Well that's debatable, depending what you expect.
-2gb of ram makes a MASSIVE difference in regards to everything
-Touch ID
-Unbelievable A8X
-Nicer screen
-Thinner and lighter with same battery. Battery life on mine is exactly as before (10-11 hours), I don't know why everyone says it's shorter. Same for the vibrating, really?

Quite night and day for me compared to my old Air.

Oh I understand that's it's debatable. It always is. The thinner and lighter is pretty trivial and resulted in this pesky screen vibration problem thats driving plenty of people bonkers. Touch ID is a take or leave it for many people. The screen does flatten things out a bit but at Best Buy I didn't feel as if it was a huge improvement overall.

The RAM can help where the software takes advantage of it. Same for the chip. The a7 isn't exactly a slouch and the Air is a quick tablet as is. I understand that the tab lovers are enjoying safari more now and that's great but not all of us had any problems with tabs on our Air.

As for the "really" comment about the vibration....yeah, REALLY. I could tell right away on the sample I tried at Best Buy. It's not so much the back vibrating but when the screen does then it's a NO go deal. You might not care and use headphones but not everyone does.

If they just would have paid attention to the small details and get off of this thin, thin, thin nonsense then the Air 2 would have been a slam dunk. Instead, it isn't. No skin off my back though. ya'll enjoy it.

Yeah again debatable. Review for the iPad Air 2 been pretty great and the vibrating seems to not bother a lot of people, including me.

I agree. This device has such a great potential. If only there were no vibration.
I am giving my iPad a last chance. I will try to get used to it, because apart from the vibration everything else is great.

Really its bothering you that much? It doesn't bother me at all. The Vibrating is to be expected especially when on max volume since the device is thinner and the speakers are much better.

That's cool. I'm glad you like it. It's a great tablet and the hardware updates are certainly intriguing. I just find some of the little niggling issues too much for me and I'm happy with my Air. I'm not the update every year type anyways. I went from an iPad 2 to the Air.

All good. :)

Yeah that's cool, you have an air anyway so it's fine, it's not like you upgraded from a iPad 2 :D

I normally never complain about my Apple products which I really love very much, but this time I have to say that everybody complaining is right. This vibration is unacceptable.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but that's all it is when you say "everybody complaining is right". I couldn't possibly care less about the so-called vibration problem. It absolutely doesn't bother me at all; I wouldn't have thought twice about it were it not for all the comments here. I scratch my head every time I read a post like this.

Mine got sent back today. I couldn't get over the vibrations...

.I didn't have vibrations on my Ipad or Ipad 3 , so why should I live with them on the Air 2? Answer, I shouldn't and that's why I sent mine back.

When I had mine (returned) I could feel vibration at 1/3 of the level...

I returned the Air 2 just for this issue alone. The vibration just bothers me too much for me to keep it.

Just got off the phone with Apple online. They emailed a FEDEX return label and I will be reluctantly returning my vibrating Air 2 and going back to my Air.

2GB RAM, you will be missed. :(

If it was only when it was Max then that would be one thing, but when the vibration is noticeable when in hand (without case) and playing a game or watching a video on Youtube at a low to middling volume, thats another.

For me it is a large blemish on and otherwise awesome upgrade from my iPad 4.

  • I _want_ TouchID as I have it on my 5S and find it perfect
  • the device is much much faster
  • its a darn sight lighter for holding single handedly for reading
  • its gaming prowess is much improved (though there are virtually no games to take advantage of that, with the App Store pricing situation being shafted one wonders if there ever will be)
  • the screen, or rather the text is noticeably sharper. (I wasn't expecting that, surprised me when comparing the screens)
  • That 2GB Ram helps mitigate that Safari tab reloading / app reloading when multi-tasking (it was bad in iOS 7, worse in iOS 8)

But that vibration is annoying as all heck when your trying to play a game. I showed the issue to my wife this evening, I hadn't wanted to tell her as she bought it for me as a present, and she was very surprised. I'm supposed to decide if she is to return it or not.

Are you deliberately ignoring all the posts saying the screen and back vibrate constantly at merely 3 bars? It's idiotic design.

For portability..headphones
For sitting around... Portable Bluetooth speaker/receiver or Airplay

All sound dramatically better than any of the iPad speakers to date.

This is how I typically use my iPad (also how I used the other two prior iPads I own) . What am I missing?

Blame my English, but what I mean is that all people who are complaining are right. I do not mean that everybody is complaining.

The fact that the world doesn't revolve around you.

That's just it, it doesn't take max volume. I realize that sound=vibration and if I want booming sound I'd live with it, but it's unreal. Even at only a few notches it vibrated more than my ipad 3 ever did. Okay, I'll live with that. At 40% I could feel it through the screen. That is unpleasant. I usually used my iPad at 60% volume and that was uncomfortable.

