My wi-fi is driving me crazy. I have been using my old iPad 3 instead of my brand-new iPad air 2 because it will not stay connected to my Wi-Fi. I can usually only stay connected for about 10 minutes before it cuts out. And it never remembers my network, makes me choose it again, and every time I enter the password it tells me it is incorrect even though I know it is not. If I do it 10 times it will finally work. But only for 10 Minutes. I have tried to reset network settings, reboot my modem, hard reset on my iPad and so far nothing is working. Apple acted like it is not a known issue, even though there is a huge thread on Apple support forum about this very thing.

My iPad 3 is also on 8.1 and and will occasionally after a couple of hours stop working. It won't disconnect from the network but it will just get stuck in Safari and nothing will load.

I don't know what to do about it, but I hope Apple comes up with a fix soon. I really don't think it is a hardware problem because I exchanged my first iPad air 2 and this one is doing the exact same thing.
I am using an Xfinity router, and both the iPad Air 2's were set up as new, and not from a back up.

I also had intermittent drops...i had an iPad air 1 for 10 months...not one drop...first night with the air 2 and every 10-25 minutes it would lose connection for 10-15 seconds...it would connect itself back up again...but i play poker and other things online - not cool...i have a 2nd gen airport express router

i ended up taking it back...i cant have an iPad that cant stay 100% connected to the internet

i did sell the air 1 before 8.1 came out - so i wasn't able to test with that os level on my router

I've been using my ipad air 2 since last Friday and am happy to say I have enocuntered no wi fi issues. On my Air 1 the 5ghz connection was constantly dropping after updating to iOS 8. Nothing solved the problem. I had to switch to 2.4 band which was stable. But I've been rock steady on 5ghz AC band since I started using my Air 2. Have Netgear R7000 router on latest firmware.

The tile with apple iOS devices is, it will never ever be better than the day it comes out of the box.

Sorry, I totally disagree with you. Just don't update the moment a new update comes out. Update one behind or wait a week or two and read if it causes problems. If it does, then skip the update and wait for the fix. The final release of ios7 is far more stable than the ios7 that came with my air.

this is really interesting. I am using r7000 with latest firmware as well. never had any issue with air1, but air2 keeps causing me trouble.

Apple support won't tell you that even if they know it is a known issue. Apple support for i-devices is very tricky. They use very particular language and will never get to the root cause of the problem. All they are trying to do is figure out liability in your situation. My advice when dealing with them is just ask for your money back immediately or get a swap with as little effort as possible. Don't waste your time talking to them and telling the same story over and over to different people. Just get a new one or money back as fast as you can. Apple support for their computers is a much better experience though.

OF course this is only my experience. Others may vary.

All,

I tried the escrge 1843 method(https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6638152?start=0&tstart=0) last night and it definitely made things a lot more stable but speed was affected. My usual Speedtest app gives me 50 Mbs Down but after setting the networks to 5ghz - A only and 2.4ghz to B/G the maximum I was able to achieve was 25 Down.

Even after sleep and wake for several hours two out of three devices (IPad Air 2 and 5S) remained connected but unfortunately my iPhone 6 Plus which was behaving better on the previous 5ghz setting lost connection this morning and I had to toggle Wi-Fi on/ off.

So in summary this method is the best temporary fix to date (especially for Linksys/Cisco routers) albeit not perfect for all IOS devices in the same household.

I'm definitely going to buy the new ASUS AC68 router which I think will solve the problem as I'm hearing good reports from numerous sources!

I don't think it is a router issue. All those routers were working rock-solid before.

I ended up returning my iPad to Apple for a refund. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Hopefully when I decide to get another one this issue will be resolved or my iPad Air 2 won't have the problem.

Good luck!

Same here. I've had iPads since the iPad 1 and this is the first time I've ever not kept one. It's sad because the hardware itself is not the problem. iOS8 is. But since we can't get an iPad Air 2 with iOS 7 mine's going back to Apple. If and when they get these wifi issues sorted out I may reconsider. In fact, I'd return my iPhone 6 if I could. Stuck with that for 2 more years but at least when its wifi drops I still have LTE

Agreed - it's ios8 - I started having the problem when I installed ios8 on my ipad 3 and it persists with my new Air 2.

I am using r7000 and no issue with Air 2 here. I would try changing channel on the router for those with wifi issue. You might want check and avoid the crowded channel.

I've had all the iPads 1,2,3,4,Air,Air2 . It's the first time I wish I didn't upgrade for the new one. The Air was good enough and worked ! it's too late now, although I could still return the Air 2 and try to find a cheap used Air ...

No problem with mine. I restored it from iCloud backup and it has been fine since day 1. No problem with my iPhone 6 either which is on iOS 8.1 now.

I haven't had a single problem with the wifi since getting this a week ago. Just now, in the middle of a war on Clash of Clans... I start my attack against their number three base. I drop the two golems down, and connection GONE.

It has disconnected three times in the past five minutes.

I got rid of my Linksys EA4500 and got the ASUS RT-AC68U - AC1900. I was due an upgrade to get on the AC standard anyway so wasn't overly annoyed!

Since testing it over the weekend it seems that my Wi-Fi issues have been resolved. I haven’t had a single drop or had to toggle the Wi-Fi switch on/off to get it the connection live again. Speeds have been consistent and this is across all my devices including :

iPhone 6 Plus
iPad Air 2
iPhone 5S
Macbook Pro Retina – 2012 non AC version

I hope this lasts but so far so good although I appreciate this is a deep routed iOS 8 problem that only occurs with certain router brands / chipsets.

Either way apple need to resolve this in the next update for the vast majority of us and this certainly shouldn’t force us to upgrade our existing equipment!

Good luck to all and I’ll post back if things start to get sour again!!

Me too, I bought the RT-AC68P (seems to be the new revision of the AC68U, with a faster processor and upgraded radio/PA components), available at BB.

So I switched from the Linksys E4200V2 to the Asus, and no longer have the connection issues with the Air 2.
Range and speed are also improved in my home with some other devices.
But next time I will think twice before I upgrade to a new Apple product.
My mother has an Air with iOS7 and I told her to not update the iOS since it works fine so far. I no longer trust their new stuff ...
