The tile with apple iOS devices is, it will never ever be better than the day it comes out of the box.
I've been using my ipad air 2 since last Friday and am happy to say I have enocuntered no wi fi issues. On my Air 1 the 5ghz connection was constantly dropping after updating to iOS 8. Nothing solved the problem. I had to switch to 2.4 band which was stable. But I've been rock steady on 5ghz AC band since I started using my Air 2. Have Netgear R7000 router on latest firmware.
My wi-fi is driving me crazy... ..... ...Apple acted like it is not a known issue, even though there is a huge thread on Apple support forum about this very thing.
Apple support won't tell you that even if they know it is a known issue. Apple support for i-devices is very tricky. They use very particular language and will never get to the root cause of the problem. All they are trying to do is figure out liability in your situation. My advice when dealing with them is just ask for your money back immediately or get a swap with as little effort as possible. Don't waste your time talking to them and telling the same story over and over to different people. Just get a new one or money back as fast as you can. Apple support for their computers is a much better experience though.
OF course this is only my experience. Others may vary.
All,
I tried the escrge 1843 method(https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6638152?start=0&tstart=0) last night and it definitely made things a lot more stable but speed was affected. My usual Speedtest app gives me 50 Mbs Down but after setting the networks to 5ghz - A only and 2.4ghz to B/G the maximum I was able to achieve was 25 Down.
Even after sleep and wake for several hours two out of three devices (IPad Air 2 and 5S) remained connected but unfortunately my iPhone 6 Plus which was behaving better on the previous 5ghz setting lost connection this morning and I had to toggle Wi-Fi on/ off.
So in summary this method is the best temporary fix to date (especially for Linksys/Cisco routers) albeit not perfect for all IOS devices in the same household.
I'm definitely going to buy the new ASUS AC68 router which I think will solve the problem as I'm hearing good reports from numerous sources!
Same here. I've had iPads since the iPad 1 and this is the first time I've ever not kept one. It's sad because the hardware itself is not the problem. iOS8 is. But since we can't get an iPad Air 2 with iOS 7 mine's going back to Apple. If and when they get these wifi issues sorted out I may reconsider. In fact, I'd return my iPhone 6 if I could. Stuck with that for 2 more years but at least when its wifi drops I still have LTEI ended up returning my iPad to Apple for a refund. I'll keep an eye on this thread. Hopefully when I decide to get another one this issue will be resolved or my iPad Air 2 won't have the problem.
Good luck!

I got rid of my Linksys EA4500 and got the ASUS RT-AC68U - AC1900. I was due an upgrade to get on the AC standard anyway so wasn't overly annoyed!
