The point is that if they introduced exactly the same features but branded it an iPad Air 3- they would not have been able to jack up the price by £100!!!

Calling it Pro was just the driver (excuse/marketing tool/whateva u wanna call it) to jack up the price!

And they wouldn't have been able to increase the price why? Apple decides the price, no one else.

haha, I bet you don't do it on every post though.

I most certainly do not lol.

Ok that's enough of that, it's even annoying me :D

Sigh. These arguments are crazy. We all have our preferences in devices, some need to defend that decision to the bitter end, and nobody will change the other's mind.

The better camera for me is handy just for taking photos of handwritten notes from paper and being able to write notes over them. I get so impressed with the quality of the shot because you would would swear the piece of paper was sitting on top of the screen when you look at it. And when writing notes over it, you would think they were part of the photo. I'm just saying we all have features we enjoy about the devices we have. 12.9" is too big for me, but perfect for someone else. Doesn't make my reasons for enjoying mine more valid than you enjoying yours.

Can't we all just get along?

I wonder why people defend their Apple purchases all the time. Like seriously, you already got ripped off by paying $650 for a phone that cost $200 to manufacture. People don't want to feel like they made a bad decision and will do anything to defend their purchases, I guess.

It's a nice sentiment and I agree completely that we are all going to prefer different things, it's only natural.

But pointless "debates" on here will never end. Still, at least sometimes they can be fun ;)

I'm not saying that they may or may not be excessively priced. But there's far more to the cost than simply just the manufacturing. There's the billions spent in developing it, thousands of people's wages, tooling costs and so on and so on. It all adds up and it's all got to be recouped along with a profit.

True, but Apple isn't worth over $700,000,000,000 for nothing! :p

Yeah. They are a business, they exist for one purpose and one purpose only. To make money. Do you think it's just Apple? Samsung, LG, Microsoft, Sony, Google, feel free to add any others. All of them exist to make money, all of their products cost significantly less to manufacture than they sell for even after development costs and everything else. Apple just tend to be better at it, so they make more money.

No business on the planet would consider any other way, they aren't going to sit in meetings and say, well, were making too much money. What products can we lower the price on so that we make less, it's only fair, why do we need all of this cash anyway.

Exactly. And people, knowing this, still defend Apple products to no end.

Just as people will defend their Samsung phones or their Microsoft Surface, or their Playstation, or Xbox or whatever. People will always tend to defend the products they purchase because it's their preference.

I'll defend Apple products to a degree, why not. They make good reliable hardware, iOS and OS X are good operating systems and you know what, Apple have the best customer service I have experienced in over 30 years of buying technology.

Ah, I'd though I just add something to the discussion that really bothers ME about the recent 9.7 Pro (obviously not everyone is going to feel this way). First, there is the price increase and calling the 9.7 a "Pro" machine, when every other generation of the iPad that has been improved in various hasn't had a price increase.

BUT if you don't feel you want to pay the premium for the iPad Pro, but want 128 Gb, you can't buy an Air 2 (unless you find old stock, or buy used). For 128 Gb, you have to buy a "Pro." That's typical Apple up-selling - so sure an Air 2 is still an option. But only if you want 64 Gb or less. I load a ton of movies on my 128 Air 2, so 64 wouldn't be enough. I'll be hanging on to it for a while yet.

My thing is, I never have to defend any brand or purchase, etc. I buy what I want, and I don't buy things I don't want. Easy, simple.

It's not particularly unusual, the Air 2 is now last generation. Apple tend to keep the previous generation around but limit it to the ones that sell the most.

The whole Pro thing is blown out of proportion, at the end of the day it's just a name. It's there to distinguish it from the previous generations, just as Air distinguished that product line from the previous iPads.

The fact that there's been a price increase has nothing to do with the naming, it was going to happen regardless. It's unrealistic to expect pricing of a product to remain static just because previous generations have had alter same price.

The price is based on many things, the obvious materials cost, manufacturing, tooling, development cost, paying everyone involved, marketing budget and many other things before they even put their profit markup on.

We've been lucky that the price has remained static for so long. I mean, did the Surface 4 launch at the same price as the Surface 3. Do any of Samsungs tablets stay at the same price point every single year. No, prices fluctuate, Apple do better than most to avoid this but from time to time it is going to happen. Regardless of the name, the spec or anything else. It's just a fact of business.

So true, I do the same myself, I only ever buy the things I want and I research the arse off them first so I always know I'll be happy with my purchase. Never bought anything I wasn't happy with.

I honestly do not understand how people find the need to complain or whinge about their purchases. If you're not happy with it, why the hell did you buy it in the first place. It makes no sense whatsoever.

If you're not going to have satisfaction from a product, it you don't consider it value for money. Steer clear of it, there's myriad other choices out there.

Still, it's sometimes entertaining debating these things.

I love my IPP 12.9", and this is exactly why I hate APPLE. I say that about the company, not the devices of theirs. They make good s***. At the same time though, they charge extremely high prices for stuff that Android has had for years. The side by side view, was done on the Note Tablets, and in my opinion much better. They keep adding little bits here and there, and charging more like it's the latest and greatest. Most likely you'd find this stuff on other Android Devices already.

I'm not saying that everything Apple has done has been done already, but they just keep baiting the line with little features to add, that really, you should be getting more for the money they are asking. Just my thoughts. I have a Mac and the IPP 12.9, but I will never own an IPhone, because too much restraint by Apple and I like my phones free of that constraint. Yes, I come from Android, but this has always been the biggest problem I had with Apple. More $$$$$, for less hardware or software advantages. I actually see Android doing a little what Apple is doing, which bothers me. I'll always have more freedom on Android though. I know you can Jailbreak Apple Devices, but I can still live with Android and that's without being Rooted. Plus I have the choice to do so with that also.

