Im paralized!

OMG! I have not got an iPod yet!

I have been saving Apple Gift cards I have been asking for since LAST valentines day, birthday, xmas, etc. to buy one.

I was planning on getting an iPad2 as my first one.

Now I am PARALYZED! Maybe I should wait. One of the main things I want to do is use it as ereader and a better screen would make a huge difference.

Uuuugggh!

Thank you.

Even Steve Jobs doesn't know what the resolution of the iPad 3 will be.

I would not go that far. These products are probably designed about 6-8 months in advance, so they probably have already nailed down major details for the iPad 3.

There goes my college fund

....any NEW iPad 2 release/event date rumors?

Glad I have already an ipad so I can wait for 3 ;), oh but its going to hurt waiting for so long :D.

But if the rumor is good that is going to be one incredible looking tablet, to bad number 2 will not have it but I can wait for it.

A september release of the iPad 3 makes no sense. In Europe the iPad came out 23th of July. So 3 or 4 months later then the US release. In China it didn't came out until september.

This means that the iPad 3 would be announced before Ipad 2 is released in China and just one month after it is released in Europe.

I think that such a thing would hurt sales. ;)

Several years ago they used to talk about "resolution independence" at every WWDC.

But where is it?

iOS would have been a good chance to actually introduce it. A completely new platform without any legacy applications to support.

But now they have the same resolution problems (stay the same, double or rewrite everything) as any other mobile platform. Why?
Did they make bad compromises to have iOS on the market earlier?

Save yourself a wedge of money and buy a Kindle, as an e reader it is much, much better, for anything else buy an iPad.

Yawn . . . .

Better for you, perhaps. I (like most people) don't live on the beach or read by the pool (looks great in a commercial, but sorry, most of us don't do that). I read my books on the comfort of my couch, on the plane, in the airport, in bed. I like that I don't need a book light and, that as a reader, I can read my magazines subscriptions as well, in full living color. That is also reading, and it can't really be done well (unless you like your "Car and Driver" and "Scientific American" in 8 shades of gray. And, if I'm reading with my kids, wow, the color images in their books, they're in color too.

To each their own as they say, and the Kindle is a good, affordable reader. But "much better" is certainly a personal opinion, and poorly born out by the facts, at that.

I wondered how long it would take for a fanboy to answer.

I have both, I dont live on a beach, dont have a pool, I read on my couch and on a plane, granted subscription magazines are better on the iPad, so except the subscription bit it is much better, less eye strain, lighter and more comfortable to hold when reading a book for extended periods.

Each to his own as you say, but your patronising post isn’t born out of the facts, having both, I submit, mine will be more fact than yours, again YAWN.

?????

I'm Motorola or HP or Samsung or RIM:

Flood the internet with false rumors and speculation about a new, even better iPad just 6 months from now, before iPad 2 is even released. As a side note, attempt to legitimize the 5"-7" tablet factor as something Apple will do in the near future.

...

I'm beginning to think that this recent wave of unsubstantiated rumors is an elaborate disinfo campaign from panicky competitors, most likely designed to buy them some much needed time.

Much needed time for what?

The Motorola Xoom, which murders the only iPad on the market in specs, is in store this thursday 24 Feb at Best Buy

Specs including: 1 Ghz Dual-core Nvidia Tegra Cpu/gpu, 1 GB Ram, 32GB storage, 10.1 widescreen display @ 1200x800 resolution, 4G compatibility etc...

iPad 2 is actually rumor/vaporware at this point. Let alone bloody iPad 3.

And Nvidia recently demoed Tegra 3 aka Kal-El to journalists (quad-core cpu/12-core nvidia gpu, pushing 2560 x 1600 to an external monitor), and is on record stating that Tablets will be shipping with it by September 2011.
Apple are the ones who's hardware has to, rather characteristically, play catch-up.

Yawn . . . . again . . .

Nice elementary school answer. Anyone who differs with you MUST be a fanboy. Why don't you let one of the adults in your house post instead.

I had both too. But have since sold my Kindle because I didn't prefer the experience. The slow, black flashed, page turns, the lack of color, the lack of a light. Those are simple facts, which make it hard to say the Kindle is "much, much better". As I said, perhaps much, much better for you. But to say a "reader" that can't read the countless works that are available, both in book as well as periodical, in color is not "much, much better" for everyone. If your eyes are sensitive to reading a backlit screen, then that is a personal issue of fatigue that many of us aren't bothered by. If you read out doors a lot, the Kindle is probably for you. If you want an affordable reader and the color and slow page turns don't bother you, the Kindle is a better reader. There are admittedly ways the Kindle is a better reader - for some. But there are just as many ways the iPad is a better reader - for others.
So I have compared both directly too, (you could have bought an extra Kindle from me on eBay a few months ago). So when it comes to opinions, yours, yawn, is not more fact based. As if you are the only one who has ever owned both. Pretty funny.

