After listening to quite a few more videos and songs and comparing with my Air 1 it's really not that bad. Sound quality is much the same and you get used to the vibrations. Not ideal on the newest device but maybe that's what you get with the thinness thing!
Think I'll keep it but overall no big improvement over the first Air from my perspective. For a general user I would not recommend upgrading.

I got my iPad air 2 last night and wow this things amazing. Anyway it does vibrate but the sound is clearer and a little louder that I don't mind it. I actually like the vibration, feels like it packs a lot power for such a thin device. :D

One of the reasons I hesitate to keep the Air 2 is that I think Apple will fix the issue. Maybe quietly or perhaps with an updated Air early next year if/when the Pro is announced.

I'm coming from an iPad 3 where Apple released an improved version just a few months after launch. Once bitten....

I don't see this being a hard fix in an iOS update. It just seems it's to bass heavy on the mids and lows. Needs to be brought down by like half.

I seriously doubt Apple didn't catch this. They just chose to ship it anyway. As evidenced by bendgate, Ive is interested only in making their products thinner regardless of what side effects it causes. Par for the course nowadays.

That's what happens when the CEO of the company is a bean counter and not a visionary. They also chose to release iOS 8 into the wild before it was ready.

I agree. I see a quiet revision being release with no way of telling except for a model number being the only difference (and also the vibration being taken away, obviously).

Sounds like you haven't purchased an air 2. So it's all a non issue? iPads are cheap compared to cars, cars have ongoing maintenance and registration costs.

I just wanted to make the point that if you have an air 2 (which I think you don't now) you could just deal with the speaker issue until the 3 comes out.

Again, I do currently own one. Tried it next to the Air 1 for a few days and do not like it.

My iPad Air 2 has a slight vibration that I notice only when I set the volume up to max. My iPad Air was the same way and until I read about it here I didn't even realize it was an issue. Maybe some vibrate more than others, but for me it's not a problem at all.

How do voices sound? Is it muffled/distorted? That'd be bad a little vibration against the frame shouldn't though

No, voices not muffled. I have a bit of hearing loss so that makes it harder to make out every word of speech in real life but so far I've been able to hear everything I've played on the new Air 2.

Noticed vibration of speaker but it's not something that gets on my nerves so its ok. In fact, if I hadn't seen this thread, I don't think I would have thought anything about it.

Then it really should not be so thin. Just as Sony (in their PC days) made the last Vaios unnecessary thin.)

Apple has lost the importance of having and seeing an overall big picture, and have made thinness a stupid value in and for itself. Now it turns out that this silly policy has its tradeouts, or really bad consequences: Vibration (also on the screen!) when listening to the normal sound of the device...

This is just too idiotic.
No whats idiotic is keeping a $500+ device you are not satisfied with. One second you guys complain about the sound. Apple makes the speakers louder and folks now complain it vibrates. If the Air2 wasnt thinner or lighter people would complain its too heavy.... No device is perfect. Choose the best device for your needs.

You have options. Even my iphones vibrated when sound comes out. You know what youre getting. You can stop denying the laws of physics....or you can stay bothered. We can agree that the device vibrates when the sound comes out. However you are being hyperbolic. You can critcize without losing your mind.

You mean like the massive failure of mobile me and ping or the antenna problems that happened under the visionary's watch. The term bean counter refers to accounting and finance type jobs not operations and logistics. We dont know the full extent of Tims involvement in Apple's success but it was clearly enough impact that SJ thought Tim was the clear successor to continue executing his vision.

Mine vibrates, but for the little amount I listen to the speakers, it's not a problem. It isn't as noticeable with the case on.

That being said, I like the fact that the speakers are a lot louder.

I just return back from bestbuy to test out this issue, and its was there. Even at 40% you could feel it. Right next to Air2 was last yr Air and only at max volume could you feel it but it was very minor. How could people accept this? Going to hold on to my ipad4.

People accepting it means apple gets away with it without a fix

Everyone is confusion vibration with just too much bassy EQ going on.. a software fix is doable. Vibration is of course soundwaves but I think the two ideas aren't the same. It's like they jacked the bass EQ up way too much and left it there by default.

I'm just worried that when I place the iPad down on a hard surface with no case on I'll hear a buzz or vibration sound.

Would this happen??

For those who think that maybe Apple will make an update soon , but want one now. You can enable Apple Care + and for some reason after the upgrade request the replacement of the device.

I agree. I think Apple will fix the problem through an update. Remember the calibration issues with 5s's last year...Compassgate. They denied all knowledge of the issue and fixed it quietly through a software update.

The amount of vibration really is insane. I can easily feel it through the Apple Smart Case with the volume on the absolute lowest level.

I wonder if a bit of internal dampening material in and around back of speakers would improve things - if it really is as people describe ?

maybe a cheap tweak for Apple if it's what their customers prefer ?

alternative if a specific frequency is causing the issue then maybe a very narrow band can be EQ'd down a bit without effecting overall speaker output quality

I'm going to try one before buying one -was going to get a 64gb Air 2

If you are outside the return period, you'll get a white box refurb, even if you have AppleCare+.

I'll mention that the software update never fixed that problem on my 5s, I had to get it swapped and because I was outside the 15 day period I got a refurb. I later had to get that one replaced, because it started blue screening and got another refurb.

You could wrap the iPad in foam or bubble wrap. It would look horrible, but it should dampen any vibrations.

That's what you call an e-Expert. Gives comments about things but has zero idea of the topic itself. I think Tim's doing well so far and their current direction is in the right place. I'm glad to see Apple products are affordable to everyone ($250 iPad to $850). Regardless of what your income is, if you buy an iPad (even the Mini 1); now you're in the ecosystem and will be thinking about an iPhone or Mac. People complain about having too many choices of Apple products, but when is that a bad thing. From Apple's stand point it may help their growth.

On topic: I haven't noticed any vibration yet, will report back if I do.

I was a tad bummed about the sound coming from my Air 2, found this thread and signed up for the forums to post

The sound from the speakers is a bit turn off but there is no way on earth I'm bringing this thing back. It is sooooo fast. I'm coming from an iPad 4. I ran the Geekbench benchmark app on this Baby and it blew my old pad out of the water. It works faster with everything, screen is way nicer and it is so fricken light. The sound is very bass heavy like people are reporting and it annoys me a bit, but return it? HELL NO! This thing is so cool I'm willing to overlook the sound thing. Peace out guys!