Sorry, didn't mean to get off subject. Just nice to see other Apple People talking about their really high prices and how they don't seem justified.

It's nothing new with Apple, I've been buying their products for a long time and they've never been what you'd consider priced fairly against the market.

But I, and is guess a lot of other people, but Apple products for the overall experience, not just the hardware or software, it's a combination of several factors.

I tried going Android years ago, but just didn't like it at all. The OS isn't as straightforward as iOS and when I had hardware trouble with my Note, the customer service from Samsung was shocking compared to Apple. It reminded me a lot of why I switched from Windows to OS X.

So we all have our preferences and thank god for that, imagine how how horrible it would be if we all thought the same and liked the same things, ewwww ;)

If that is how you feel, why buy Apple?

To agree with Trueblue, I hate windows. Suffered one virus too many for my taste, so I saw my buddy's 27" mac and bought the next Generation. I could have bought three High End Windows machines for what I paid. It's paid off now, but boy, lot's of $$$. And I have problems with that sometimes too, so not perfect. I will agree also, Samsung Customer Service Blows! I find more on the forums and online, than most of the tech guys on Samsung or Apple. The forums are great for that and getting things solved. Apple does have good support though, once you get past the first line of techs. After that, much better.

So that's my reason for the Mac, now for the Ipad Pro. I still own my original 10.1 Note almost 4yrs old now, but Battery will not last forever, so started looking at what's out there. I was hoping that this fall Samsung would come out with Either a new 10.1 or 12" Tablet, but no, they went the Surface Pro route with the Tab Pro S. I had both the Windows Surface Pro 3 I3 processor and the SP 4 I5 processor, they both got extremely hot and the fans drove me nuts. I hated windows 10 also. So I came to the conclusion all I needed was a Tablet, not a hybrid of both.

I was looking at a Cintique 13" HD, but I hated being tethered to my mac. So all that was left was the Ipad Pro. I had one before the one I have now and returned before the return period ended, because I wanted/needed a floating browser. I can have that on my Note 10.1. Not on Ipad Pro. When I seen a list online of tablets coming out this year from different Manufacturers, I saw Samsung was not making any more Note tablets this year, so I went and tried the IPad Pro.

The pluses are that I can draw right on it, it's a Tablet, and the Apple Pencil works great for drawing. I give credit where it's do. So I bought the IPP 12.9 a second time and am keeping it. I said I don't like how much they charge, but as Trueblue said, good customer support, they make good products (far from perfect though, sometimes they don't just work), and really the only choice now. I like both Android and Apple now, still lean a little more towards Android, but not going to Knock Apple when it's got something good. That Said, it is overpriced. I don't have to buy it true, but if no other options and you need something, you get what you can. And I love what I got.

A £100 is a huge jump- nonsense it would have happened if he did not come with a pro name. Apple would never have been able to pull that off

Yeah we all know a company can charge what they are want.... No news there

Really, boiling it down, why do you care what others do with their iPad ... sheesh.

I don't care, I just think it look stupid. It's what's generally referred to as an opinion. You have yours, I have mine, other people have theirs. That's generally how it works.

Of course they could have pulled it off, there's nothing written in stone as to what an iPad should cost. Just because you want the price to remain the same doesn't mean it has to.

I honestly don't understand the issue people have with the price. If you don't like it, don't buy it, it's not compulsory. I bought the 12.9" and I never whinged about the price, I looked at its hardware, its potential and thought, yes that will give me value for my money and it has. If I thought it was over priced I wouldn't have bought it, plain and simple, it's a non-issue.

It's beyond unrealistic to expect any product to remain at a single price point for the entirety of its existence regardless of the market changes, the technology used, the cost of development, the cost of marketing, the cost of running and expanding your business and so many other factors it would take pages to write it up.

Would you run your business to make as much money as you can, or to provide products at as low a price as you can? I sure as hell don't sit about thinking, you know what I charge my tenants too much rent, I should lower it so they have more money and I'll pay all of the expenses out of my savings.

Does liking South Park define maturity though?

My father in-law is a successful businessman, a college lecturer and likes Tom and jerry and doctor who.

I'm 42, have two businesses, provide for and look after my family. Care for my father and mother who both have health issues even though I've a serious injury myself. I help the elderly residents around where I live, I help with and donate to charity, among many, many other things. And I like spider-man, have an obsession with collecting Ninteno memorabilia, have a huge collection of games consoles and I like doctor who, does that make either myself or my father in-law immature?

I don't think there's any real correlation between what a person may like and their capacity for maturity.

Thank you for that excellent comment. I wonder if people know how old South Park is? Very old is the answer, started in 1997, so it's 19 years old! I also think Android is cool, hence my avatar.
And as for time rules everything, it does, it is the fourth dimension.

And Miss Coleman will be truly missed, she was a very pretty thing to mix up the monsters, sigh.. Excited to see where the new assistant goes with the character.

Also picking on a persons avatar or signature is like picking a personal fight with them, it shows lack of maturity and of sensible argument, your thought process is dropping to neanderthal levels.

Your examples are hilarious. Who's talking about price cuts? If the rental demand in your area was slowing (and you've been keeping rents stable or increasing gently each year- would you suddenly jack up rent by 20% by putting in new Windows and carpets.

I don't understand why you are arguing anymore? You under your own free will bought an iPad Pro 9.7" knowing full well how much it cost and it's features.
And then you have under your own free will argued on here for two day's about it's cost?
Is that normal?

Just take it back. Life is too short.
