other manufacturers called it as a designed feature called a haptic feedback. maybe apple could market it as an amazing real life experience of sounds waves...

I agree. Or, they'll mention the issues in passing almost like they are shrugging it off as no big deal. Right.

It's a real problem and it's obvious by the number of folks posting on forums about it that's it's fairly widespread. Earbud users and whomever else don't apply but the rest of us sure do apply.
Reading tech reviews nowadays is very similar to tweens reading popstar heart throb interviews in Seventeen or Bop magazines. They're not rushing to find facts, they're reading because of excitement and they'll take anything they can get. But the problem is that often times the most of the interesting stuff is glossed over and rushed while the negative stuff is downplayed or overlooked because the reviewer has just as much "Bieber-Fever" as their readers.

This is why discussion boards are so important. The people labeled as "complainers" are often talking about the real world issues that "professional" reviewers overlooked or shrugged off. Sometimes a complaint can get addressed (Camera Roll), but sometimes its just something you have to live with (Fragile lightning cables). I'm hoping the vibration issue is something that gets enough user complaints that Apple can fix it because the Air2 is a device worth owning.

Interestingly, I originally had a 128GB cellular/wifi from Apple and did not really notice the vibration effect on that unit. I received another unit from Verizon and it was totally noticible, the whole damm screen viberates and the back viberates really badly and this is really really annoying!

No matter which angle you hold it the viberation is present and I have to agree with others here, it is a bothersome issue. Not probably a deal breaker but it
Totally blows my mind that Apple would not have fixed this obvious issue before releasing the unit.

I have not returned the one from Apple yet and will double check this on Monday before I send it back. I could be wrong but I would have thought I would have noticed this before.

Will monitor this thread to see if this issue is indeed addressed in newer production runs. I have 2 weeks to decide.

Well, here the response from Anandtech regarding the distortion and vibration issues in the comments section of their most recent review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8666/the-apple-ipad-air-2-review

So looks like they also saw the issues, but they don't think it's a big deal.

I guess everybody needs to make their own conclusions about this. I will probably buy one today and see. But I get the impression a lot of comments in this thread here are from Air 1 owners that want to convince themselves that their Air 1 is better than Air 2 and there is no need to upgrade.

no ipad - waited for new air, tested on 7 pieces, both issues there 7 out of 7, for me this is poorly designed and i dont get it, how this might get through internal apple testing

I do not see this as being fixed any time soon. There are many factors such as component design and component placement which contribute to chassis resonance. The solutions are not always self evident and may involve a series of trade-offs AND it may have nothing to do with the thinness of the device. Those who think that a simple patch will solve the issue or that it is due to Apple's preoccupation with thin, may be naive. Chassis resonance and how to control it, can be rather complex.

I agree. I have been using my Air 2 for the last hour and watched a couple of Videos. My fingers feel numb and it's really not worth the effort on my part. The problem is that I don't want to get last year's model again, I just want an Air 2 without this sound vibration. I am really disappointed and I cannot understand how Apple didn't think that this could be an issue for some of us. I am returning it back to Apple.

Not to sound like a jerk but my fingers feel numb if I hold anything steady for an hour+. I've used game controllers for years with haptic feedback and it never caused additional discomfort to my fingers. Of course you're entitled to your opinion.

Tried 3 display models in an apple store and the vibration wasn't bad. My 16gb I bought as a test unit is horrible. I guess some are worse?

I'm not sure this is something fixable. My thick android phone vibrates too in certain conditions. It just feels like a normal thing to me.

BTW, those speakers on the Air are LOUD! VERY NICE.

I can see this being an issue for some people. This is why I say, you should go to the store first and check it. This tablet is not for online purchasing. If possible try it first.

I would assume because you are able to use your ipad in the comfort of your own home and can take the time to be more discerning, that you would notice the vibration more.

Has it been said here that despite the vibrations, the new speakers just sound a heck of a lot better than the old ones? I'll admit that for my use that better sound is a lot more important to me than worrying about the vibrations.

Is it a cellular or non-cellular iPad? Some are saying that makes a difference.

Doubtful. Not much difference between the 2 versions. 128GB cellular here. Highly annoying at 3 ticks and after 5 minutes holding it in a Smart Case. Didn't notice it at all with 128GB Verizon iPad Air previously.

I think Apple PR is manipulating things. Surprising no journalist has written something about #vibrationgate given the level of attention the issue is receiving. #bendgate got a lot more press with fewer reported issues.

I do doubt most of the tech reviewers even used the speakers before publishing their reviews. Apple PR in the mix again?

Email tcook@apple.com or ive@apple.com if you want it fixed.

iPad Air 2 sound vibrating!

The speakers are great. I watched the latest Hobbit trailer in full hd and it was awesome.

Actually I have emailed him and told him I want an iPad Air 2 that doesn't vibrate as much. I told him that design is how it works and not how it looks and that the iPad's design is bad.

It's not the same feeling. My fingers feel numb after 2 minutes of listening to anything on my Air 2.

I agree. My last day to return my Air 2 was yesterday and I was tempted. However, I don't use the internal speakers that much so although they are irritating I decided I could live with it.
The Air 2 is very good but it still freezes and the wifi hangs occasionally but hopefully these little glitches will get fixed in a future patch.

Is yours 128gb? Not sure if a patch will fix that if it is, in relation to TLC NAND issues. If it's less than 128gb then a patch will most likely fix the probs. :)
Going back all those years to the iPad 2, I had wifi issues straight up but it eventually settled down without any updates.

Add me to the list. Just a 16 GB wifi. But at any sound level the vibration is there. I thought it wasn't a big deal but my finger tips start to feel numb after just play clash of clans for 4 mins.

My iPad has restarted once and frozen twice but my 6+ does that so I think that could be solved via a software update.... The speakers though, ****ing unusable.

I do wonder if Apple really did manage to scare the press out of reporting negativity of any sort by blocking specific journalists from further press events.

I hate any "gate" stories, but it really is curious that "bendgate" got so much press despite it being a miniscule sample size while the Vibration issue gets zero press while it is visible on every Air 2 (Everyone admits excessive vibration exists, the difference seems to be purely based on tolerability).

Maybe its because phones are a lot more popular than tablets, but you cant help but wonder if it's journalists just trying to avoid Apple's naughty list. (And if thats the case, shame on them.)

Journalists and lawyers..These two professions shouldn't exist..

Of course it vibrates (if that's what you want to call it), it's called sound, sound moves air and causing vibrations at high levels! DOH!

Yes, and companies make designs to minimize this effect. Compare the Air 2 to ANY other iPad out there..
The difference is significant.

I like Apple a lot, but this is unacceptable.
