I don’t buy a Pro updated coming out soon, as it was just updated. What would even bring that is different. Won’t be until next year.
Apple will launch the iPad Air 4 in March 2021 with an A14 processor, according to Chinese site MyDrivers.

According to "foreign sources," the report corroborates previous rumors that Apple will bring the iPad Air 4 much closer to the current iPad Pro in terms of design and features. The iPad Air 4 will reportedly have a smart connector on its rear to support the new Magic Keyboard. It is also apparently set to transition from the Lightning Connector to USB-C, and feature four stereo speakers.
The report alleges that the iPad Air 4 will be equipped with an 11-inch Liquid Retina display, and offer storage configurations of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. It is possible that this speculated 11-inch screen size is in fact 10.8-inches, as reported by supply chain analyst Ming Chi Kuo. In either case, the iPad Air 4 looks to have a larger screen size and significantly reduced bezels.
Currently, each of these features are reserved for the iPad Pro only. The iPad Air fills the mid-market gap between the high-end iPad Pro and the entry-level iPad, but the new device will supposedly begin at a higher starting price of $649, $150 more than the current iPad Air 3.
The report also claims that an updated iPad Pro could arrive as soon as next month, presumably alongside new iPhones at Apple's usual fall event. Rumors have however been mixed on when an updated iPad Pro sporting micro-LED technology may arrive, with the earliest projections claiming this fall, and the latest claiming the first half of 2021.

I doubt that there were many excess sales after the release of the 2020 iPad Pro (excess sales = sales that exceed what would have been sold in terms of 2018 iPad Pros if there had not been any new iPad). For anybody that would have bought an iPad Pro anyway, the release of 2020 model just resulted in a slight bonus in the form of more RAM, a bit more graphics power and a better camera.RIP anyone that bought the 2020 iPad Pro. That version should have been released only as a dev kit for AR cameras, almost no benefit over the 2018.
The number of people that ‘upgraded’ from a 2018 iPad Pro to the 2020 model must be rather tiny. At worst some people took the release as a signal that the next major update might only come in 2021 and thus bought one now instead of possibly waiting until October.I don't understand this argument at all. So what if it wasn't a big improvement over the 2018? People could buy it without already owning a 2018.
What would be the point of them continuing the development of iPad OS if the iPad would switch to macOS (Big Sur is clearly labelled macOS everywhere)? How can you be so sure that it wont come to the ipad pros?
What they are rather doing is creating supersets. Where an iPhone (and thus ‘iPhone OS’) can do and run anything the Apple Watch can do and run (as much as the hardware permits), ditto for the iPad compared with the iPhone and the Mac compared to the iPad (and iPhone). How can you be so sure? Apple said so during the keynote but it does look like they are merging the OSes.

Indeed why? Why didn’t you buy one last year? What in the 2020 iPad Pro enticed you that the 2018 one didn’t have?Well why did I buy a new ipad pro in april this year? Thanks, tim apple!
The only things that are the same is that the iPad will get updated twice in one year and that the second update will bring a noticeable performance boost while the first one didn’t. But these two things alone don’t really say whether the first update produced a good or bad model.People who are comparing the (early) 2020 iPad Pro to the iPad 3 are missing the point of what was so bad about the iPad 3 which was it was woefully under powered for the screen resolution, so much so that the iPad 2 was better long term.
The switch to USB-C would also mean no Pencil 1 support.Judging by the illustration in the main article, the only thing sets iPad Air and iPad Pro 11” apart would be Face ID and under screen Touch ID, maybe minus Apple Pencil 2nd gen support.
I'll stick with my Air 2 thanks. Don't see any need to upgrade.

I bought it last week because my 2017 10.5" Pro was aging and I wanted something bigger and faster to play Ark Survival...and because the world told me the mini-LED iPad Pro wasn't coming until 2021. 😂
I picked an iPad Pro only a couple of weeks ago, with the expectation I'd get at least a year before buyer's remorse set in - this will sting if true...
Oh well.... why they make iPad Air an iPad Pro with nearly identical screen sizes? That doesn’t seem right.

I think iPad Air would not look like those rumours suggests, even if iPad Air has A14 instead of A14X.
I seriously doubt we’ll ever see Big Sur on iPads.I hope my iPad Pro 2018 Model wont be obsolete soon.
I wont buy a new iPad Pro , if macOS Big Sur comes to the iPad Pros and the 2018 model wont be supported.
Kind of worried that Apple's move earlier this year might be an indication for that. ("oh crap. 4GB isnt enough. all models need 6GB at least")
Also: Lets be honest. The iPad Pro doesnt live up to its name. We are still waiting for the "Pro" experience.
