And there are more than a few Apple apologists that confuse design flaws with MAGIC.

If likely my iPad Air 2 makes me an Apple apologists than I'm guilty. I'm not a fan of the bumpy ride I get in a sports car with a tight suspension but I wouldn't call it a design flaw.

you hate the statement but each device he created was his idea. For nowadays Apple lack of ideas, innovations !!!!
plus see how some futures from ios on is not useful at all, they just repeating android, what is sad :(, some app become not convenience in use.
Call to customer service (have you notice how it become low of quality. Have you spoke before to them. If yes, you can see the difference.
Apple made not narrow direction speaker inside and now we feel vibration, that is not normal thinks to an apple. Unfortunately not everyone understand that main person gone and apple will not be anymore quality apple. (probably, for my opinion)

I agree with what you said but it is off-topic to your original argument about there being less issues with products launched while Jobs was at the helm.

Does a case alleviate the vibration issue?

I have been planning on getting the new iPad Air 2 on Black Friday and giving my original Air to my husband who still has a 3. Plus the Safari reloads on my Air have been a major annoyance/turnoff for me so the 2 GB RAM is very appealing. My iPad is in a folio case 99.9% of the time. Does putting the Air 2 in a case alleviate the vibration issue? If not, I am thinking I will not upgrade and wait for next year.

The sports car analogy *seems* like it should work here but it doesnt. Why? Because with a sports car we EXPECT it to ride rougher than our sedan.

In the case of the Air 2, I highly doubt anyone sat there saying "Boy, I cant wait for the new Air 2 to be released with 2GB of RAM, a faster chip, and the vibrating". No one "expected" or "assumed" it would vibrate as badly as some of them do.

Thats the difference.

The problem with the sports car argument is that you're buying an entertainment device, not a race car.

The bad speakers make the iPad air 2 "not fit for purpose." Listening to music or watching a movie is just plain torture.

After returning my iPad air 2 I got a refurb iPad Air v1. No problem with the speakers. When the new version is worse than the old version that is plain and simple design failure. Fuzzy arguments and bad analogies can't hide bad design or bad quality control.

The only question is whether the improvements outweigh the defects.

Fact: bad speakers.

Fact: some people have more sensitive ears and are tortured by bad speakers.

I got a cheap £8 Apple clone folio case and I can't feel any vibrations now.

I tried an ipad air 2 and the sound vibrating is just pain in the ass.... i didnt notice if the volume was set in highest setting but the vibration was like doing powerplate on your hands. The sound quality is not bad but that thing is vibrating all over the place.... its not just one spot... all the chassis is vibrating. So i have 2 questions...

1) Is it sth common on all ipad air 2's or some others vibrate less? If so does Apple replaces it?

2) In which sound level does the vibration starts?

ps - honestly i couldnt believe Apple released a product with such behavior....unacceptable.

I thought this was a thread about vibration FELT on the iPad and not the quality of the sounds. Many people have commented the sound is BETTER on the iPad Air 2 not worst. Now we can't even get straight what the real issue is.

Everyone here who works for Samsung please raise your hand. :p

Just returned air 2 because of vibration, anyone know if it's worth to buy air 1 or wait for another year? I regret trade in my old ipad too early.

iPad Air is good and cheaper. You could be waiting for something that never happens.

thats why i didnt trade in my ipad4 to bestbuy. Went there to test out the speaker on the ipad2 air and the vibration was horrible even on low volume. I decided to wait another year to do the trade in for the New Air. Hopefully this issue will be fix by next yr.

The Air is a fine tablet and mine has always been good to me. IMO, the Air 1 is a great buy right now. fast, light, easy to handle, etc.

Thats my take on it.

I've been following this thread for a week now since I also noticed this issue and figured I'd chime in. I haven't gone through all 30 pages, but is there anyone that doesn't have this vibration issue? Or found a display model that doesn't?

I think I've only come across two users in the Apple forums who claimed they don't have this issue: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6629452?start=0&tstart=0. I find that a bit surprising (unbelievable?) since it certainly seems to be the norm that the iPad Air 2 will vibrate based on the comments here and elsewhere.

I'm not sure how I feel about this issue yet, but it definitely felt a bit awkward playing Monument Valley with a vibrating screen due to the low/bassy tones that game has. I'll most likely be keeping mine since I got a great deal on it and everything else about it is perfect. Hopefully I'll be able to get used to it that I don't even think about it anymore.

