What a beautiful device the iOS air 2 is. I was at the Apple Store today playing while waiting for my plus. However the vibrating it's annoying as hell even at the lowest setting you can feel it. To bad because it's a deal breaker I'm sticking with my air for now.

Yeah, it really is a nice piece of tech and I would have considered upgrading but I'm not putting up with massive vibrations that can be felt through the screen. That's lame. No way around it.

Well 8.1.1 beta is out, did they do any firmware adjustments to the sound EQ?

That'd be interesting but it might not be that easy of a fix. The Air 2 is simply too light and thin and has therefore sacrificed build integrity to some extent.

The only "real" upgrade from the Air to the Air 2 is the 2GB of RAM but most Air owners are doing just fine as is. Extra RAM is not nearly enough to put up with such a big issue.

This problem is beign reported everywhere too - not just here on these forums.

Especially with the Staples $397 for 32gb Air. :)

Looks like my Air 2 is a goner.

Correction, it's 379 for the Air. Made passing on the Air 2 so much easier.

Oops, typo.

I have both and really the Air 2 regardless of its benefits did not stand a chance given the Staples deal. It will be returned in the near future.

Your totally correct that was the deal breaker for me. Oh well I guess I'll stick around with my Air 1

I think that's only part of the problem. Apple also redesigned the speaker and grille in the Air 2. That likely also has something to do with it.

Compare the bottom facing speakers in the Air:

With the screen facing ones in the Air 2:

Interesting. That could very well have made a difference. Makes sense too seeing as the Air 2 is only a mm thinner and .06 lbs lighter. I wouldn't have thought such trivial measurement differences could have meant such a different chassis strength.

That's not cool. It's one thing to happen at high volumes but even halfway you are saying it was easy to feel through the chassis of the device?

When I had mine (returned) I could feel vibration at 1/3 of the level. I'm not THAT concerned with the back vibrating, but the screen vibrates too. That I can't deal with. The screen vibrates as I tap, type, swipe, pinch and it's unpleasant to me, but not some people. My iPad 3 only has light vibration at max volume.

I have to agree here. I used to run Pandora while I surfed the web at about 1/3 volume and now I don't even bother as it seems to vibrate quite a bit as I hold the tablet. I too traded in a iPad3 which had no such issues even at higher sound levels. It's not a deal breaker but you should definitely try it out in the store before you buy.

The vibration is quite extreme compared to the iPad 4 I'm coming from.

I'm using Spotify in the background as I type this (Felicia Day's Gamer Girl, Country Boy) and I can feel the back vibrate a bit at 6% (one dot) and my finger on the screen if I do a long press. When the bass kicks in its more pronounced.

At thirty percent, the vibration is a little noticeable when I am just typing. The whole unit vibrating in the hand is quite noticeable.

Anything above 13 dots ~80% doesn't sound good as the treble no longer feels in sync with the bass and quickly distorts vocals. It's fine with the few bits of instrumental music I threw at it at that volume.

Also playing sound with the iPad in portrait is horrible compared to landscape. It's like the bass just overpowers with out a buffer to direct the sound towards you the treble / highs just disappear.

So the question for me is, will trying to get a different unit improve matters. Is it just that the speakers / bass is too much for the Air 2 or are the speakers incorrectly fitted in mine (and others) and that makes it seem worse.

Im thinking about purchasing an Air 2, but I have a question about the vibration: is it something you hear also? or just feel to the touch? As in, if you arent holding the ipad while sound is playing, do you hear a 'buzz' sound from the vibration?

Are all iPad Air 2's plagued by this issue? I have no problem walking into an apple store and testing every single one before I buy to find one without this issue, my local stores have plenty in stock

You don't hear it.

All iPad Air 2's are the same in this regard. It's a attribute of the design. Not everyone thinks it's a issue. In fact most people probably don't think anything about it any which way. If it's something that would really brother you than the iPad Air 2 isn't probably for you.

I hold my iPad Air 2 by the back of the smart cover and I usually have the volume down pretty low since I'm usually watching TV at the same time. So I stopped noticing it after a day or two.

I just got mine and I have to say that the vibration is really annoying. My iPad Air didn't have that issue and I am really thinking of returning it. It is really too much, even on low volume. The iPad Air 2 is supposed to be a multimedia device and be the best at many simple tasks. Apple definitely did a bad job here and they need to improve this..
I will try to get used to the vibration but I don't think I can.

No, not at this time.

Just feel. The screen vibrates under your fingertips.

Yes, although some people report it as less of an issue with cellular iPads others disagree. It's not a unit by unit issue like screen uniformity, it's designed in..... until/if they change the speaker modules.

You shouldnt have to. Its absurd that they didnt catch this or even think of it. What a disappointment. The good news is that it'll be quietly fixed with the next incarnation. ;)

Although, it did make the decision extremely easy for us Air owners to stay with our excellent tablets. Saved me money :)

FWIW I can feel vibration on my iPad Air 1 playing music over 50% volume. And it's in an apple case. More noticeable on the bottom half but you can feel it front and back.

Have to see if it's worse or the same on the 2 but I've had the air for a year now and it's never really troubled me.

I also had an Air 1 and it was never a problem. On the Air 2 it is much worse.

Ok, I now have my new iPad Air 2. This whole vibration thing is absolutely nothing. Omg some people are babies. Yes it vibrates some. It's bass, people. This iPad sounds a zillion megawhoops better than my iPad 4. You're just so used to crappy sound it might take time to adjust. A much deeper, richer, more (here it comes) resonant sound. Watching some American Dad on Netflix sounded stupendous, especially compared to the iPad 4 I'm used to. And, very little vibration.

Yes, playing music leads to some pretty strong vibration syncing with the bass. But I'm super happy to trade that for the dramatically improved sound. And, geez, it's not THAT strong, lol. After reading these posts I was expecting a constant vibration like my iPhone makes.

I was pretty concerned about this, as my earlier posts make pretty clear. Now that I've heard it (and felt it) I can say it's hooey. This thing sounds great

I normally never complain about my Apple products which I really love very much, but this time I have to say that everybody complaining is right. This vibration is unacceptable.

Bingo. The updates were pimped hard and a couple of them are nice but overall once you cut through the hype it's not that big of an upgrade if you own an Air 1. I'm happy for those that think it is....excellent for you. But let's not act like it's night and day because it isn't and the screen issue and vibrating issue are tangible problems. Not saying they bother everyone but they bother enough people that several forums are reporting the same thing so it's not just "Macrumors whiners" or whatever. ;)

Well that's debatable, depending what you expect.
-2gb of ram makes a MASSIVE difference in regards to everything
-Touch ID
-Unbelievable A8X
-Nicer screen
-Thinner and lighter with same battery. Battery life on mine is exactly as before (10-11 hours), I don't know why everyone says it's shorter. Same for the vibrating, really?

Quite night and day for me compared to my old Air.

I returned the Air 2 just for this issue alone. The vibration just bothers me too much for me to keep it.

I agree. This device has such a great potential. If only there were no vibration.
I am giving my iPad a last chance. I will try to get used to it, because apart from the vibration everything else is great.
