Alright guys, as promised I wanted to update you. My original post a few pages back.

Summary, bought a S A2 from the store and had 2 dead pixels and light bleed. I returned it to the store and ordered a new S and SG A2 last week from apple.com. S came right away (shipped from a local warehouse) and the SG shipped from China. The SG came today and sure enough still has the vibration.

So there goes the theory that there was a silent fix that someone posted. It didn't seem legit, but none the less, I thought you guys would want to know.

On a side note...
I agree with others it is annoying, it wasn't as nearly identifiable in the original Air, but for someone that uses the iPad 95% of the time while laying in bed before sleeping without the sound. It's not a deal breaker for me. Of course YMWV.

Vibrate

I took my iPad Air 2 into an Apple Repair Centre this morning.

I explained the issue with the tablet vibrating even at low volume, and with the device being so new on the market, they hadn't heard of this issue before. I walked with the repair guy next door to the retail store, and sure enough, the display model did the same thing.

He took down my details, and because I reported it during the 14 day return window, he said it wouldn't be a problem getting a replacement unit down the line if/when Apple quietly release a revised model which doesn't vibrate like crazy. He also recommended that I call Apple Care tonight and explain the same thing so they have it on their record as well.

I recommend everyone doing this if the vibrations are even the slightest concern to you. It has definitely given me peace of mind.

Cheers.

That's not cool. It's one thing to happen at high volumes but even halfway you are saying it was easy to feel through the chassis of the device?

I picked up a display model and opened one of their demo games to try. It defaulted to full volume at first, which made the vibration instantly noticeable. I cranked it down to about half volume, and while it reduced the vibration a bit it was still noticeable. I didn't walk around and try more models, but I'm guessing they are all like that.

I've never owned an iPad so I'm not sure if this has ever been an issue in past years, but it's apparent right away on the Air 2.

The last two sentences are what I was trying to get across in a more snarky way.

Good idea.

I know I'm going to be the zillionth person to comment in this thread, but given that I had to go to an Apple Store today anyway, I thought I'd do my own testing of this issue.

I loaded the Trailers app on an iPad Air 2 and then again on an original iPad Air. Both were in-store demo units. In both cases, I loaded the "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron" trailer and cranked the volume up to maximum in both cases. Here's what I found:

1. There was no sound distortion on either the iPad Air or the iPad Air 2 during playback. The sound itself sounded fine.

2. The iPad Air 2 had more noticeable vibrations than the iPad Air, but both had them.

3. This doesn't seem to be an issue that is the result of anything other than such a thin enclosure (remember the iPad Air 2 is as thin as the fifth generation iPod touch and that's pretty thin even for an iPod); the speakers otherwise sound just fine for being iPad speakers. Much like the original iPad Air, this is an improvement over the speaker in all pre-Air/pre-mini iPads.

4. Vibrations in either iPad Air weren't noticeable until the volume level was over 75%.

5. The vibrations in the iPad Air 2 were something I wouldn't have noticed or cared about if I hadn't read this thread beforehand. I did notice them (but again, only because I read this thread beforehand), but I wasn't at all bothered by them. I'm pretty sure I'm going to file this under "non-issue" and not care about it should I decide to acquire an iPad Air 2 for myself to supplement the original iPad Air that I currently own and use. It is an interesting occurrence and case study though. I'd be interested in seeing how or even if Apple handles it. I don't think they will.

What magical iPad Air 2 were you using? I can feel slight vibrations even if I move the volume up to just one bar. I'm debating taking it back to the store. Sad because it's a great device otherwise.

I rarely have my volume over three clicks, so I would LOVE to have one that didn't vibrate until at 75% lol.

This 'issue' doesn't bother me in slightest. I'm going say it's just how it is on the iPad Air 2's. If it really bothers a person return it and move on with your life. It's highly unlikely you'll see a major revision for this generation device.

That's what I'm doing. Today. I'm a little sad to see "it" go too. :(

I assume everyone complaining of this realizes that dynamic audio speakers generate sound by vibrating the air. It is what allows us to hear sound in the first place.

It's not like this vibration is making your hands go numb or waking the neighbours.

Went to Best Buy this morning and they had the Air 1 next to the Air 2. These reports are incredibly accurate. The Air 2 vibrates a stupid amount through the back, but more importantly through the glass. What an idiotic design decision. Immediately swayed me to the Air 1, which I then price matched from Staples - 379 for the 32 gig model. That's even cheaper than Apple's own refurb pricing.

Nice deal. Enjoy.

People expect speakers to vibrate, not the entire iPad. Similar to how people don't expect their entire car to shake when they listen to the radio in their car (except for those morons who put a subwoofer in their trunk).

Had my iPad air 2 since lunchtime yesterday and love it.
Everything is so fast,no safari problems, it's lighter than I expected and am very happy with it.

About the vibrating.. Yeah it is there, even on low setting of about 3 bars you can feel the back case vibrate and,if turned up too much the front screen vibrates which is annoying. But I tend to use headphones for music, videos and games, but the odd YouTube video is easily avoided by not holding it while it plays as it doesn't distort,it actually sounds really nice, so,I,just rest it on my lap or something if I need it loud.

It's not a deal breaker and the pros outweigh this small con in my opinion.

Screen is very nice and not yellow whites like my wife's mini 2, no other cons for me other than the screen definitely creates more finger smudges than any other tab I've used so keep a soft cloth nearby.

I can understand though people who expect perfection at this price but for me it's only 5% of my usage using the speakers.

Plus I'm loving the finger print unlock feature along with 1password app

It's the extra 1 GB of ram that is causing this issue. Since people can't complain about it only having 1 GB of ram they've found a new 'issue'.

Mine got sent back today. I couldn't get over the vibrations. Other than that "conception flaw", the device is great and I will gladly buy a new iPad air 2 once they fix the speakers, if they ever do.

Hopefully they will fix it before Christmas because if they don't, I think they will expose themselves to a lot of iPads returning back where they came from.

I'm sure someone's hitting the big red button on the production line as we speak. Just like they fixed the rMini gamut issue or the yellow screen issue or the IR issue or the tab reloading issue or the book spine issue..,

Of course but just before hitting the red button, he's reading Macrumors and is happy to see you're mentionning him in your post.

I love it how you people pick on others having this issue. I didn't have vibrations on my Ipad or Ipad 3 , so why should I live with them on the Air 2?

Answer, I shouldn't and that's why I sent mine back.

Absolutely. It's one thing to have some vibrations at higher volumes through the rear of the tablet but feeling through the glass is 100% BS and unacceptable. "Just use headphones" or "don't do that" are NOT helping the issue.

The other thing that comes into play here is that if the vibrations are truly that bad then what does that do to longevity? Maybe it does nothing but it'd make me wonder if down the road a problem could develop due to this? I dunno.

Too bad, really. Just makes staying with my flawless Air even more easy.

What a beautiful device the iOS air 2 is. I was at the Apple Store today playing while waiting for my plus. However the vibrating it's annoying as hell even at the lowest setting you can feel it. To bad because it's a deal breaker I'm sticking with my air for now.

You joke but actually this kind of persistent vibration over long periods of time can have health effects. It would be absolutely ridiculous I grant you, but I wouldn't be that surprised to see someone trying to blame their RSI on this a year or two down the line and starting a lawsuit. You can say don't hold the tablet 24 hours a day watching noisy YouTube videos, but there's nothing in the box from apple that says that..

I just got my iPad Air 2 yesterday. I've never owned an iPad before so I can't compare but I honestly can't see what the big deal is?

I listened to music all the way up and while there is very slight vibration I didn't find it distracting or feel that I had to worry that my hands were going to fall off.