I know it doesn't bother some people, but it does me. I wanted....I mean REALLY wanted a new ipad. I use my 3 all the time for school and play. My only demand was 2GB of RAM. They finally deliver and then this happens. I'm actually pissed. I never complain about Apple hardware (I do about software), but this is ridiculous. And for what? Like 1 MM? Was it really that great? What about the .04 pounds. I read somewhere on this forum that that was roughly the weight of a Snickers candy bar. Did that really enable all day single handed holding?

The jump in thinness and weight from the iPad 4 to iPad Air was needed. The jump from the Air to the Air 2 wasn't necessary or completely feasible at this time. What did we get? Potential: screen distortion, vibration, decreases battery life?

Yes, the Air 2 is amazing and I still have to resist the urge to get another. Many people love it, but there seemed to be way too many compromises for no real benefit this time around. I'd put that effort into QC so that people didn't need to replace 4 units to get an acceptable screen.

to use the device without a need for external speakers

I was so sad to see the Apple Store lady carry mine away...:(

But the book spine it had made it easier. ;)

A fingertip massage.

That made me smile by the way... :)

Ok, fair enough, I think I get where you're going with this. Certainly those with complants should avail themselves of the return process. I guess I should just be happy I have no such concerns.

Why would I ignore all the posts when I clearly read them and I also own an iPad air 2. Thanks for your useless comment. Maybe you should design the best tablet, see how you will do.

Anal forum posters on mac rumours that believe everyone is having this issue or that their opinion represents everyone's. :D

Ohhhhh I get it. You're one of them. Always good to identify the ultra fanboys and put them on ignore.

This thread is turning down right nasty. Since this a cut and dry issue I think it could be addressed by a simple poll.

Here's the sample poll questions

A) I returned my iPad Air 2 because of sound vibration
B) The sound vibration is a non-factor to me
C) What sound vibration?
D) I'm a iPad Air 1 owner who is looking for a reason not to upgrade
E) I bought the iPad Air 2 specifically for the sound vibration (Don't ask me why)

That tends to happen when people post legit issues and others claim they're made-up, unimportant, or tell them that they shouldn't be issues at all. Hell, it's so bad on this forum with the fanboys that there's actually a thread entitled "stop complaining".

I read almost everything here and I have too returned my iPad Air 2 to Apple because it only vibrated already at three bars. I have my second copy now and have just finnished same sound-test I did yesterday and the day before with my iPad Air 2 nr. 1. So my iPad Air 2 nr. 2 vibrates as well yes. I went also to my swedish biggest local stores (Siba and Elgiganten), and yes, they also vibrated when I played. But however, this new one didn't vibrated that much at three bars, standard from factory is six bars and there I noticed the vibrations. Yes I could feel the soundvibrations a bit on three bars as well and yes they felt through the Apple Smart Case as well, when you for example play a game. Or watch a Movie. When you go for a bit higher than six bars, maybe let say eight, I've noticed that it feels almost like my cars sub. So the stereosound is truly fantastic! :D

However, I will not return mine because of this. I can live with the #vibrategate. And especially for me comming from an iPad 2 (the brick), everything feels great. Also, if you take a good look what's inside it, what kind of GPU it is, you too will accept these sound vibrations no matter how weird they are. Because this iPad beats the crap out of everything that's on the market and will keep doing that even next year.

I will keep mine because I don't want to wait for next year and next and next and the next after that to decide to buy that "perfect iPad", because nothing is perfect in this world. And this one will rock for a very long time and with it's spec that are as powerfull as a 2013 MacBook Pro.

So you can spend weeks to return it back or fourth or just enjoy this. Because it IS really awesome. And I love the Touch ID, the lightness it gives (compared to my iPad 2 brick). I was about to change it to iPad Mini 3, but when I saw the price between them, I would be an idiot to buy a Mini 3 when I can have a superpad for just little bit more money.

Cheerios! ;)

this is the problem with slimmer design...you feel everything
try even with a little pressure (not much) to bend the ipad from behind...little bubbles will appear on the screen because of lamination and slimmer design..

I hope next ipads will no go under 6.1mm

I am amazed at the relative shallow level of this discussion. High End audio has created devices that are both thin and vibration resistant. So has the aerospace industry. Everything audio has points that excite vibration and equipment resonances. It it even possible to tune resonances to achieve particular audio effects.

I am not saying the iPad Air Air 2 does not vibrate and I am not saying that it is not annoying. I am saying that it's component choices and their positioning and therefore their ability to excite chassis resonance, my not be related to the reduced thickness. The issue of vibration is very complex.

To be really fruitful, the discussion needs to move away from its focus on thinness and be much more technically based.
