mmmmm! Nothing like fresh iPad rumors on a Saturday morning. Pass the coffee and cinnamon rolls please.

A new iPad every 6 months is impossible.
Unlikely perhaps, impossible no. Other companies pump out new product almost every month. With all of Apple's resources they could easily produce two iPads a year if they so desired.
For almost any other feature I think Apple could wait a year to upgrade the iPad. Faster processors, more memory, more storage could all wait a year. The double resolution display, however, has a short shelf life. Think of these introduction dates:
2013 catching up to the rest of the crowd
2012 quite good, but maybe someone beats them to it
2011 completely blow away the competition and generate huge positive reviews from all the pundits.
When the iPod mini was the best selling iPod in history with little competition did Apple keep selling that for a full year? No, six months after the introduction of the iPod mini 2 it was replaced by the iPod nano, partly because Steve didn't want to give the competition time to catch up.
I have no idea what will happen, but there is precedent for quick updates like this to introduce major technological changes.