Elementary school? I quote “yawn“ and “funny”, having read some of your previous posts I expected the name calling, your confrontational posts are rather childish don‘t you think? Fanboy was used in the heat of the moment I suppose, I apologise for that, the rest of my post I stand by. We will have to agree to disagree, cant see where you get the slow page turning from though, did you have the latest Kindle?

Buy from you on e bay? As if.

You did the name calling with "Fanboy" not me. The "Yawn" is applicable to a post that has been repeated time an time again by the likes of you for the simple purpose of trolling. By your own admission
"I wondered how long it would take for a fanboy to answer."
You were simply trying to stir the pot.

You quoted me as saying "yawn" and "funny". Wow, the shame. Those are not exactly inflammatory remarks. Yes, I think people calling other people on here "fanboys" is "elementary".

I had the Kindle DX. I loved it, and have a bunch of books on my iPad as a result that are stored on my Kindle App. I have not once said the Kindle is bad. I (as well as others) have found the page turns slower, and to me, obtrusive, due to the brief flicker. It wasn't a big deal, just something it didn't do as well as my iPad when I got it. Color, is certainly important to me, as I read a lot of material that is not monochromatic. As I also said, if that is not important, then the Kindle may be better for a person. I did not mention in my post, that I really like the ease of marking-up, highlighting and making notes within a book on the iPad also. The difference in my post, and your post, IMO, is that I didn't say the iPad is the best and the Kindle is worst. My point is that your opinion is just that. An opinion. Yet you state it as such a "blanket", broad-sweeping fact.
Save yourself a wedge of money and buy a Kindle, as an e reader it is much, much better
And I did state actual facts in my difference with it. No color. Low grayscale of 16 shades gray. It still flickers on page changes (although improved). These are simple facts, yet you respond to my post as if you are the only one using "facts".
your patronising post isn’t born out of the facts, having both, I submit, mine will be more fact than yours
So, as in my original post responding to yours, I again state, as a reader the Kindle may be better for some, but the iPad is better for others. It is a personal position and neither answer is wrong. It depends on the needs and likes/dislikes of the consumer for each case. Neither is "much, much better" for everyone.

I see now, I forgot the IMHO. You just have to have the last word, stirring the pot? Go back and read your posts, they are full of inflammatory remarks that are aimed at members opinions that you don‘t agree with, you are the troll, pure and simple.

As for the fanboy comment, I did apologise, but you still use it as a reference, you are a sad person.

I‘ve finished with you.

Thanks for reporting for the 20th time that some future version of the iPad may have a retina display. In other earth-shattering news, future MacBooks, iMacs and iPhones will have more features and be faster than their predecessors. That's my in-depth analysis of the bleeding obvious and I demand recognition at some point in the future when my predictions turn out to be accurate.

Apple are the ones who's hardware has to, rather characteristically, play catch-up.

Xoom specs are only slightly better than iPad 2, the slightly better meaning the higher res display, and 5MP camera.

however the Xoom $150 more expensive than the ipad 2.

I think the iPad 2 will win because $800 gets you a high-end laptop.

iPad 2 without current resolution in April
iPad 3 with double resolution in September

Way to make sure NO-ONE buys iPad 2....

I'm still hoping beyond any reason that talk of iPad 3 is just smoke and mirrors and Apple might surprise us with a double resolution iPad 2!! I can but hope... ;)

At this point, Apple cares more about making money than innovating. They had the ability to have a camera in the FIRST iPad, but didn't, so they could add it to version 2 and make more money. Same with the screen, why add TWO improvements to version 2 when they can wait and add one to version 3?

:(

This has been the case from the beginning for practically any thing that anybody has ever made. It wasn't until the fourth iPod touch that Apple FINALLY included a camera, and it was a crappy 0.7 MP one, they couldn't even put in the original 2 MP one that the original iPhone had. Fully expect them to FINALLY put a decent camera in the iPod touch 5,.

what's a piece of kit? Did you miss-type and meant the next one will be a piece of sh**?

English lesson: "kit" means a collection of things (e.g "toolkit" or "webkit"). For soldiers especially, their "kit" means all their gear.

A "piece of kit" is a piece of gear, and can refer to almost anything.

Especially in British countries, a "nice piece of kit" is a compliment.

I suppose different age groups in different parts of the world express themselves differently. Sorry if I don't speak fluent American

You're just fine.

The two posters who made fun of it should be the ones apologizing for being both ignorant and rude.
