(7) mac os doesn’t support touch; (8) there is no customer demand for such a thing; (9) nothing, in The entire history of apple, suggests to anyone who has been paying even a modicum of attention to their business methods that they would do such a thing

I’ve been wanting a hybrid iPadOS/MacOS device. If Apple brings Surface-like computing to the iPad Pro line, I will be the first to purchase. A tablet that can run FULL desktop apps? I’m in

RIP anyone that bought the 2020 iPad Pro. That version should have been released only as a dev kit for AR cameras, almost no benefit over the 2018.

Except the double storage, increased ram, and improved processor. These rumors have been going on for awhile now. The other rumor about an iPad Pro if updated this year was a price hike too. Either way The 2020 will be great for years to come.

I bought it last week because my 2017 10.5" Pro was aging and I wanted something bigger and faster to play Ark Survival...and because the world told me the mini-LED iPad Pro wasn't coming until 2021. 😂

all delivery of ipad pro bought later last month and this month are scheduled to after 10-Sep. it is an indicator that ipad pro may be refreshed.
the strange thing is why apple update it in Mar? for developer only?
hope new ipad pro has mini-led.

Good. It's about time we'll finally see USB-C on an iPad that doesn't have "Pro" in the name (why Apple would consider that a "Pro"-only feature in the past is beyond me). Now, they just need to bring it all the way down to the lowest end models. Considering hardly anybody actually uses the extra power an iPad Pro offers, there's pretty much no reason for most to buy it unless you want the bigger one.

To get developers to start writing apps that take advantage of its new AR feature and get users using it, so Apple can use that data and feedback to improve future products (e.g. Glass)

The update in march was because the old version was long in the tooth, so people who hadn’t yet updated to it got a better deal. Not everyone updates their ipad pros every year. Not every iPad Pro update has to be targeted to people who own the prior model.

No, you don't. You just want to have your cake and eat it too. iPad and Mac are completely different products that are worlds part. The fact that they share some of the same space debris in their orbits is a far cry from being the same planet.
And apple will make one someday, and it won’t be the existing iPad Pro.
Nope, they won't. Nothing could be more clear at this point.

I think they will, someday. Switching to Arm will allow them to do all sorts of new things with form factors. The design language of Big Sur, combined with their SwiftUI strategy (which would allow an app designed for mouse to seamlessly re-render for touch) suggest such a device becomes much more compelling to apple.

Really, you can't figure that out? Because "Pro" users are not only the only ones who want USB-C for any reason, they're also the only ones interested in changing cables.
Regular users who buy the regular iPad and iPhone don't know or care what USB-C is, and put much greater stock in the cable/port simply not changing for the sake of changing.

If it suggests that to you, then you simply don't comprehend the vast difference that actually exists aside from silicon and icons.

Fine. But the ipad still doesn’t have enough RAM.

Not to mention, if Apple wants to make a portable touch mac, they will. It will not be an ipad.
Like i said in the last paragraph...if Apple wants to run macOS on ipad pros...they need at least, at minimum 8gb RAM....and 16gb ram we all know its impossible for apple to put into ipad pros...maybe only if they make the ipad pro over 1300$ so thats out of the question
But again...this is just speculation based on what we see....maybe ipad will never run macos...but, again, cursor support, keyboard and trackpad...it will be ashamed not to be able ....tabS7 it has an advantage here with DEX..to have desktop UI when you are using the trackpad or mouse

I have been an iphone OS developer since day one, I designed many CPUs (including the original x86-64 cpus), and I understand exactly the issues here. I’m not sure why you think it would be so hard for apple to make a mac that can be converted into touch? (I’m not suggesting it would run ipados at all. It would simply run macos, in a convertible-to-tablet form factor.). I mean, big Sur ALREADY runs ipados apps. This isn’t rocket science.

The only credibility I give this is that some iPad Pro models are currently out of stock with delayed shipment until 2nd week of September.

Still, Apple refreshing the iPad Pro’s after only 6 months. Seems unlikely.
April 2021 release makes much more sense.
I mean, not that the two really codependent, but if they are having problems releasing the iPhone 12 on time, why would they suddenly release an updated pro so soon.

As far as I'm aware, that has been the shipment time more or less since they were announced...

I literally bought the 11 inch Ipad pro (2020) last week (coming from the 10.5 inch pro) and now I am starting to wonder whether I should return it... argh!!!

I picked an iPad Pro only a couple of weeks ago, with the expectation I'd get at least a year before buyer's remorse set in - this will sting if true...

Yes! Finally the cheaper iPads get the 4 speakers. I really love the 4 speakers feature of the iPad Pros, but I can never justify their prices. I don't need to edit 8K videos, but the 4 speakers will be awesome for watching videos.

This report doesn't make any sense at all. I wouldn't be surprised if the iPad Air gets updated and released next month since they already refreshed the iPad Pro in March. A new iPad Pro with A14 Silicon will probably be the one to launch in March of 2021.

I remember being annoyed with Apple when the iPad4 came out after buying an iPad3.
But you know what, that iPad3 lasted us a few years, so was actually a good purchase, just not as good as the iPad4.

If we get a new iPad Pro soon then it proves that Apple is very serious about augmented reality, and that the 2020 iPad Pro was all about the Lidar for developers and the new AR features.

By the way, the cool new AR features require a minimum of an A12 processor so expect the A10 devices to disappear very soon. I expect that to remain to be the base needed for a few years so those who bought a 2020 iPad Pro still have a solid machine. If the iPad becomes A12, then the iPad Air needs to be A12X/Z and the iPad Pros need to be A14+.

The question for me is the order of upgrading them, if they update the basic iPad first then the Air becomes bad value, if they upgrade the Air that means the basic iPad is stuck on A10 and pretty much obsolete. This is why I think the new iPad will replace the iPad and the iPad Air and have an A12X/Z. I would love a new 11 inch A14x iPad Pro...

I am waiting to see what to buy come Nov/Dec time... I need a Lidar device and want an AS Mac.
