And your post seems to confirm my suspicion. Some people are reporting that you are supposed to receive the $50 coupon regardless of what the trade-in value is. However, I'm pretty sure the rep was correct in saying that the coupon will only print out if your trade-in value is less than $200. I'm still waiting on some other people to confirm this.

I traded in an iPad 4th generation for $250 and I got the $50 coupon.

Question for those of you doing trade-ins: what's the process? I assume they expect you to have wiped your data off and removed the activation lock, but do they check in front of you? Do they ask you for any accessories, like the cable and/or charger? I've never done it before and just want to know what to expect.

When I did this for my iPad 1st gen (last year) and the 2 iPhone 5's (last week), I wiped the phones myself. They turned them on. Once they saw the "Hello" screen, I was good to go.

They take down your information to start, person at the register at customer service does everything including inspection. They give you nothing for cables or box or anything so don't bother bringing them. Wipe your data turn off find my iPhone and that's it. It took about 15 minutes.

This is a bit of a nightmare. They had me in there at customer service almost an hour and eventually said they don't have Space Grey, only Silver and they weren't sure if someone in warehouse just picked it wrong in the system or if they sold it to someone else. They checked if some were on the way and said they have them on order but they aren't assigned to any trucks so it could be weeks. I said I will ask them again tomorrow and if they don't have it, they said they may be able to order me one expedited free but I'd get it Monday or Tuesday. But if she does that I'll lose over $50 in Cashback bonus.

Guys, I did it. I got my ticket out of this thread.

Went across the street to BB on my way home from work, just to see if they were selling them. First guy I talked to said "no, none till next week I think". Then, another salesperson swung over:

"Watchu need? Air 2? Yeah we got those. Which One?" The first salesperson shot her a confused look.

I told her my request (Gold 64) and she headed over to a ladder that she climbed up to access a huge cage full of iPads. Then, while standing on the ladder, she picked up the phone. From there details are fuzzy, but it seemed like she was asking if she was asking if she could sell it to me. Then she hung up the phone and yelled across the room to a 3rd sales rep. He said don't sell it. Then a fourth swung by, after hanging up his own phone, and said "SELL IT".

So I bought it. And I was able to use my trade-in credits.

And then I walked out, called BB customer service, and canceled my pre-order. Done. Out, and over.

Good luck everyone!

Wait till tomorrow.

Wait till tomorrow.

That's the plan. they all basically kept offering to cancel and just order one because some of them felt sure they didn't have more iPads coming this week but I said just let me check tomorrow since it was the original date. So let's hope they just screwed up today and not tomorrow.

I spoke to a manager at the Best Buy. Only people who DIDN'T preorder are picking them up today, if there are some available.

The people who DID preorder won't be able to pick up till tomorrow. Oh, the irony. But the system will not allow preorders to be picked up till tomorrow.

Not true. I got text 9am this morn that my preorder was avail for pickup and I'm typing from it now?

Count me in with the text/email your iPad is ready crowd, but then received a voicemail saying they didn't get any gold, which is what I ordered. Why can't they take preorders for what they know they will have?? I had heard the horror stories over Best Buy preorders, why didn't I listen?? Now I'm pissed, I took tomorrow off to go get it and then travel 40 miles to the Apple Store to get AppleCare put on it before I open the package. Now it looks like that's all down the drain at the last minute. Now I guess all I can do is call them tomorrow to see if they get it in. I'm giving them 7 days to produce a gold iPad, or I'm canceling my order and cutting up my Best Buy credit card for good. I'm not waiting weeks or months.

I need mine early next week at the latest before I leave town. Sure hope the screen is decent. If not, can Apple just take care of it in their store so I never need to talk to Best Buy customer service again?

Like just exchange it under warranty instead of me needing to do a Best Buy exchange?

Yes, but your text said it was available today. The rest of us - it says tomorrow in the email.

My text and the website said today. My email says tomorrow. The store thinks they just aren't getting it this week and I want to cry waiting.

Well, I know that some stores literally have no way of selling them since their point-of-sales system is saying "preorder," so for the sake of "fairness" (her word, not mine), they hold them till Friday. None of it makes any sense to me.

I don't even know. I'm sure I can hold out another day, though. :)

Yes, no problem. Not sure you'd be able to get a new, boxed replacement, though. It'll be a white box or brown box or whatever. It's still a new unit at this point, though. You can keep your original retail box, and they'd swap just the unit out.

I called a few stores in my area. Most said flat-out that they're not on sale until tomorrow. One offered to check, noting that they had some but that they needed to verify that they had enough to fill their pre-orders and still sell to walk-ins. (They had enough and could sell to walk-ins.)

For the sake of their retail partners, I think Apple needs to do a better job of announcing dates. I'm pretty sure we're driving a good percentage of Best Buy's employees around the nation crazy.

My big worry is that they won't get Space Grey tomorrow because the system claims they already did.

That makes no sense. So a trade in worth $199 gets the $50 coupon, but one worth $201 doesn't? I just think there's some miscommunication on Best Buy's part or some Best Buys aren't capable of processing this offer for whatever reason.

The Albany, NY store has the wifi models in stock now. I purchased online for in-store pickup. I have the 10% mover's coupon, so I will ask for a price adjustment when I pick it up.

I managed to get a 16GB Space Gray model yesterday. At first he had no idea if they even had any in stock but I showed him my phone where there was clearly a green "Available" text on the iPad Air 2. He went to the back and after about 10ish minutes he came back out with the iPad. Everything else went smoothly after that. Hopefully things continue to go more smoothly for others now that it's "officially" launch day.

Went in this morning and got my 64GB Space Grey Wi-Fi. After the debacle yesterday, a manager told district they were missing the space grey models and the warehouse pushed another shipment this morning to fix it. They weren't sure if they had come in yet when I arrived but they went to the back and found it.
