iPad 3 with More Tapered Edge and an 8 Megapixel Back Camera?

This is looking more and more like a solid upgrade. These rumors are motivating me to get in shape. I told my wife a month ago that she can't let me get an iPad 3 until I get back to 180lbs. The more I see these rumors, the more I'm reminded to hit the gym. It's been working out really well so far. But I think I might have to wait until April or May. I'm hoping that playing with the final product will motivate me even more. It's going to be hard to put down that beautiful retina display. I can't wait. Going to the gym now…crap it's 11:30pm. Oh late night weekend rumors!

lol It's more about the diet than the work out.

Actually its both for max efficiency

8MP CAMERA MEANS 720-1080p VIDEO I HOPE IT COMES WITH iMovie 11 OR 12 on it
ALSO I HOPE THE FRONT CAMERA IS FACETIME HD MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS IS PRICE AND CAN YOU OPEN MORE THEN 1 APP AT A TIME AND HOW MUCH SYS MEM IT HAS CAN I USE IT FOR MOBILE VIDEO EDITING

I really hope the iPad 3 has 2 GB RAM. RAM is pretty cheap these days, but I don't really see Apple putting 2 gigs in it's iPad :(

I don't think RAM is so important on the iPad because its doesn't use a HD so loading from storage into RAM is no way as bad as on a laptop. I'm not sure what the actual transfer speed is, perhaps someone here knows, but I'd around the speed of a SSD drive?

I don't see how Apple can even FIT and 8 mp camera into the thinness of the iPad 2 (Or just make the iPad 3 the same design as the 4/4S)

-iOS makes it special
-the design of the iPad makes it special (you can't argue against that one since all the android devices try to imitate the look of the ipad)
-Also the fact that everyone knows deep down that Apple revolutionised the touch screen while others came out of the woods afterwards trying to chase the market Apple created. That makes people think higher of Apple automatically.

Remember when the MBP rumor was going about being carbon fibre with a more brownish look. so sexy imo

I find it humorous that people are still asking this. It's true many tablets using all sorts of OSes, not just Android, have duplicated, and even one-uped, the iPad 2's raw specs. But when it comes to usability consumers still gravitate to the iPad 2... for a reason. None of the competing tablets can compete w/ the iPad 2 when it comes to the #1 fuction: usability.

Android has proven to be a worthy competitor of the iPhone, but, as of yet, it hasn't found a way to convert the OS to be a decent tablet OS like Apple has done with iOS. That is what makes the iPad special and able to command 57% tablet marketshare... it's usable. (The #1 Android table BTW is the Kindle Fire which is "special" because it's low cost, not full featured like an iPad).

Ok I'll rephrase it. "What other than a crisp screen makes this more special than THE CURRENT iPAD ?"

However aside from looking better/ better manufacturing quality, my touch pad can do everything an ipad2 can. Its the build quality of the iPad that sets it apart IMO, the OS's are getting pretty close in functionality /usability

I disagree with the premise. First, anecdotally, I bought two fire sale touchpads, a 16 and a 32. I opened the 16, the 32 is still sealed waiting to see how CM9 develops in the next few months. I agree WebOS has some nice features, but to say it can do everything the iPad2 can do is far fetched at a minimum. But more to the point, Even HP engineers were aware at how hobbled the TP was and wouldn't be able to keep pace with the iPad:
The hardware reportedly stopped the team from innovating beyond certain points because it was slow and imposed constraints, which was highlighted when webOS was loaded on to Apple’s iPad device and found to run the platform significantly faster than the device for which it was originally developed.

And now with WebOS in Open Source purgatory the TouchPad is nothing more than a $99 portable web browser/radio/Angry Birds console. The available apps for it are painfully limited. By the time the open source devs have a chance to really develop for TP this fall the iPad 3 will be far leading Android tabs, let alone the fallen TP.

Ok I'll rephrase it. "What other than a crisp screen makes this more special than THE CURRENT iPAD ?"

Well, even as great as the iPad 2 is, a crisp screen definitely steps up the game since Android tabs w/ HD screens exist, but still don't sell as well as the iPad 2. But also we don't know what other specs will def. be in the iPad 3. A QC proc and HD cameras definitely start to put space between the iPad 2 and 3 just as the iPhone 4 put space between it and the 3GS, and, for sure, the 3.

If the iPad 3 does indeed have a retina display, a camera upgrade almost has to be included. I can't imagine a better device for displaying pictures on, a large super high ppi retina display, perfect. It only makes sense that you would be able to take good pictures, the camera from the IP4 or 4S would be perfect for this.

