I was all set to go grab an iPad4 until I saw this thread! I was anticipating a Sept/Oct release. I'd like to have mine for August when I start classes. By purchasing it now, I was hoping to gain familiarity with certain apps, writing with a stylus, etc. What to do, what to do...I wish the product release dates were more predictable!

I planned on waiting for the iPad 5, but I decided that this iPad is amazing as well and let's be honest; it's not like this iPad is going to be less snappy when the new one comes out.

I decided to just buy the iPad 4 and enjoy it. It'll last me a year or three and I think it's an amazing little device :)

Funny most of what I see on this thread is when the new IPAD is coming out, I did not see much regarding what is new.

Does anyone have any rumors about what is new on the next IPAD that will make it worth upgrading..?

Every new update is AMAZING, just watch the keynotes.

Digitimes (warning):

Volume production of the fifth-generation 9.7-inch iPad will kick off in July-August 2013, according to sources with Taiwan-based supply chain makers. Yield rates for key components, especially touch panels, will be a major concern for smooth production.

The sources pointed out that the new iPad will be thinner and lighter than the fourth-generation one and will adopt a slim bezel design, similar to that of the iPad mini.

The new iPad's display is expected to be supplied by LG Display and Sharp, while the touch panel assembly will be conducted by TPK and the ITO thin film supplied by Nitto Denko and Teijin, the sources added.

It's pretty obvious Apple is moving everything iOS related to a Fall release cadence.

For example, last Fall they released iOS 6, an updated iPod Touch, the iPad Mini, the iPhone 5, and a new iPad.

Competition is Starting to Drive Release Cycles

A couple years ago Apple could release as they saw fit and everyone waited with baited breath....

Not sure much any more. The fanboys and people like my parents will stand in line like lemmings, but most of the younger folks I know through work (IT integrator) aren't necessarily brand loyal. They are savvy enough to switch between IOS and Android without a hiccup and care more about whatever's considered the new, hot tech toy.

A yearly release cycle seems like forever when multiple competitors are chomping at your heels. I'm not sure if logistically Apple can consistently pull off substantitive semiannual releases, but I think they'll pay a price if they don't. The iPad 3 -> 4 upgrade is an example. Hopefully this trend will continue.

That would mean a complete cycle of new iOS devices in a span of two months.

Doesn't seem plausible, unless the updated iphone launches in June.

But did that work for them?

I was under the impression sales in Q4 and Q1 dried up compared with last year.

I dunno, but I don't think it would have been wise to wait until now to release the current iPad, nor do I think it would be wise to release a new iPad generation now having just released one less than six months ago. That quick of an update was an anomaly, with the iPad 3 being ahead of its time, and not something we'll see very often.

If I had to make a prediction, I would say a Fall release alongside iOS 7 just like last year.

Possible iPad 5 front:

I still think they will bring up the release date a couple of months to reduce the actual 12 month cycle. My prediction is a late May or June announcement (mostly at WWDC) with a roll out starting in late June or early July. Should reduce the 12 month cycle to about 9 months. Likewise, expect the next Ipad 6 by april/may 2014 ( another 9 months) and possibly with a 20nm SoC from TSMC.

Doubling down on old posts?

You must have been too pleased with your witty comment to notice the link just a couple above yours from yesterday. Or the post on the main page of this site.

I think you are funny too.

Actually, I did notice it. And thank you! I think you're an awesome guy too.

I think the iPad 4 is the first iPad that Apple finally got "correct" are far as the hardware. What can they improve on with the iPad 5? Thinner bezel...?

Significantly lower weight has been mentioned.

As well as being thinner, most likely will also have a better display, as in less reflective/glare, better in sunlight, brighter, etc.

All that is all I need to upgrade. Now it's just a matter of when.

Nearly half way through April and its looking less likely well see a launch in April with no keynote invites, venue booking rumours etc.

The new iPad will be announced in 2nd week of April. I have some sources and they confirmed it. Apple iPhone 5S to be announced at WWDC 2013. iPhone 6 at Sep-Oct. I am losing my patience too. I have an iPad 3 and it's time we see something new. Also I want a brand new iOS.

It's now the end of the 2nd week of April.

IMO- not really.
The 3 is just as good.
I bought the 4 to replace my 3 expecting much better, faster performance.
Side by side- Not the case.
The 4 made very little sense.
They pretty much got it right with the 3.
The 5 will be a much better step up from the 3.

same here dude. i returned my iPad 4 and went back to an iPad 3. i saved $150 doing so too since i bought the iPad 3 64GB LTE at the lower refurb prices ($679). now the same model is only $629.

i still say to this day, that the iPad 3 16GB wifi refurb for $379 is THE BEST value you can get with any iPad these days. i see so many on this forum saying "i want a better screen should i sell my ipad 2 and get an ipad 4?" - why not sell your iPad 2 and get $275+ for it and pay an extra $100 or so and get the Retina screen to hold you over until the next iPad.

i have been nothing but satisfied with my iPad 3 - no light bleed, no yellow tint, no overheating. it gets warmer than my iPad 2 for sure, but my hands don't sweat from it. battery life isn't as good as my iPad 2 but how can i complain, i have a screen that doesn't require zooming on webpages or the newspaper app i have. it still has the 30 pin connector which = convenience for me

Nope jail breaking it just installing inferior bloatware. You have fun with your spinning icons

is that what Apple tells you?

LMAO

Heck, I'm all for newer products but it sure seems some aren't really happy/satisifed with what they currently have. I guess it depends what you own now but heck some folks still like their ipad 1 and ipad 2 so ....
