There isn't a mute button on screen on the iPhone. With the mute switch down, my iPhone only vibrates. Without the switch, seems like the iPad would ring everytime and you'd have to hit the power button, like on the iPhone, to mute it.

I did say "on the iphone call screen". Now I understand, you are referring to muting the phone ringer. I thought you were referring to the phone call which does have a mute button with a microphone icon.

Stop this "thinness" obsession. It's not always better.

Yeah, try holding an iPad 3 for too long (reading a book or something) and you'll see why how comfortable it is and why weight and thickness matter.

Or just keep jumping into the whining bandwagon.

Meh, call me when Apple announces an iPad Pro. Until then, it's just more of the same.

"Can't innovate anymore" indeed.

Count me in on that one. I AM one of those thinner and bigger types. A .5mm reduction isn't much of a form factor or performance evolution over the last one to warrant purchase BUT give me a larger screen and I'm all over it!

I read three Game of Thrones books on my iPad 3, and two on my iPad Air.

Never had a problem with any model. I rather a bigger battery and a more rigid and durable device. To each their own...but I personally hate when manufacturers start sacrificing functionality for form.

Strange nothing has really leaked regarding the rMini. I wonder what :apple: has in store for the rMini. I sure see plenty of them in the wild.

Nothing leaked about the Mac Pro either. I'm betting that the mac mini as we know it is dead, and that apple will release a completely rethought mac mini to go with the new retina stand alone displays.

But the watch. For the love of all, the innovation of a, watch!!! It's going to change the world, somewhere, somehow.

Oh, nevermind...

But that's my point. Making a tablet lighter counts as a functionality improvement.

Kudos for managing to hold an iPad 3 for that long. Personally, I'd have a better experience if I didn't had to hold a 650g rectangle.

So I'm going to need to buy all new cases just for .5mm less thickness?

Seems pretty ridiculous. Just give us a slightly bigger battery.

Current iPad Air has plenty of battery. Why need more?

I believe the rotation lock is already in the control center.

I know. I meant "both".

Er wrong! Lots of people complained about the iPhone 6 being too thin. Especially with the protruding camera there were many discussions on here about making it thicker to encompass the lens and having a bigger battery.

You need to get out more

A lot people mean these in this blog or in Apple Insider or 9to5Mac? Those representing 0.000000000001% of Apple iPhone owners. Use your brain.

it is still funny

Not it's not. His comment on you is funnier.

"more rigid and durable device"? What the hell did you do to your iPad, make love with it? I don't see any...yes, any reason why the current iPad Air is not rigid and durable enough...unless you sit on it, drop it or slam it on someone's head...and those are not considered normal uses for regular people with normal IQ.

Hopefully this gives Apple an excuse to fix the Smart Cases

Well-known Vietnamese blog Tinhte.vn today published images that reportedly show the design of Apple's next generation iPad Air 2. The pictured device has the same general form factor as the existing iPad Air, but includes a thinner 7 mm profile that measures roughly the same as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and thinner than the current 7.5 mm iPad Air. In line with previous rumors, the iPad Air 2 model also includes a home button with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

While this latest report includes detailed photographs and a video, they only give us a hint at Apple's next-generation iPad as the device in the photos is described as a dummy model used by accessory manufacturers to test out and showcase their designs and not an actual iPad Air 2 unit leaked from a Foxconn assembly line. Similar to previous leaks, the iPad model has the same external design features seen in earlier leaks and in MacRumors' own dummy unit on hand since June.

Of perhaps most note, the Tinhte.vn and other dummy models include two distinctive small holes in the area of the rear camera -- one on the back and one of the side of the casing. The hole closest to the camera is undoubtedly for a microphone, while the other hole likely marks the presumed location of the mute/rotation switch, which is not depicted ini full on the models. Today's report and an earlier one have suggested this hole is for a microphone rather than simply marking the mute/rotation switch location, but we believe this interpretation is likely incorrect.

