It looks like a Linksys/iPad air 2 specific issue. Will be hard to get a fix from Apple if the issue cannot be repro'd with the other routers.

My Air 1 was always dropping wifi, but I haven't had a single problem with my Air 2. I bought an Airport Exteme yesterday, and now we're really flying! Streaming video from my MacBook Pro took forever with my 5 yr old junk router, and now it's blazing fast. The Air 2 was already fast on the junk router, and seems a bit faster with the AirPort Extreme.

Honestly, I'm loving everything about the Air 2. It's too bad that you can't return things easily in Thailand.....

No problems here.

In the beginning the iPad didn't detect the network, but it also happens with my SmartTV, as I was in the first floor and the router is in the second one. Once connected, everything has worked as expected, perfectly.

I have a Linksys E4200v2 with the same problem. Can you share your result after the factory reset ?

So I reset my iPad Air 2 as new and I'm still having the issue. I'm not sure if I should exchange this or wait until Apple acknowledges what the issue could be...maybe it's specific to the iPad Air 2 wifi chip.

I'm not sure what this demonstrates. The issue is largely dropping wifi, not performance while connected. I can get numbers like those too, but once I put the device down and it goes to sleep, it disconnects and I have to toggle wifi off/on before it will connect again.

At least, that's the specific issue I'm experiencing, and judging by the responses in this thread, it's what a lot of other folks are seeing too.

I'm getting the same thing (WiFi dropping after a few minutes being asleep/locked), but on multiple routers. A couple of Netgear routers, a Motorola NVG510 ATT Uverse router, and a Linksys. I haven't had a chance to test it against our enterprise system at work, but I'll let you know.

Do we think this is just a software issue? Or should I be looking to start a case with Apple to troubleshoot for bad hardware. I've reset my network settings, but I haven't done the full restore yet. Though, doesn't seem like that is helping anyways.

Had my Air 2 since Friday. No wifi drops at all.

I did have the issue with my Air 1. My husband is now using it and hasn't reported any issues since the upgrade to 8.1. That may be due to the new OS, the full restore when I gave it to him and put his stuff on it, or the fact that he doesn't use it more than an hour or so a day.

I'm fully convinced it's a software issue. Apple never get wifi right with any new OS and it seems to take them 6 months or so to issue fixes.

OP, I understand your hesitation since returning your device will be hard/impossible. I can't tell you any more than so far my Air 2 has been stable. My suggestion, at least use an Apple router if you can. I suspect you'll have fewer issues since those will have been tested more throughly - no promises though.

Good luck. I'm betting you buy one as soon as you can. I can tell you really want to. I really hope it works out well. And the good news? At least by the time they get to Thailand maybe the bugs will be worked out.

I agree with donnaw above, I'm pretty sure this is indeed a software issue. Went through the same thing maybe a year ago on my iPhone 5, following some incremental OS update. Drove me nuts. But then a subsequent update fixed it, never had the problem after that.

I plan to test on other routers too, and it probably wouldn't hurt to open a case and bring it to Apple's attention - but I wouldn't count on any real fix until we see 8.1.1 or whatever's next. Annoying.

No drops here. Connected fine to both my Asus AC router at home and my Netgear N router at work. In fact, it is ridiculously fast over AC Wifi. I've had no drops on either one.

ios 8.1 still have the known issue with 5ghz band, low signal etc
only the 2.4ghz band is working fine.

it also occur in all ios wifi ac chips products (ipad air 2/iphone 6/6+)

it will be fixed in iOS 8.2 we hope

So i'm in my office today and my iPad Air 2 works without a problem on my office router which is a D-Link DIR-855L. I had it in sleep mode for over an hour while I was having lunch, no issue at all on wake up. Wifi speeds are fine, no issues. My home router is a Linksys EA4500 and as of last night was still giving me issues. I know not everyone has Linksys routers that's having issues, but something still seems really odd about that. I'm going to hook up an older Asus router I have here to my home network, hopefully tonight. Curious if that makes a difference.

Data point: the router I've been working with (err, sometimes not working with) is also a Linksys (EA3500).

No issues connecting to wifi for me - this is to my virgin media supplied superhub 2.0

I think I got my issues resolved by setting the router (Linksys E4200v2) fixed to channel 1 (instead of automatic channel selection). 3 hours without disconnect after lockscreen now.

How do you do this? From router settings/web site? Pretend you're explaining it to a moron. Actually, you don't even have to pretend.

Right, start with the router settings website. Choose "wireless", then click "edit" for your 2,4GHz network. There is the channel setting, just select "1-2.412GHz" instead of "auto". Thats it for the E4200v2 with latest firmware, could be a bit different for other models. Just try it, maybe it's a temporary fix. My 5GHz network is disabled in general.

I also have a E4200v2 with the latest firmware. I tried the same settings = 5Ghz disabled / 2.4 Ghz , auto channel disabled, 1-2.412Ghz selected. But I still see the disconnection issue after some idle.
Have you changed something else ?

Thanks for posting. I also have Linksys EA4500 which has been giving me endless issues. Looks like there's definitely an issue with this particular brand. Going to buy an Asus!

I don't think this issue is isolated to just Linksys routers. That being said, all of my devices work fine and I have several devices (Xbox 360, Apple TV, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, Samsung S3, Macbook Pro, PC, etc) hooked up to my Linksys EA3500 wireless router. I'm only having an issue with my brand new iPad Air 2. I don't think it's only the Linksys routers that are having the issue on this thread or on the Apple discussion forums. But it seems that lots of people with this issue due have a Linksys router.

iPad Air 2 Wifi Experiences

Just read all the stories and mine is similar. Received the iPad Air 2 yesterday with IOS 8.1 out-of-the box. In the first few hours I was already experiencing connectivity issues. When I haven't used my iPad for say 5 minutes, it cannot download any data from the internet anymore - as if it were blocked. By turning Wifi "off" an "on" again, internet connectivity is restored and it works fine.... until I stop browsing again for a while and the connectivity issues start over.

In contrast, my trusty iPad 1 (yes, the original!) never had and still doesn't have any Wifi connectivity issues. Go figure!

I've had mine since Friday. No wifi drops at all. My Air1 on 8.1 is still dropping out periodically. I have an ATT router.

But I still think it's a software issue. Hopefully Apple is fixing it. Same thing happens every new OS rollout. They never get it right. But I seem to remember a real fix coming sooner last year. I don't know. Just hoping it gets fixed for everyone very soon.

Linksys ea6900 and so far excellent connectivity. 60 Mbps download and hasn't lost connection yet. Also connect to older Cisco router at work w/o problems. Air 2 128 gb plus cellular 3 days old and loving it so far. My old iPad 2 had bad connection problems with western digital router and was perfect with ea6900 also.
