Oh FFS will you stop with the gate bullcrap.

It was a joke at first, but now it seems this is #Wifigate for real.

I'll probably get banned soon for bringing this up but my money is ready for an iPad. I've been waiting for it for months and now this.

My iPad money is at home. Literally in a bag. I'm just waiting for it to be in the store. Now this.

yea no kidding, no clue how it all started

Well let me aducate you

When the new Retina iPad was over heating and having WiFi problems.

I don't know. I live in a condo and I connect to a WiFi service that the condo has. The WiFi modems are in the hallway.

I went to their website. Their modems are 802.11n. Does that mean they're likely to be 2.4ghz?

They are very likely 2.4ghz or dual broadcasting at 2.4 and 5. The 5ghz networks have smaller ranges, so it wouldn't make sense for building coverage to use only 5.

I guess this means I'll just have to wait until it gets here and go check at the store myself.

They have in the hallways, 1 WiFi modem per 4 apartments.

As long at I get a strong continuous connection that is fast enough to watch YouTube then I don't care. I just don't want it to either have a weak connection or be disconnecting all the time.

I've read on 802.11n the range between 5 and 2.4 are about the same, but that 5ghz is more susceptible to obstruction by walls.

That's why I'm thinking its 2.4 - the modems are in the halls, and have to go through the walls (and walls inside the apartments) while still having good coverage. We have a modem that broadcasts 5 and 2.4 under different network names. The 5 is hella fast in the room that it's in, but outside of that room, the 2.4 is the better network.

Now what? If you want one, buy one and try it out. If it works, keep it and never update like you want. If it doesn't work, return it. Not really difficult and everyone has different wifi setups so you need to see what works for you.

That's what I just said before.

I am in Thailand. There aren't any official stores here. It isn't as easy as, if I don't like it I can return it. They don't do that here. Usually you buy it, and if you walk out of the store you're pretty much on your own, unless it is a real defect you can demonstrate the very next day. Very rarely do they give you back any money. Sometimes you can get a replacement , most time they send it for repairs.

You have to be careful over here.

Apple refuses to open even 1 store here. They go with the reseller thing. They're about to open 25 in China, but nothing here. It's shocking since the resellers here are always full and everyone here has an iPhone or iPad.

Even my school is going with a 1:1 iPad program here. We bought 65 iPads a couple of years ago and we are about to make my lab entirely of iMacs. I don't know why apple doesn't have an official presence here.

No wifi issues on my air 2 or iPhone 6. The YouTube app for the iPad's just literally sucks. Always errors out and disconnects on my old rMini and Air 2. Using a third party app for YouTube works perfect, however.

It really does. Deserves the 2 star rating.

Which app do you use? I tried Foxtube but I didn't like it.

I'm using video tube temporarily. Not fond of it, but it works without having to play with settings. I am finding that if I use the regular YouTube app and select my video quality I tend to have less issues. The downside is doing it for every single video. Basically, you have to decide if lack of features is more annoying than constantly selecting video quality.

I've had no issues with my Air 2 (64GB wifi) on guest wifi at work (802.11n) or different routers at home (802.11ac or 802.11n).

Of course, I've never had major wifi issues with any iOS device or Mac.

I've always found WiFi to be slightly flakey on iOS going back to the 3GS. When it's there it's fine but in some situations it seems prone to dropping for relatively little reason. Feels like it's just over sensitive to slight variations in signal strength.

For me newer devices do seem to be better (an iPhone 5S and a Retina Mini are better than the older iPhones and iPads). Will see what the Air 2 is like shortly (with any lucky).

It's Gategate!

Haven't used my ipad air 2 enough yet today to find out yet but yep......I was contsantly losing 5ghz connection on my ipad air after I updated to ios 8. I had to go to 2.4 band which was never a problem. Was hoping this would be solved but sounds like its not?

Whats hilarious is apples response. I posted on their forum and they respond in an email about needing to update my router firmware. So let me get this right......I update your software and now my routers the problem?

Was hoping the further updates to ios 8 would solve but they haven't.

No Wi-fi issues here. Works flawlessly.

Also a little advice: please consider refraining yourself from declaring something as -"gate" for no apparent reason. Here is a better hashtag for you: #TrollingNotNecessary
