifle competitors' sales - particularly when they don't have their own competitive device ready to ship yet.

mmmmm! Nothing like fresh iPad rumors on a Saturday morning. Pass the coffee and cinnamon rolls please.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

A new iPad every 6 months is impossible.

Unlikely perhaps, impossible no. Other companies pump out new product almost every month. With all of Apple's resources they could easily produce two iPads a year if they so desired.

For almost any other feature I think Apple could wait a year to upgrade the iPad. Faster processors, more memory, more storage could all wait a year. The double resolution display, however, has a short shelf life. Think of these introduction dates:

2013 catching up to the rest of the crowd
2012 quite good, but maybe someone beats them to it
2011 completely blow away the competition and generate huge positive reviews from all the pundits.

When the iPod mini was the best selling iPod in history with little competition did Apple keep selling that for a full year? No, six months after the introduction of the iPod mini 2 it was replaced by the iPod nano, partly because Steve didn't want to give the competition time to catch up.

I have no idea what will happen, but there is precedent for quick updates like this to introduce major technological changes.

I've never seen one that wasn't already on.

My experience with them has been limited to The Apple Store, and the few friends of mine that own one. None had any coating, and all reflected any light source from overhead. Most lights, and the sun, come from up there apparently.

Wow, $35 for a screen cover! And I thought my iPhone screen sheets were pricey! It would just rule to have the anti-glare screen as a factory option.

No way!

I´m sure this "rumors" are created by Apple´s competition in order to make buyers skip the iPad 2 and then they can say that the iPad 2 was a huge failure.

Media would love that kind of headlines.

I, for one, can´t wait for the iPad 2 and will be buying it day one.

It's too early to discuss about iPad 3. We even haven't got the iPad 2 yet, so most likely I will pass this rumour.

Way to make sure NO-ONE buys iPad 2....

Well, I bought a 13" MBP a year ago and skipped the iPad 1. Now I plan:

1) To buy the new 13" MBP that will arrive soon... and pass my old MBP to a friend.

2) To buy the iPad 2 for myself when it comes out.

...and when the iPad 3 comes out, I may buy that and pass my iPad 2 to a friend.

Well no iPad 2 for me then...if anything i'll get a TouchPad to tide me over till iPad 3 debuts.

The iPad 3 is making me want the iPad 2 even less. Of course after seeing the first iPad I decided to wait for the second generation. Now the money is looking better on it's own. Can't lose out on the tech cycle if you don't invest. ;)

These kind of rumors make me think that there are some unprofessional people at macrumors which eventually will make some of the readers change their rumors site...

Suits me nicely. Had no intention of discarding my iPad for next model but the ipad3 will be a nice upgrade mid 2012.
Present iPad is still a terrific piece of kit

what's a piece of kit? Did you miss-type and meant the next one will be a piece of sh**?

What about the ipad 8 ?

Also, will the ipad 5 will feature a built-in ps3 ?

too early to speculate...

If the iPad 2 doesn't have a retina display then obviously the 3 will. As for the release dates, it is too early to speculate when the 3rd generation will ship. We haven't even heard an official word from Apple yet giving us a delivery date.

Might as well just wait and see what happens when they are ready to announce the iPad 2.
