Didn't the earlier "thicker iPad 3" rumor (last month?)say it would only be 0.7mm thicker than the iPad 2?
Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

You need to just go back a few years & see that the Macs were being outsold 19 to 1 or even higher margins. So the nicer Apple product has not always outsold it competition. Apple's legal is just one of the major parts of the Apple sales department.

What's the ratio now then?

I would of thought, PC's running windows outsell Mac's by much more than 19 - 1 even today.

(Just tried to find any article on this and one said Apple currently have 4.7% of worldwide sales)
Not sure how accurate that is.

When was the last time Apple reversed their thinking and went from slimmer to thicker? Give me a break bro!

iPhone 3G is thicker than iPhone.

So yeah it's going to happen.

Now, thickness / weight is my #1 issue with tablets. So that's bad news.
I'd rather have an XGA tablet with MBA screen-like thickness than a fat QXGA one... just my ¤,02 !

iPhone -> iPhone 3G

No 4G/LTE = backwards product

No, int'l product.
There's almost no LTE outside the US.
And no LTE outside bug cities in the US.

Apple better wait, just like with 3G.

Perhaps in the future, like MacBooks Apple may not wish to limit itself to one size/spec of tablet.

There is no reason to assume that in 10 or 20 years there will only be one tablet from Apple to select from. (with different memory/colour selections)

Like iMacs and MacBooks, there is no logical reason to feel Apple can never offer a range of Tablets, from very low power eReader type models, right up to high end powerful devices.

That's why they're losing market share to Samsung in the EU (the Galaxy S II 4G/LTE version sells extremely well at 300€ less).

And what is this..?

I just hope they make a new kind of case, more like the one for the first iPad rather than the Smart Case...

So wait a minute?!?!?!?!?

There are people that want a THINNER 17" Macbook Pro (which is supposed to be a desktop replacement) yet want a thicker/heavier iPad 3 which is supposed to be the ultimate mobile computing platform?!?!??!?

You guys and gals really are a lost cause.

I remember there being a rumor some time back that the iPad 3 would feature an IPS display with a significantly higher resolution than the iPad 2, requiring two backlights and thus increasing the thickness of the iPad. This could turn out to be verification of that.

However, that same article did mention that Apple has invested a ton of money to produce a retina display that doesn't require a dual LED backlight, thus, the thickness of the iPad could very well stay the same or decrease.

I'd definitely prefer the second scenario, but would accept the first, the most important thing to me is that my first iPad has a retina display and decent battery life.

I don't think many people WANT a thicker/heavier iPad. It's just that some people are more obsessed about the looks or a computer than the performance.

There may well be some people (probably a fair percentage) which if asked, would you like 20 hour batter life if the iPad was 4mm thicker would say yes, as for them two work days use would be seen as more important than 4mm.

That's what people here tend to forget, the world is thankfully full of a wonderful mix of people. Not all Apple Fanbois and girls, who have different ideas, views, likes, dislikes, needs, wants, desires.

Thanks god the whole world does not go around with their brain removed chanting "must buy Apple, must buy Apple"

What a terrible and dull place the world would be.

That has to be the worst, and most unconvincing prototype image, ever!?
I know Macrumors is no stranger to posting fanciful crap. But this is pushing it, even by their standards..

That picture looks like what the back of the iPad probably would have looked like if it was made in the late 90's.

I wouldn't mind thicker, but heavier, that wouldn't be a good thing.

I'd be surprised if it's much thicker, since Apple loves to make thinner and thinner devices... but if they add some significant functionality that requires a bit of a thicker iPad, it makes sense...

Why does anyone (MacRumors) still give these "Asian Suppliers" any credence? These people don't know their A** from a hole in the ground.

Puhleeezz.

The bulge is just...unappealing. I believe this is a fake.

Once again, what happened to the camera?

20 years? If apple aren't selling 'smart' eyelid-implants by 2031, I'm selling all my (non-existent) stock.