Apple is expected to unveil its iPad Air 2 and possibly a new Retina iPad mini at a press event to be held on October 16. The next-generation iPad Air is rumored to included a faster A8 processor, anti-reflective display, Touch ID, and a gold color option.

I only hope that this provides Apple with an excuse to redesign the iPad Air Smart Cover and iPad mini Smart Cover products because what they have for the current iPad Air and both first and second generation iPad minis is not great.

I appreciate that they wouldn't retroactively make a new Smart Case for the iPad Air and iPad mini that I already own, but a redesign of the Smart Cases would, I'd imagine, permeate to the Smart Cover corresponding to the iPad Air that I eventually buy to replace my current (however many years down the road). As for the iPad mini, seeing as I'm buying this next generation, I'm looking for more immediate improvement for the iPad mini Smart Case.

Depends on how one is using it. Reading for a few hours laying on a couch or bed, it grows a bit tiresome to hold. Not really a deal-breaker for most, but less weight is certainly welcome.

Anyways the idea of a device that only juiced up bodybuilders can use is kind of funny. I'll bet such an iPad would get at least a week battery life...

Months, I'd hope! lol.

Touch ID and A8 is good and all, but more important to me would be to just go straight to the 32GB entry level. Enough with this 16GB BS.. It's an iPad.. Storage is key if you really want to get the business traveler market.

(oh.. and more RAM could be good too!) :)

It would be very good! :)
2gb of RAM or the lack of would be a deal breaker for me and many others.
If iPad sales have dwindled then Apple should really look at adding that extra 1 gb. I would say that a lot of people would start upgrading for that reason alone and sales would go through the roof.

So please Apple, more RAM! It's only 1 itty bitty gigabyte more. :D :p

People said that mostly BEFORE it came out. Once they say it, they bought it. You can count the posts in the history on this site of you have patience, and the time to do it

I live in the real world away from the constant online whining about petty details. and that's it went.

Some people may be delaying upgrading because of the 1G, but its a small minority. The majority not upgrading to do because the Ipad they own is good enough for their needs. The Ipad went down 17% in one year, but tablets in general also went down so everybody is suffering from the same issue.

7mm thick eh? Just keeps getting thinner and thinner with Apple. They keep looking in the mirror and thinking, am I too fat? :D

Make it 8mm and give me a bigger battery please.

You do know that you can have a longer lasting device if the CPU/GPU is more efficient don't you. That's the reason the Iphone 6 and 6+ is kicking everyone's ass on battery life.

How about an A8X for the iPads that features 4GB RAM? Because we all know RAM is a lot like smack: no matter how much you have, you always want more :p

More seriously, I'd like to see iOS use more aggressive caching to NAND on larger storage capacity models. On the smaller NAND capacities a conservative cache behavior makes sense but if an iPad has 128 GB NAND why not exploit it for greater performance? No more Safari tab reloads and faster multitask switching between apps. If the high end iPads feature both greater storage and performance, then demand increases and Apple can either profit directly or lower pricing to expand marketshare.

The only reason I can think of for iOS's meek caching is NAND endurance. Apple's storage pricing also suggests quality MLC NAND, but that could just be Apple going for inflated margins. Apple has shown an interest in technology to increase endurance of cheap NAND, so they may have good reason to worry about iDevice storage crapping out on users. The solution to their worries is simple! Throw lots of RAM at the problem.

What would you consider to be innovative?

Surface Pro 3 says hello - that product has ushered in an entirely new segment of the market, the tablet/laptop hybrid. There's going to be a ton of these coming out over the next year with Intel's new, fanless, Broadwell chips.

..as thin as the iPhone 6 Plus if ever i saw one..

Foxconn has a reputation of leaking stuff of the assembly line don't they ??

I wonder how car manufactures manage to keep it under raps. Maybe Foxconn could learn a thing or two here.

Get a stand for it or a case with a stand included and its weight and thickness won't matter any more for that usage scenario.