The retina display is actually 'only' 3.1megapixels. So technically, they could go with the 3GS camera. Though this seems unlikely, because despite it's adequate pixel count it's quality isn't up to much. The IP4 camera is far more likely, a very good quality 5mp snapper, which would be capable of 1080p video capture technically.

The 4S camera on the iPad 3 would be awesome, but I can't see it. The cost would be too high, this is the latest camera tech and would be most expensive. Atleast the IP4 camera is a generation or two old to keep costs respectable.

When was the last time an Apple product matched the impossible-to-live-up-to hype? Why should this be any different? I'm betting the iPad 3 will be very nice but it won't match some of these outrageous rumored descriptions we've seen.

I'm guessing:
-"Retina Display"
-Duel Core A6
-512MB RAM
-5MP rear camera
-4G LTE
-16MB, 32MB, 64MB
-No Siri yet (future software update)
-Same pricing structure

We'll also see demos of new versions of apps like Garageband, iMovie, Photos, and a few 3rd party ones (Infinity Blade?) all enhanced with iPad-sized "retina" graphics.

No new Apple TV (yet).

March 7th unveiling with availability starting March 16th.

What makes the newest model MacBook pro any better than the previous version? ;-). This applies to almost any tech device.

Thanks for the commercial there bud,

But all that stuff is available on Android too.

I'm talking about "What (Other than a crisp screen) makes this special ?"

If all that stuff is available on Android (as you say, which is hardly the case in reality), then what makes the Androids special?

Don't see how they can do a quad-core, retina display, bigger battery and an 8MP camera and still keep the price points the same. I'll believe it when I see it.
The progress reduces the prices. A quite natural development in this industry, or do you think "640kb ought to be enough for anybody."? ;-)

Ok so a lot of you think the Galaxy Note looks ridiculously to big to use as a phone but using the iPad as a camera is just fine? WoW! Again the shameless blatant hypocrisy continues. What a joke.

Sigh, this thing will prolly end up being heavier though. The current weight of the iPad is too heavy, one of the main reasons why I sold mine.

Quad-core CPUs cost little if anything more than dual-core at the moment. Given the die shrink, the silicon real-estate is the same (or less). An 8 MP camera a year later isn't going to cost any more, it may even cost less.

does seem like a big jump, but if you assume the iPad 3 does have a Retina Display, a camera upgrade seems like it has to follow. Otherwise you are shooting 720p on 2048x1536 Retina display.

arn

Good point! I'd like Apple to move away from the best camera being reserved exclusively for the iPhone while the iPads and iPod Touches suffer very low res. Perhaps the combination of iPad Retina Display (as you point out) and this year's expected move to super high res Mac displays will be the motivation to change the pattern.

While I know taking photos with an iPad is awkward compared to with an iPhone, it is just too bad that the iPad 3 doesn't appear to include a camera flash, too. I wonder why Apple chooses to ignore that on the iPad and wonder even more so when it comes to the iPod Touch. Is it simply a matter of internal space?

Kinda like the future fandroids at the time laughing at a phone coming out (iPhone) without a physical keyboard. Oh, and like those fandroids that laughed at the iPad as nothing more than a "giant iPhone that can't even make calls" only to cream their pants a year later over the latest droid tabs.

Again the shameless blatant hypocrisy continues. What a joke.

come on apple....last 2 versions of ipad's had both 16, 32 and 64gb. Now its time to upgrade the flash memory ^^ oh and also make it a bit more speedy while you're at it:)

i think you're right exept for the RAM. do you really expect such a display to only come with 512megs of ram?
Although i really really really would like to see apple expands your list a bit more^^

I never load up into webos, ever. I meant that I can do everything in cm9 ics alpha that I can do on the iPad 2. I am not arguing in favor of the tp's hardware at all. My point was that the tablet experience with ics is pretty good and rivals that of iOS. That said, id never buy a full priced android tablet. I just believe ics is underrated on tablets (if its even officially on any of them yet)

I still think the iPad is just a bigger iPhone since it uses the same UI as the iPhone. Android tablets used to be the same until Honeycomb came out. Now tablets have a better UI.

I'd just like to point out - the iPad would also look ridiculous as a phone. Making a call and using a camera are 2 separate things...

But why change the OS if it's not needed? if it ain't broke, don't fix it. :D

Apple has always been skimpy with RAM and proven, at least with mobile devices, that size doesn't matter.