Try playing Carmageddon on this iPad, the engine makes for an interesting experience.

I've swapped my Air 2 for another, and it's largely the same. I'd say the bass / volume is slightly better but not by much.

(Backlight bleed is better and worse. Overall it's more even, though you can see the bleed change a bit at the bottom right in portrait depending on where you hold the device.)

Amusingly as we are now that little bit closer to Xmas, rather than having 14 days to return it, I have 14 days starting from Christmas Day as we're at the time of year where they assume some are being bought at presents. Kind of insane :)

- edit -

As I can't see a strike through option here, I take back a bit of what I said. The vibration at the lower volumes (3-5 dots/squares) is definitely better than the previous Air 2 I had. It may not be at a level I'd like compared to previous iPads, including my Wife's gen 1 iPad Mini, but definitely at a level where I could/may put up with it. That said, holding my finger on the screen while playing music at 7 squares definitely leads to a numb tip of finger. I find it hard to believe they tested this device while playing games with sound on.

I can't say for sure that I don't have the issue, but it's so minor that I honestly never would have thought twice about it were it not for this thread. It has never bothered me, even a little.

That said, my device in the hands of another user might well be perceived as a trembling, hand-numbing tablet. I really can't say.

Clearly this is an issue that's very much in the eye (err, hands) of the beholder. I feel bad for the folks that are really bothered by it, that's a huge bummer. But I'm pretty sure those individuals are in the minority (fortunately for Apple).

i hate to say it, but after using my moms ipad 4 (my old ipad) and listening to the music from my ipad air 2, i hate the sound of the ipad 4. It sounds flat and lacking bass. I have to admit i like the vibration of the ipad air 2 with the better sound quality

Just my 2 cents, and maybe the the opinion of the thousands of ipad air 2 users out there that may not know that the vibration maybe a side effect of enhanced sound quality

What magical iPad Air 2 were you using? I can feel slight vibrations even if I move the volume up to just one bar. I'm debating taking it back to the store. Sad because it's a great device otherwise.

I used three different iPad Air 2 models in two different Apple Stores. At full blast, I got no distortion, and the vibrations, while noticable, were something I only noticed because I had read this thread before performing that test. Sounds like a non-issue being blown out of proportion.

Serves the pro-thinness community right, I guess. It's not like the original iPad Air was too thick.

There's videos comparing the sound on the Minj 2 and the Air 2 and the Mini 2 is noticeably better, even when playing it on my iPad 2. The Air sounds muffled and distorted compared to the Mini.

I LOVE my air 2 to vibrate, gives me an impression of BIG sound :)
Can't see the problem, if it annoys you, simply turn the volume down.
There, I fixed it for you :)
Can we close this POINTLESS thread..?!

You must be first in line for in vitro fertilization of Jony Ives love child. The "BIG sound" you're referring to is as relative as how annoying the vibrations are to someone else.

If the vibrations are annoying at 3 ticks, pretty sure there is nowhere left else to go unless you're in a sensory deprivation tank.

IMO the other problem people have with this is Apple execs' incessant monologue about design then they feign complete ignorance and play deaf, dumb, stupid when they have a #designfail.

Dont get me wrong, I'm a fan, had every version of iPhone. iPad and iPod since they launched, but I'm calling shenanigans because there most likely is a design or manuf process issue.

Read the thread, IMO big negatory with Smart Case but there may be something better.

They are definitely the best and biggest sounding iPad speakers, and of course thanks to physics in the thinnest iPad yet, they also cause noticeable vibration. Doesn't bother me and is totally worth the new generation of speakers, but others dislike it. The speakers on the iPhone 6 models and new iPad air 2 are just too much better. I can't believe some people want to go back to the old speakers over vibration.

Ya know what? I think you are onto something here! I suggest Air 2 users simply MUTE the device altogether. That'll take care of the problem.

Good call. Excellent advice, thanks.

If you didn't buy at least two iPad air 2's then you aren't a real Apple fan. Go buy another iPad, it's what Steve would have wanted.

and the screen distortion gives you a great feeling about touching the heart of air2 :) and turn the screen off if it annoys :)

I do think that everything that can be said on this subject has been said.

Potential purchasers have been warned.

Apple has been notified should anyone there ever read this stuff (I'm guessing they don't).

Naysayers have denied or minimized the issue.

Nothing left to post or read until someone thinks Apple has slipped in a fix. Someone bump the thread when that happens. Until then, sleep.
