I'd use Chrome but Apple gimp third party browsers by not allowing them to run at "full speed" so that Safari has an advantage.

What do you mean with full speed? Mercury is fast as Safari, if not faster. And a lot lighter.
On the contrary I don't appreciate chrome, even on my Nexus. And frankly I don't trust Google when it's about my browsing experience....

Safari is given access to Nitro JavaScript where Third Party browsers aren't (on iOS 7). On iOS 8 all browsers have the access but it's not a reason for me to sacrifice overall UI fluidity for a different browser so I don't see the UI sluggishness.

As for privacy, I don't trust Google either ... but then I don't trust any tech company or service. We are being data mined by them all, some are blatant and don't care that we know while others smile to our faces and mine behind our backs.

The Air 2 has legs, and it will stretch them eventually, but right now anyone insisting there is an instant and immediately perceivable difference or "wow" factor in terms of performance is bending the truth.

I 100% disagree with you. I know I notice a difference and I'm not "bending the truth" Your opinion is just that...opinion and not fact ;)

Yup Air 2 on iOS 8.1.2 is much faster and smoother than Air 1 on 8.1.2.

I had both in front of me for a while and it's a fact, not just some random personal opinion.

iOS 8 has purposely made Air 1 a complete piece of shaite. I hate Apple for that. But adding 50-100 dollars or pounds to get Air 2 is a wise decision.

No, that would be your perception. For many of us Air owners, our tablet is smooth as silk and runs perfectly good. I'm sure the Air 2 might show some differences here and there but nothing groundbreaking. Nuh uh. :)

Truly love the iPad Air 2

I bought the iPad 2 Air with Verizon service---Over very awesome iPad

Thanks shayla mihaly

So the iPad Air 2 seems to have the following problems:
- screen distortion
- slow flash
- vibrations caused by the spreakers

So it's better to wait for the iPad Air 3 or iPad Pro?

- I have no screen distortion
- It's very fast, compare it to anything flash in daily use. It's not slow at all.
- Put you hand next to a stereo speaker and turn it up loud. They all vibrate, that's how sound is made. It's not distorted, just louder bass than before.

I've owned all the iPads, this one is lightyears ahead of the others. Wonderful device.

Now you'll be stoned by a little crowd of haters :D

Now you'll be stoned by a little crowd of haters :D

There are people who love to embellish (often called fanboys)
There are people who love to hate-embellish (often called trolls)

There are people who simply state the obvious reality, they get stoned by both the fanboys/haters. I'm used to it.

Tap the omnibar on Safari while on a website and watch the sluggish animation as the address highlights and slides left to reveal the full address (ignore the keyboard coming up from the bottom of the screen).

It's horrid. And it does it on every iPad Air I've tried in different stores. The animation Siri is activated (as it fades in) isn't as smooth and returning to the home screen when in Spotlight is also sluggish as the home screen fades back in and the blur effect fades.

Add the keyboard typing delay (it's nowhere near as responsive to type on) and slow WiFi and it's a world apart. I can touch type on iPad as well as I do a physical keyboard and the delay leapt out at me.

And a Jet Set Radio doesn't work on iOS 8! :D

I honestly don't have any of the issues you list above (except I don't know anything about Jet Set Radio).

Safari is smooth and doesn't have the sluggish animations. Fading back to the home screen from Spotlight has no issues of sluggishness. I have no keyboard delay, and WiFi is WAY faster for me.

I don't doubt your experiences, but I'm not having them here.

It's simply a case of you not being able to notice them or not having a previous experience to compare them too. Or both.

I was in the Apple store playing around with an Air on iOS 8.1.2 and Safari is still horrid, the sluggish animation when you tap the address in the omnibar as it slides left is just nowhere near as smooth as iOS 7.1.2 or as smooth as it is on iOS 8.1.2 on iPad Air 2. The iPad Air is simply a far better and smoother experience on iOS 7.1.2 than it is on iOS 8. In terms of UI smoothness and fluidity iOS 7.1.2 on iPad Air is identical to iOS 8.1.2 on iPad Air 2.

The animations I speak of aren't stuttery or super slow, they're probably acceptable to most, but they're not as smooth as iOS 7.1.2 and for me that detracts immensely from the experience. Even typing this post right now on my iPad Air on 7.1.2 is a dream, I can touch type with no issue whatsoever but the slight delay/input lag on the iOS 8 keyboard made my Air horrible to type on.

Be grateful you don't notice!

He didn't notice because it doesn't exist.... There is no sluggishness on my iPhone or iPad running iOS 8.1

Well considering I went from original iPad 2 to a iPad Air 2 I can say it is more then worth it. I held out for a long time as I did not see a reason to upgrade. I skipped the iPad Air 1 because it did not come with touch ID. After having it on my iPhone I swore I would not get an iPad without it. I can say I did not realize how much better a retina screen on an ipad is but man I am loving it.

Huge jump from an iPad 2.

Yes it does. You simply don't notice it. The animation on the above section of Safari that I mentioned is abysmal on iOS 8.1.2 on iPad Air. It's far smoother on iOS 7.1.2. My 5s is fine, but it's a tiny screen and not pushing the amount of pixels, but still the favourites box on the new Safari and it's transparency effects make the animation when tapping the address in the omnibar sluggish versus 7.1.2 as the address reveals and slides left on iPad Air.

It happens on EVERY iPad Air, I've tried several in store as well as the one I had replaced. It's not as smooth as 7.1.2. You don't see it, congratulations. I did and I had it replaced.

iOS 7.1.2 is a far smoother experience on iPad Air than iOS 8.1.2.

Right. Or, praised incessantly by a little crowd of knob lickers who are in full blown self-justification mode over their Air 2 purchase.

It's all good, boys and girls. :)

Knob licker here. Fully happy with selling that knob shatting Air 1 and purchasing Air 2.

It's just a different animation....
What you wrote works also on the other way: just because you see sluggishness doesn't mean they are here.
It's just a different animation. Clearly you can like it or not, is subjective.
But blaming Apple for something that many others like......

Listen, I won't diminish your experience by saying it's simply your imagination, don't diminish mine by saying I didn't notice since I've nothing to compare to.

I've been working with computer tech. professionally for more than 40 years. I have owned every model of the iPad (and still own most of them), so I have plenty to compare with. I don't have the problems you have listed. Just because you have an opinion that because you have observed certain characteristics in your devices doesn't mean that all similar devices exhibit the exact same or similar behavior.

Just because my equipment doesn't exibit the problems you describe doesn't mean your's doesn't. I assure you, I do notice small details and I don't have the problems that you have.

I've noticed them in every single display model of iPad Air 1 running iOS 8.1.2 in the Apple store. The animation when you tap an address in the Safari onmibar (when the address highlights and slides left as the keyboard comes up from the bottom of the screen) is not as smooth as a) it is in iOS 7.1.2 on iPad Air and b) as it is on iPad Air 2 on iOS 8.1.2.

It's the EXACT SAME animation. Address highlights, slides left, and the keyboard comes up from the bottom at the same time. Only difference is that Favourites are in a box and not a full white page behind the keyboard.
